Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #282 - A Friday Whirlwind in the Big Smoke! 🩰💖
Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer, Emma, and guess what? I'm back in London! Yep, I swapped the rolling Derbyshire hills for the bustling city streets this week, and you know what? It's been a whirlwind of pink-tinted adventures.
This week, I travelled to London by train, always a fun way to start a trip, with a steaming mug of tea in hand and my nose buried in a new novel. This time it was 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt. I know, a bit dark for a tutu-wearing princess, but the dark brooding vibe matched the grey skies and my desire to get lost in the story.
So, on the topic of getting lost… my London Friday began at Kings Cross Station, with a little pit stop at Platform 9 ¾ of course! This Harry Potter fan couldn’t resist a quick photo op, even though it’s just a shop doorway. But I can dream, can't I? I bet the sorting hat would put me in Gryffindor. I mean, come on, how much bravery does it take to wear pink in public? 😉
A Ballet Feast for the Senses
Right, where were we? Oh yes, my London adventures! So after a little bit of magic in the wizarding world, I headed for a pre-ballet-show tea with my dear friend Lucy. We met in the cosy alcove of a little tea room nestled near Covent Garden, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of London's street performers. It felt so lovely and elegant. We were discussing our shared passion for "The Sleeping Beauty," which is what we're both off to see tonight!
Speaking of ballet, you’re all going to laugh. While in London I managed to snag an interview with the head of the Royal Opera House Ballet School! Imagine my delight - I get to delve into the world of ballet, meet talented dancers, and chat all things tutus! This is what dreams are made of, darling.
A Fashion Spree on Oxford Street
Later, the evening light was falling as we explored Oxford Street, a veritable playground for the fashionably inclined. It's one thing to love fashion, but seeing all the incredible designs, fabrics and styles on show here… it’s a true feast for the eyes.
Naturally, a girl can't visit London without picking up some treasures! You already know how I feel about all things pink, and the shop windows were full of gorgeous pink shades this time of year, all shimmery, and sparkly for the New Year. I landed a magnificent fluffy pink beret to add a little French flair to my outfits.
And who could say no to a new pair of pink ballet flats? They are a classic, but this time I splurged on a pair with delicate floral embroidery. I already know I'm going to adore them with my floral dress for next week's ballet class.
A Night of Glamour at the Royal Opera House
Finally, we arrived at the Royal Opera House, just in time to witness a breathtaking pre-show performance by the ballet company. My jaw literally dropped – such talent, such elegance! I felt myself being pulled into the performance, the emotions swirling around me, and then suddenly, the curtains rose…
The Sleeping Beauty is one of my absolute favourites, and it felt so good to let myself be transported by the beauty of the choreography and the stunning costumes. The whole evening was simply magical. And, the best part? The other dancers wore tutus! My dream is coming true, one pink tulle skirt at a time, and seeing so many tutus in the audience just warmed my heart. It feels like we’re a little ballet community united by our shared passion for the art form.
Taking Inspiration Back to Derbyshire
That night, as the train took me back home to Derbyshire, I was buzzing. This week was packed with joy, inspiration, and a dash of pure ballet magic. I’m already planning my next London visit. There are always new places to discover, new shows to see, new ballet classes to attend. I feel that I truly am on a journey to get the whole world wearing pink tutus! And what’s a better way to spread that joy than through ballet, a performance art full of beauty, grace and stories that stay with you?
I'll be back with more London adventures next week. Until then, keep on twirling, dreaming, and believing in the magic of a pink tutu. 💖
