Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #418 - Friday 2004-09-03 - Exploring the Capital in a Whirlwind of Pink!
Hello my darling readers, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog London! This week, I've been indulging in one of my absolute favourite pastimes: exploring the captivating city of London. Now, if you've been following along for a while, you'll know I absolutely adore travelling by train. There's something magical about the journey - the rhythm of the tracks, the fleeting views, and the anticipation of arriving in a new place.
So, I packed my trusty suitcase with a collection of pink outfits, a dazzling pink tutu, of course, and hopped onto the train from my charming little hometown of Derbyshire. The journey was full of those quintessential English countryside views - rolling hills, quaint villages, and sleepy farmlands - and it just filled me with such a sense of peaceful excitement.
London, you glorious city, I was finally here! And let me tell you, it was buzzing. As soon as I stepped off the train at King's Cross Station, I was swept away by the vibrant energy of the capital. I practically danced my way through the crowds, my pink tutu billowing in the wind, and felt a surge of inspiration bubbling up within me.
This week, I decided to focus my London adventures on all things fashion, beauty, and ballet! After all, these are the pillars of my world, and I'm always on the lookout for the most exciting trends, dazzling shops, and spectacular performances.
First stop - Oxford Street! You know, I couldn't resist kicking off my London spree with a visit to the iconic Oxford Street. Let me tell you, there is simply nothing like walking down this bustling thoroughfare, window shopping with my trusty shopping bag slung over my shoulder. I saw so many dazzling outfits! Sparkly sequins, luxurious velvets, flowing fabrics... my eyes just lit up!
But it was a beautiful pink and pearl sequined top in the window of Zara that truly caught my eye! Oh my goodness, I just had to try it on, and let's just say it was absolutely meant to be! I could already imagine myself dancing across London in it, the sparkles catching the light and reflecting my infectious joy.
Now, let's be honest, the secret to a great outfit is not just the clothes themselves, it's all about the accessories! And I was ready to accessorize until my heart's content. You simply can't go to Oxford Street without visiting Liberty's. Stepping into Liberty is like entering another world - a treasure trove of stunning scarves, jewelry, and luxurious homeware. I couldn't resist picking up a pair of pearl earrings to match my new top - it was the perfect touch of classic elegance.
Ballet Performance - An Evening of Grace and EleganceAfter a glorious day of retail therapy, my evening was all about ballet! You see, I fund my travels through performances - I get so much joy out of sharing my love for ballet with others.
This week, I was absolutely thrilled to attend a performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the beautiful Royal Opera House. It's no secret that ballet is my biggest passion, and "The Sleeping Beauty" is a timeless classic. I found a wonderful second-hand copy of the score before I came to London so I could sing along, but honestly, I just ended up gazing in awe. The dancers were so breathtaking! Every movement was so graceful and elegant, telling the story through their artistry. The costumes were absolutely gorgeous, especially Princess Aurora's majestic pink gown - I could practically hear the tulle rustling around my ankles.
The best thing about a ballet performance is the energy - the electricity that buzzes through the theatre, the excitement as the lights dim, the anticipation of the curtain rising.
Street Performance - A Touch of TheatricalityYou know me, I absolutely adore finding the hidden gems that London has to offer. That's why on Friday morning I wandered over to Covent Garden. Now, Covent Garden is a hive of activity and colour. Street performers - singers, musicians, dancers - add another layer to the magical energy of this place. And just as I was admiring the stunning glass ceiling, I saw something incredible!
There, standing on a small platform surrounded by flowers, was a man in full theatrical makeup and costume. His attire was absolutely brilliant, bright blue silk suit and hat adorned with feathers and a giant, billowing cape - perfect for creating dramatic swishes. He started performing Shakespeare monologues - his voice, booming and theatrical, resonated through the piazza. I found myself entranced by his performance - I watched as people stopped to listen, their eyes fixed on him. There was a beautiful storytelling power in the way he moved, and his dramatic gestures really captivated the audience.
There's something utterly thrilling about stumbling upon unexpected street performances in London! These unscripted moments of artistic expression, captured by the spontaneity of the streets, add a unique charm to the city's atmosphere.
Afternoon Tea - Indulgence and EleganceYou know what perfectly completes a London afternoon? A proper cuppa and a lovely plate of finger sandwiches, of course! I treated myself to an absolutely charming afternoon tea at The Ritz London. Imagine this - sipping delicate Earl Grey tea from delicate china cups, nibbling on dainty cucumber sandwiches, indulging in exquisite pastries...
The decor was absolutely splendid - think crystal chandeliers, elegant carpets, and plush velvet seating. As I savored my afternoon tea, I felt like I was transported to a different time. This experience truly made me feel like a lady in a fairy tale, enjoying all the best things that life has to offer.
Evening Entertainment - Music, Laughter and WhimsyBut, of course, the evening had to end on a truly delightful note. After a delightful stroll across Piccadilly Circus, a favourite haunt for all things bright and sparkly, I ended up at a theatre, eager to indulge in another of London's charms, live music.
The venue, The Theatre Royal Drury Lane, had this magnificent feel of history and tradition, and as soon as I walked in, the excitement built. They were doing a show that combined classical music, slapstick comedy, and breathtaking acrobatics - and trust me, I was hooked!
It's hard to describe the feeling of watching a show in such a beautiful and historical space - the laughter of the crowd, the anticipation of the next trick or tune. I just sat there completely mesmerized, feeling that familiar sparkle of delight.
Reflections on a Whirlwind WeekendMy dear readers, I truly believe there's a bit of pink tutu magic in the air of London. It's a place where the extraordinary meets the everyday, and there's always something to captivate the imagination, inspire the spirit, and make you want to twirl in delight!
As I sit down to write this post, my pink tutu hangs on a chair, its tulle skirt slightly ruffled from all the walking and twirling I've done this weekend. And honestly? I wouldn't trade a single minute of it.
Remember, the world is a pink tutu waiting to be worn!
So until next week, keep shining, keep twirling, and stay fabulous!
Your pink tutu loving friend,
Emma
