Pink Tutu Blog London - Post 852: Friday 2012-12-28: Exploring London's Festive Sparkle!

Hello my darling Tutu Tribe! It's Emma here, back from another magical adventure, this time right here in the heart of London! I hopped on the train from Derbyshire (a little pre-Christmas treat for myself, the train is so wonderfully nostalgic!) and arrived in London, just in time for a spot of Friday fun. As you all know, Friday's are for shopping, sightseeing, and of course, ballet, darling!

Now, I know I’m slightly biased towards tutus, but Christmas in London felt just slightly more festive, and just slightly more whimsical with all the lights twinkling around Trafalgar Square! It reminded me of the ballerinas in "The Nutcracker", those costumes always sparkled just as brightly!

*A Ballerina's Christmas Market *

You all know how I adore a good Christmas Market, and this year, London did not disappoint! I had the best time browsing through all the little stalls by the Thames, where you could find everything from hand-made jewellery to hot chocolate and gorgeous Christmas ornaments. It felt like a magical, twinkling, Christmas card. I bought some delicious hot cider, it was the perfect pick-me-up as I explored all the beautiful sights!

*Theatrical Treats *

No trip to London would be complete without a trip to the theatre! There's just such an energy and buzz about a London theatre - it's quite electric! I saw “Cats,” at the London Palladium this week. It was as breathtaking as I remembered! It was truly fascinating, seeing how they captured the movement of the cats with their incredible dance sequences, not to mention the fabulous costumes!

I must say, the London Palladium had me dancing out of there – they truly do put on an incredible show! They are, after all, world famous! The energy, the music, the spectacle - it's truly a must-see for any ballerina. Of course, it's also an absolute must for anyone who appreciates performance, dance, and a whole lotta sparkle! If you go, look out for the costume changes – they are truly spectacular. Oh and those costumes so remind me of the flawless and detailed costumes of the Russian Ballet! It was a perfect celebration of the festive season - everything was just so beautiful!

*A Dash of Pink *

I do love how London embraces the pink aesthetic. I just know all you pink tutu lovers are with me on this one! The colour was everywhere in the Christmas decorations, and of course, no Christmas market would be complete without a hot pink reindeer!

But darling, you can't have a London experience without visiting the classic landmarks - and believe me, they looked absolutely stunning under the festive glow of the Christmas lights! I’m so glad I visited Tower Bridge this year - I felt as if I was stepping out of a movie! The views of London from Tower Bridge are incredible.

*Pink Tutu Adventures *

I’m still in London and I'm thinking about how to do another Tutu Tour here! It would be such fun to have all of you lovely ladies join me. We could wander around the markets, have tea, and of course, stop by Harrods. They have some of the most fantastic ballet and dance wear available in London. If you’re looking for the most extravagant costume or accessories to complete your look, Harrods is a must.

It is really inspiring to see all the different ballet shops and stores scattered around London! I often find the most wonderful accessories to complete my looks, especially during the festive season! Just the other day I found a stunning headband from a local artisan shop that matched my ballet shoes perfectly! I can’t wait to rock this look for my next show.

London Inspiration

London is just brimming with creative inspiration! This year's Christmas season was no different! The street decorations are a truly amazing blend of modern and traditional style - the artists use a mixture of both traditional Victorian motifs, and the most vibrant modern designs. It’s something truly special!

London is a great place for inspiration when it comes to ballet, darling. I truly feel like the energy here pushes me to try new things, whether it’s a new style of dance, a new type of movement, or just simply a new way of wearing my ballet shoes! The opportunities here are limitless. I always feel so inspired to take my pink tutu further and push my own boundaries!

London has something special, darling. The Christmas lights sparkled as beautifully as any ballet costumes, and the city truly felt like a place where magic happens. You can truly see it in every detail, every twinkling light, and every artistic display in London.
*Time to Reflect *

And as we approach the New Year, I feel a need to reflect and be grateful for all the opportunities I've had this year. It’s been an incredibly busy year, with a schedule full of performance, classes, and travel - and it was all made possible because of you, my gorgeous Tutu Tribe!

I have had a wonderful time on the ballet scene this year. I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share my love for ballet and travel with all of you. And with that, it’s time to sign off until next week!

Happy Dancing!

Emma
