Pink Tutu Blog London: #586 Friday 2007-11-23 - Exploring London! 🩰
Hello, lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, back from a whirlwind trip to London! This week's adventure was all about exploring the vibrant heart of the city and I'm so excited to share all the delightful details with you!
I embarked on my journey from my quaint home in Derbyshire, with a big, bright pink suitcase overflowing with tulle and sequins (because, darling, one can never have too much pink!) and arrived in London just in time for a glorious Friday. It's a feeling that never gets old: the excitement of being in a bustling city, filled with so much promise and wonder! The train ride was utterly dreamy, as always. I love the gentle sway of the train, the constant changing scenery, and the opportunity to admire the quaint little villages we pass by, all while feeling so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do what I love: travel and spread the joy of pink!
Morning: Coffee and a Dash of Glitter! ☕️✨First order of business was a spot of coffee and a good ol' fashioned sugar rush at one of those cute little independent coffee shops nestled among the cobbled streets near Victoria Station. I've become quite the London coffee connoisseur! The best part of travelling by train is always the freedom to arrive in a new city whenever the train chooses. In this case, a nice late morning.
Wearing my signature pink tutu, naturally, paired with a chic black jacket and sparkly pink heels (always the perfect balance between whimsical and chic!), I wandered around, taking in all the sights, sounds, and scents of the city. It's amazing how London always manages to feel like a brand new adventure. Even after countless visits, it still has that charm and energy that never fails to capture my imagination!
I must confess, I felt a little envious seeing all the dapper businessmen in their tailored suits. Don't get me wrong, I love tutus, but there's something undeniably powerful about a well-fitting suit, especially a sharp one in a beautiful dark colour like navy blue or charcoal. It screams ambition, class and perhaps a bit of dapper mischief, but with the right outfit and the right confidence, that’s a power all my own!
A Touch of Theatre and the Royal Ballet 🩰After my morning coffee, it was off to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, a true London institution. Oh, the magic that permeates this historic theatre! It was the home to the first performance of The Nutcracker in the UK and I always make it a point to visit when in London. This time, it wasn’t the Nutcracker that drew me in, but a preview performance of Cinderella - it was glorious. And to top it off, they’re doing the shoe and slipper in full-blown pink sequins! It was almost as good as a pair of shoes myself! And just when I thought the evening could get no better, I realised there was a performance of the Royal Ballet later in the day! You know me, never say no to a ballet, especially if it's by the world-renowned Royal Ballet. I grabbed tickets for Swan Lake and felt that exhilarating sense of anticipation I always get before a performance. The sheer skill, precision and passion of those ballerinas, coupled with the captivating story, the stunning sets and costumes, left me feeling utterly spellbound! The way the dancers brought the story of Swan Lake to life through their every move was captivating. The audience, completely engrossed in the drama, erupted in applause at the end of the performance. It truly was a breathtaking experience and the perfect end to an already unforgettable day!
A Fashionable Adventure: Oxford Street & Shopping Spree 🛍️With the enchantment of the theatre still tingling, I embarked on a London shopping spree on Oxford Street! That’s my London ritual, as many know - after the performance, there’s no better feeling than browsing through boutiques, surrounded by glittering displays and sparkly trinkets! Oxford Street, with its bustling energy and endless choices, was the perfect spot for this much-needed shopping therapy. I snagged some cute new pink accessories and a chic sequined dress that would be perfect for my next ballet performance, which, luckily enough, will be in just two weeks! I even indulged in a delightful high tea at a quintessential English café. Scones with jam and cream, and a piping hot cup of Earl Grey tea—pure London bliss!
Evening: London Lights and The Glamour of London Theatre! ✨As twilight fell, I found myself marveling at the magnificent backdrop of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. London at night is simply breathtaking. I must admit, as pretty as Derbyshire can be, there’s something quite magical about being surrounded by iconic lights like those. And, it has to be said, there’s just no beating the glittering allure of London's theatre district! My feet danced across the cobbles as I made my way towards another show – this time, a vibrant and witty musical that made me laugh until I cried! You could see the magic in everyone's eyes, that sense of childlike wonder as we were transported to a world of music, song, and pure escapism. It's truly incredible how theatre can evoke such a range of emotions – and this particular musical was a perfect example. It was the most upbeat show I've ever seen - I laughed so hard I nearly cried with glee! The show ended on a high note, with a chorus of happy and enthusiastic clapping, a perfect way to end a magical day.
Reflection and Farewell 💕Now, here I am back in my hotel room, reflecting on another wonderful adventure in London. The city has an irresistible charm – I feel a sense of joy every time I come here. London seems to inspire a sense of excitement and wonder in everyone - not to mention fashion inspiration - which is perfect for a pink-tutu-clad ballerina like me. It was a truly remarkable day, and it is my hope that this blog will inspire you to plan a London adventure for yourselves!
I’m back in Derbyshire now, busy working on my ballet performances - the money I earn helps to fuel my adventures to the wonderful cities of the world. This time, my latest show is Romeo and Juliet. The ballerina is supposed to be innocent and graceful as Juliet, then when Tybalt kills Romeo, there's this dramatic and dramatic turn to the performance that really tests my range as a performer! My costume designer did an amazing job. It is a flowing and delicate white gown with layers and layers of soft pink tulle, with a sash around the waist to represent the red of the blood that’s soon to flow. My shoes are the iconic red of my signature red ballerina slippers, representing blood on the floor! So look forward to my next blog, where I shall talk you through my latest show, including how I managed to slip the blood into the tutu!
Until then, my dearest loves, let your inner sparkle shine! Remember, wear your pink tutu with pride and keep that London spirit alive! And don't forget, share your own London adventures with me!
With lots of love,
Emma
