Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 2013-11-29 - A Whirlwind of Pink in London!
Hello darlings! It's Friday again, which means it's time for another exciting Pink Tutu Blog London adventure! This week I've swapped the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the vibrant streets of London, arriving in style – on a train of course! It wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu trip without a little train journey, the rhythmic clatter of the wheels a sweet lullaby that gets my creative juices flowing.
This week's post is number 900 for Pink Tutu Blog London - can you believe it?! Nine hundred weeks of sharing my love for pink tutus, London's dazzling lights, and everything fabulous in between. To celebrate, I thought we'd delve into a day packed with London loveliness.
My mission: to explore the heart of the capital with a dash of pink tutu sparkle and discover hidden gems, while staying true to my love for fashion, theatre, and of course, the graceful twirl. So grab your favourite pink lipstick, put on your twirliest skirt, and get ready for a day of London magic!
First Stop: Covent GardenNo trip to London is complete without a visit to the iconic Covent Garden, a vibrant tapestry of street performers, exquisite boutiques, and a symphony of aromas wafting from tantalising cafes and restaurants.
The moment I stepped off the train, I felt a tingle of excitement – a delightful buzz in the air that promised a day full of colour and discovery. Covent Garden always welcomes me with open arms. It's like a whimsical dream come true. The street performers here never fail to enchant, from dazzling acrobats to musicians with melodies that touch your soul. A few pounds for their talent felt well spent, and it certainly put me in the mood for a bit of a shimmy and a shake myself.
With a twinkle in my eye, I ventured into the maze of charming shops and market stalls. There’s a magical kind of retail therapy that takes over when you’re in Covent Garden. Each boutique tells a different story, each one a delightful surprise.
Style Spotting: A Pink Tutu Love Affair
You can't ignore the captivating display of the London theatre world here – the grandeur of the Royal Opera House beckoned me closer, a beacon of artistry that is so much a part of my life. It's the most incredible thing to be a mere hop, skip and a jump away from all the magic.
Of course, my quest to spread the pink tutu love took over, leading me to a delightfully whimsical vintage store brimming with treasures. In a sea of forgotten glamour, I spotted a beautiful pale pink feather boa. The softest, most delicate thing, just waiting to be wrapped around a lucky ballerina’s neck. My eyes were sparkling, imagining how gorgeous it would look against a tulle pink tutu, shimmering under the stage lights. It was almost like it had been destined for me to find it – almost! A tiny part of me (a tiny, practical, almost voice of reason, haha!) had a slight moment of hesitation. I already had so many feather boas, but oh the irresistible appeal of finding just one more. Thankfully, practicality gave way to my love of fashion, and with a swish and a flourish, I twirled out of the shop with my newest treasure clutched close to my chest.
Lunch Time Delight: The Royal Opera House Cafe
Feeling peckish after my spree in the boutiques, I decided to enjoy lunch at the elegant Cafe at the Royal Opera House. With high ceilings and gleaming chandeliers, it felt like stepping into another era. And who better to eat a decadent lunch with than…me, dressed in my usual ballet outfit, tutu, stylish t-shirt and an even more stylish cardigan? It’s always a great idea to get a bit of culture in when in London and a lunch with the ballerinas in this chic space was a delightful experience. We shared the delicious salmon sandwiches, sipped on perfectly chilled herbal tea and discussed the next ballet we'd see - an enchanting spectacle that was already making my toes tap in anticipation. The cafe's charm is a reminder that even in a bustling city, elegance and refined experiences abound, waiting to be discovered.
From Fashion to Ballet: An Evening at the London Coliseum
After my afternoon adventure, I wanted to be even closer to the pulse of London, to the rhythm of its artistic heartbeat. I ventured to the London Coliseum, home to the magnificent English National Opera and a venue I adore. Its elegant facade drew me in, whispering promises of theatrical grandeur. My Friday afternoon turned into a magical ballet performance, my love for ballet truly a source of endless fascination for me.
There's nothing more magical than watching ballerinas on stage, their graceful movements like stories unfolding in front of you. The exquisite music of the London Coliseum transported me to another realm, where every pirouette, every plié felt like an intricate brushstroke in a masterpiece. The performers on stage were nothing short of mesmerizing. Their passion ignited my own and as the applause rose around me, I was lost in a wave of pure exhilaration. The sheer power and beauty of ballet leaves me feeling speechless every time. It’s not just the movement and elegance but also the passion and discipline required to achieve such graceful artistry. Each pirouette, every jump feels like a whisper of human triumph and beauty, the perfect antidote to the world’s noise and worries.
