Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #851)

Friday 21st December, 2012

Hello darlings!

Emma here, and I'm so excited to be back with another blog post, this time all about my whirlwind trip to the big smoke - London! You might think December wouldn't be the best time for a jaunt, but this little ballerina just couldn't resist the sparkle of the season.

First things first, let's talk trains! A journey to London just isn't complete without a grand entrance by rail. I love the feeling of anticipation, the gentle sway of the carriage, and the chance to look out the window at the English countryside whipping by. Plus, it gives me a chance to pull out my very special pink travel tutu. This one's a bit more subdued, with shimmering silver embellishments, perfect for blending into the sophisticated London scene while still making a statement.

Speaking of statements, let's dive into the day! It all began with a magnificent ballet performance at the Royal Opera House. It was a magical rendition of Swan Lake, the costumes were divine (especially Odette's), and the choreography left me utterly mesmerised. This is what I love most about my life – connecting with audiences through dance, earning my travel funds and pursuing my passion all at the same time! I believe ballet has something for everyone, and after the show, I spotted several people in the audience sporting their own little ballet-inspired touches. Maybe it's time for me to bring out my Tutu for the People pamphlets, don't you think?

Afterward, my tummy was rumbling for a bit of London indulgence, so we ventured into the heart of Covent Garden for a delicious meal. The aromas alone were worth the trip, and I couldn’t resist the delectable cheese and onion tart – absolutely heavenly! London's culinary scene really knows how to satisfy a ballerina's appetite.

We continued on our merry way to a spot of afternoon tea. Now, tea time in London is truly a quintessential experience, and what better place to enjoy it than at a classic tea room in Kensington? I opted for the traditional afternoon tea, of course, complete with finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of delicate cakes. I've got to admit, I struggled to resist dipping my pinky into my cup. But the temptation was too strong! Let's just say the whole afternoon tea was an absolute delight.

My adventure wouldn't be complete without a bit of fashion indulgence, and what better place to shop than in the glorious Oxford Street? It's a haven for stylish souls and my purse cried with joy as I wandered from boutique to boutique. I managed to snag a beautiful pair of ballet-inspired flats - the perfect shoes for hopping between shows and London's captivating sights. I even found a lovely vintage broach for my collection, in the most delightful shade of pale pink. You could say it was the perfect afternoon.

Finally, no trip to London is complete without a peek at the festive illuminations in Trafalgar Square. The twinkling lights, the magnificent Christmas tree, the festive cheer... it really set the scene for a wonderful evening. The air was filled with laughter and music, and everyone was in the holiday spirit.

By this point, even I was ready to curl up and enjoy the last few hours of December 21st in London, reflecting on my amazing day. I always feel a bit more inspired after a trip to this vibrant city. It's bursting with history, creativity and glamour – everything a ballerina could wish for! London truly knows how to make a girl feel like a princess!

I'll leave you with a few of my favourite tips for making the most of a London day:

  • Always wear comfy shoes, especially if you plan to walk the city. You'll be glad you did when you’re rushing from theatre to tea rooms.
  • Take a moment to stop and appreciate the beautiful architecture. Every corner holds a story, from grand Victorian structures to charming hidden alleys.
  • Embark on a traditional red double-decker bus tour. London from the top is a whole other adventure, plus it gives you time to snap some Instagram-worthy pictures!
  • Embrace the unique culture. Be sure to have a go at speaking a few words of Cockney rhyming slang, it adds a delightful twist to any day.
  • Don't forget your trusty pink tutu! It's always a fun way to stand out from the crowd and embrace your unique style. Plus, who knows what opportunities might present themselves in a tutu-clad world.

Well, that's all for now, darlings! Until next Friday, stay twirling!

And as always, remember, don't be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina!

Lots of love,

Emma
