Pink Tutu Blog London: #420 - A Whirlwind Friday in London!

Hello, darlings! Emma here, back with another London escapade, and trust me, it's been a whirlwind of a Friday! I just had to dash off to London to take in all that this amazing city offers. The train journey, a soothing mix of swaying carriage and countryside views, is a joy all on its own. This week I'm sporting a shimmering pink tulle tutu that has every single carriage mesmerized, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu blog without a touch of magic!

Train to London: A Pink Tutu’s First Stop

As I board the train from Derbyshire, the carriage almost bursts with excitement, it feels as though my tutu itself could do the splits! My fellow passengers are in awe and it gives me an idea - perhaps I could give some train passengers tutu lessons to get the weekend started right! It’s truly lovely how this vibrant tutu brings a smile to every face. I hope I'm spreading the pink tutu love all over the place, making the world a more fabulous place, one dance step at a time!

Exploring London, Tutu in Tow!

Landing in London, I’m off on a tutu-tastic adventure! I couldn't be more thrilled to be in the city! There’s something about this city’s vibrant energy, its mix of classic elegance and playful chic that just speaks to my fashion soul.

First Stop: The Royal Ballet, of course!

Today's main event was, you guessed it, a stunning Royal Ballet performance! The Royal Opera House itself is a breathtaking example of classic grandeur - ornate architecture, gilded ceilings, and that unmistakable air of anticipation as the lights dim before the curtain rises. Today's performance was something truly special, the sheer athleticism, grace and artistry of the dancers just took my breath away!

The show started with an invigorating performance of The Rite of Spring - the story of sacrifice and a chosen young girl's fate. Every movement was infused with such primal energy! Seeing it live is a whole other level of appreciation, those quick shifts from raw emotion to moments of lyrical grace, I've got to practice this routine, oh I’ll have my tutu dancing along in a whirl soon! I’ve jotted down my notes and will be working on it next week’s class!

Then there was a magnificent piece called Onegin, based on Alexander Pushkin’s novel of the same name! This one truly tugged at my heartstrings – love, heartbreak, passion. The way the story unfolded, you could practically taste the bittersweet feelings that poured from the dancers’ movements! I love how ballet can truly captivate your soul, leaving you feeling both uplifted and melancholic. I could practically hear the waltzing music in my head!

It wasn't just the ballets themselves that impressed me. There was this amazing backstage exhibition about the costuming and set design of some iconic ballets – costumes shimmering in sequins and feather, an entire section on pointe shoes with detailed explanations! Talk about tutu inspiration! And the costumes! I mean, who knew how many sequins and feather boas are needed for one ballet! And all that work and thought that goes into those dazzling tutus, it made me really appreciate the craftsmanship behind this wonderful world. I love the delicate fabrics, the vibrant colors and of course, all that sparkle and shimmer, you wouldn't know I was on my own way to finding that perfect little black dress, a ballerina needs variety after all.

Retail Therapy Time - Because a tutu girl never goes out without a shopping trip!

I know what you're thinking: “Emma, your wardrobe's full of tutus!" And you’re right! However, one can never have too many. The right outfit completes the performance and the perfect little black dress completes my look! And when a ballet girl needs to replenish her wardrobe, the best place to be is London's bustling streets! It’s a a world of fashion - a truly inspiring blend of vintage flair, modern elegance and all sorts of stylish delights!

My first stop is a vintage boutique with stunning garments, beautiful scarves, and bags in all shapes and sizes. A quick browse later, and I've snagged a fantastic vintage brooch with a charming floral motif! It’ll make the perfect touch on my new little black dress I’ll find next. And while I was browsing I found a few antique brooches that’ll make fabulous decorations in my pink tutu studio - for tutu magic needs just the right feel you see! I'm now a certified vintage brooch aficionado!

Next, I'm exploring London’s labyrinth of fashion boutiques, searching for that little black dress – an indispensable staple in any ballerina’s wardrobe. That perfect balance of elegance and effortless cool - finding that balance between dressy and day-to-day is no easy task! And in a London full of tempting delights, it takes some time.

A perfect black dress will need a shoe and bag to finish the outfit, and I must say London does not disappoint in its bag selection! But I don't go home with a handbag or pair of shoes. However, I discover a stunning little art deco box to keep my cherished jewelry - my own private ballerina treasure box.

A Pink Tutu London Dream – Theatre Magic!

The excitement doesn’t stop there, my London itinerary just keeps getting better. It’s a whirlwind of dance, culture and a dash of magic. Now, after an evening filled with stunning fashion and artistry, it’s time for a touch of theatre magic.

This evening's show is called "Miss Saigon", a gripping, heartwarming musical about love, loss, and the devastating legacy of war. The sheer emotion of the production captivated me from the opening notes, the musical numbers left me completely enthralled, and those heartfelt performances touched me deep down.

I truly felt the power of music and storytelling! This play reminds us all about the enduring power of human spirit. We need more productions like these – a brilliant story that resonated long after the curtain closed,

This truly makes me appreciate London – its thriving arts scene, its bustling heart and its relentless energy – this city’s pulse keeps me wanting to come back!

London’s Dance Beat is Calling!

London's already captured my heart and my pink tutu has already had an adventure! From ballet performances that leave you breathless to finding the perfect black dress - this Friday’s been a dream. I'm a tutu girl living my dream, bringing some ballet sparkle wherever I go. Now, it’s time to make my way back home – my pink tutu suitcase ready for a quick fashion makeover, to prep for next week’s blog, oh and to get ready for my ballet classes!

Until next week, remember, dear friends, let your hearts be free like a twirling ballerina. Keep spreading joy, wearing pink tutus, and let your love of life inspire everyone you meet! Until next time, you know where to find me - pinktutu.com

Stay twirling! Emma
