Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #317 - A Tutu-tiful Friday in the Big Smoke!
Hello my darling Tutu Tribe! It's Friday again, and you know what that means! A brand new Pink Tutu Blog London post is ready to whisk you away to the heart of London town. I'm absolutely buzzing after an absolutely incredible trip. You know me, I'm always planning, always dreaming of my next adventure and this time, my destination was none other than the sprawling, historic, exciting, fashion-forward, theatre-filled capital of London!
I travelled down on the train from Derbyshire, feeling as light as a feather in my latest ballet-inspired ensemble. The train journey is my favourite part – I feel like I’m entering a different world, full of possibility. Plus, with the new high speed lines, it's really not a long trip at all. This week, I was rocking my favourite bubblegum pink tutu paired with a black, polka-dotted, Peter Pan collar blouse, my trusty leather jacket, and a pair of sparkling ankle boots that twirled with every step I took. And of course, I had my trusty, oh-so-chic, blush-pink travel bag overflowing with tulle and glitter. 😉
Landing in London felt magical. There’s a certain energy that buzzes in the air, a spirit that you can just feel. My plan? Well, let's just say this: a whole Friday filled to the brim with all things tutu-tastic and London-lovely!
Morning in Mayfair: My first stop had to be Mayfair – London's poshest district, brimming with luxury and charm. You’ll find beautiful boutiques nestled between grand Georgian buildings and I have to admit, a few designer shoes went into my suitcase that morning! There’s nothing quite like indulging in some serious retail therapy, and you can just feel the glamour in the air. I just love the way they present the fashion here, all so chic and sophisticated. I even bought a gorgeous pale pink knitted cardigan, because you know me - I am all about finding the perfect shade of pink.
Ballet Brunch at Fortnum & Mason: No trip to London is complete without a visit to the iconic Fortnum & Mason. It’s a food lover’s paradise, full of delightful treats and an amazing ambience. I just couldn’t resist stopping for a lovely ballet-themed brunch - a delightful array of delicate finger sandwiches, buttery croissants, a sprinkle of perfectly ripe berries, and, of course, a pink grapefruit and elderflower mimosa. The atmosphere was buzzing with elegance, making for a truly magical experience.
West End Wonderland: Afternoon found me venturing into the theatre district. The West End - ah, what a haven for theatre enthusiasts! There's a palpable excitement here. People are just brimming with anticipation for a great show, their faces alight with excitement. On my trip, I got to catch "Wicked." This show was simply stunning. The musical numbers were electrifying, and I’m still humming the catchy tunes weeks later! But beyond the show itself, I just loved the energy of the theatre, all the glitz and glamour of the pre-show, the hush of anticipation in the auditorium... it’s pure magic. I was practically dancing in my seat with excitement, though I had to keep the pirouettes for the dance floor. 😜
Sunset Stroll through Hyde Park: As the evening descended, I found myself strolling through the breathtaking Hyde Park. I love the peaceful contrast it offers to the hustle and bustle of the city. The golden light streaming through the leaves, the chirping of birds, the soft murmur of conversations and the occasional joyful bark of a playful dog all blended into the most soothing background soundtrack. And honestly, just meandering around and soaking it all in while the sun dipped low, leaving the sky ablaze with colours, was truly rejuvenating.
Tutu Night in Covent Garden: Of course, my evening had to be concluded with a fabulous tutu-inspired experience. I headed down to the Covent Garden district, known for its quirky and lively vibe. It was absolutely bustling! This place is an absolute kaleidoscope of performances and arts and crafts and, of course, endless photo opportunities for a fashionista on the go. I picked up some fabulously sparkly tutus from one of the stalls – I’ll definitely be featuring them in a future post, so stay tuned!
Dinner & Dance with Friends: And because no night out in London is complete without great food and fabulous friends, I met up with some lovely local dancers for dinner and drinks. We caught up, chatted about everything under the sun, and had a thoroughly splendid evening. It’s the kind of thing that really makes London feel like a second home.
As I made my way back to the station, ready to hop back on the train back to Derbyshire, my heart was overflowing with joy and appreciation. It was a day filled with tutus, theatres, pink grapefruit cocktails, fashion finds, and fantastic friends. London really does have a magical aura about it. I’m already planning my next trip!
My Favourite Find: I am SO excited about my latest ballet-inspired purchase – a stunning pair of custom-made pointe shoes that have my name embroidered in pearl-white sequins on the strap. Talk about the ultimate accessory! You can find them at "The Pointe Shop" in Mayfair – they've become my go-to for all things ballet-wear.

P.S.:
On September 27th, 2002, London was buzzing with the excitement of the upcoming Fashion Week. A number of fashion events were taking place, but I was focused on enjoying the city in my own special tutu-fied way! This post is not meant to be historical, but rather a personal reflection on my magical day in London! I'm not a history blogger (though perhaps I should add some more context in future posts), I am just a tutu-wearing, fashion-loving blogger here to share my London adventure! 😊
