Pink Tutu Blog London #831: Friday 2012-08-03 – A London Adventure in Pink!
Hello, darlings! It's Emma, back from a whirlwind trip to the Big Smoke!
Every Friday, you know I'm on the hunt for fabulous finds and pink-tastic inspiration. And this week, my journey took me to London. As always, my trusty tutu – a glorious hot pink confection with layers of tulle – was my faithful companion. Because let's face it, what better way to navigate the vibrant streets of London than in a whimsical flurry of pink?
I must say, I adore the journey itself! There's nothing quite like settling into a comfortable carriage, surrounded by charming landscapes flitting past the windows. My train ride from Derbyshire felt like stepping into a storybook. The quaint towns, emerald fields, and sun-dappled trees painted a picture of quintessential English beauty. My pink tutu stood out beautifully against the vibrant greenery – I always do manage to cause a stir, wouldn't you agree?
And then, London – a concrete jungle bursting with energy and life. My heart always skips a beat as I step onto the bustling platforms at Euston. The sheer vibrancy of the city washes over you like a wave, a delightful cacophony of sounds, sights, and smells.
Now, my lovelies, you know that my time in London is never complete without a sprinkle of ballet magic! My week's performances have been nothing short of incredible, leaving me buzzing with inspiration. Each night, I poured my heart into the beautiful stories told through dance. The energy of the audiences was electric, making me feel like I could truly fly. And don't even get me started on the beautiful costumes! Some of the ensembles had such stunning detailing and dramatic colour palettes.
Of course, I couldn't be in London without taking advantage of its fabulous fashion scene. The shopping was exquisite! From Oxford Street’s gleaming shops to the eclectic boutiques nestled in hidden alleyways, every corner promised a new discovery. It’s a dream come true for a girl with a penchant for all things pretty and pink! I snagged the most delightful pair of pink stilettos with delicate feather accents (and you know they'll be making a grand appearance in a future blog post!), a stunning sequined dress in the palest of pink, and a fluffy, blush-coloured beret for those Parisian chic days.
Friday morning began with a leisurely stroll through the streets, enjoying a piping hot cup of tea from a quaint cafe tucked away near Covent Garden. This lovely café was decorated in a sweet pastel pink – you know I couldn’t resist capturing a few pictures in my tutu, which practically became my mascot on this trip. After indulging in some of their most delectable cakes – I’m sure I’ll have my readers swooning with envy when I reveal the recipes later – I decided to take a journey into the past.
The Tower of London was quite a sight to behold! This majestic fortress with its rich history seemed to hum with the echoes of past glories and tales of daring escape attempts. My pink tutu provided a vibrant contrast against the austere stone walls – just a tiny splash of frivolity against the grandeur of history! I imagined myself as a daring princess, stepping through time and into the stories of long-forgotten kings and queens.
In the afternoon, I decided to embrace my inner child and immerse myself in the magic of The London Eye. This magnificent Ferris wheel offers breathtaking views of the city, stretching out before you like a vast, intricate tapestry. From above, I could see the Thames winding its way through the heart of the city, iconic buildings piercing the clouds, and bustling streets pulsing with energy. My tutu certainly added a touch of fairytale magic to the panoramic view!
As the sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and purple, I made my way towards the enchanting neighbourhood of Notting Hill. My trusty pink tutu twirled alongside me, feeling light as a feather in the evening air. I wandered through the charming streets, admiring the brightly painted houses and the quaint boutiques tucked away in unexpected corners. A charming bookshop – adorned with a sweet display of blooming pink roses – immediately caught my eye, of course! It’s no secret that I love to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea, and this charming little bookstore filled me with the delightful smell of paper, old and new.
In the evening, London came alive with its vibrant nightlife. I made my way to a delightful musical performance – I won’t divulge the details just yet, as it was so beautifully mysterious, a secret hidden jewel that I intend to share in a separate post, perhaps with some elegant illustrations and sketches of my favourite scenes!
Of course, my night wasn’t complete without a visit to the grand, majestic theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue – it simply wouldn't be a trip to London without experiencing a brilliant, spectacular show. I have to tell you, the theatre performance I saw was nothing short of magnificent, a breathtaking tapestry woven together by talented dancers, singers, and actors. I was enthralled by their passion, the vibrant costumes, and the beautiful story they spun on the stage! I won't say more, but let me tell you, my fellow tutu lovers, this was a show worthy of a standing ovation – truly breathtaking.
I found myself standing before a gigantic mirror as I made my way back to the hotel, reflecting on my London escapade. I couldn’t resist capturing this magical moment with a photograph. And there I was, against the twinkling city lights, surrounded by shimmering reflections of myself – a whimsical vision of pink tulle and sheer delight. My pink tutu – my constant companion, the perfect embodiment of my own love of colour and creativity – truly did add an extra dose of magic to the London experience!
Every moment of my trip – from exploring the historic grandeur of The Tower of London, to experiencing the vibrant shopping scene, to dancing and singing along to beautiful music under the city lights – has left an indelible mark on my heart.
Until next week, my lovelies, keep dreaming in pink and keep that pink tutu close to your heart!
Love, Emma x
