Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #1130 - London Calling! 🩰
Hey there, Tutu Lovers! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another exciting blog post. This week, I'm taking you on a whirlwind journey to the heart of London, the city that never sleeps, the city that steals your heart and leaves you wanting more. This Friday, I'm swirling through the streets of this fabulous metropolis, and I'm ready to share every gorgeous, glitzy detail with you!
As a Derbyshire girl at heart, I adore the train journey to London. It's a magical escape, a chance to relax, write my blog post and soak up the English countryside, before reaching the bright lights and hustle bustle of London. I feel the excitement bubbling up inside me as the train rolls into London Euston, I feel a surge of energy and my toes start to tap – it’s going to be a good day.
This week, London is pulsating with life! I landed in the heart of the West End, ready to absorb all the city had to offer.
My first stop, after collecting my bag from the station storage and grabbing a quick bite to eat was The Royal Opera House. Yes, you heard that right! London's biggest and most prestigious opera and ballet company is calling to me. Tonight, they're putting on a special performance of The Sleeping Beauty, my all-time favourite ballet. Can you imagine, my tutu and I are about to experience the magic of Tchaikovsky's score and Marius Petipa's intricate choreography, up close and personal. I’m going to be seeing some of the world's best dancers, their skills and artistry captivating, mesmerising – pure balletic bliss.
With the excitement of the ballet burning in my heart, I headed over to Harrods. A shopper’s paradise, it's one of London's biggest department stores, overflowing with exquisite fashion, from head-to-toe and even to the tip of your toes! This afternoon, Harrods is all about the latest ballet-inspired shoes, sparkly skirts and dazzling jewellery, perfectly designed to make any ballerina's heart skip a beat. Think twirling and dancing all night long and you can feel that sparkling, elegant touch in every design here! I'm dreaming of a soft pink tutu for tonight's performance, and maybe some sparkling accessories to top it off for the perfect evening out.
From the world of high-end fashion to the world of streetwear, I made my way to Brick Lane for some shopping that won't break the bank. A vibrant and quirky street, it hosts vintage shops, independent boutiques and a huge variety of street food. If you're after that unique, one-of-a-kind piece, Brick Lane is the place to be. Think colourful, bold, and trendy, a place where fashion expresses individuality. I'm on the lookout for a bright pink bag that will make a statement when I take it to the ballot later.
My London adventure wasn't all about shopping and ballet. There’s more than enough beauty and culture to explore. For example, on my walk back to the Royal Opera House for tonight's performance, I'm taking in the beautiful streets. This time, my destination was Covent Garden. It's London's historic fruit and vegetable market and today, it is bustling with life. The energy of the people selling their fresh produce, the smells and sights all draw you into this bustling and historic London hub. For a perfect, classic British snack between shopping excursions, I treated myself to an Apple Pie and a Cup of Tea! So perfect! I love it when London just knows exactly what I want.
The Covent Garden market square offers live music, street entertainment, art stalls, and delicious restaurants. You can experience a whirlwind of London's vibrant culture all in one space! It's the perfect spot for an Instagram selfie! Oh, and Covent Garden is a great spot to get that last-minute outfit for tonight's performance – or to discover the perfect new hair accessory for my ballet hairstyle.
Time is marching on, and I'm getting ready for the performance at the Royal Opera House. My heart's pounding with anticipation! A London theatre show is so much more than entertainment – it's a true spectacle, full of magic and emotion. I adore being immersed in a performance that takes you to another time and another world. As a ballet enthusiast, the London ballet scene is nothing short of brilliant. The artistry, the technique, the stories the dancers tell through their movement are breathtaking. It’s so exciting to see them on stage.
London, with its theatre heritage, has got so much to offer. There is an array of performances running through London tonight, from big musical productions, like Hamilton and Wicked, to classic West End theatres featuring modern and experimental plays at smaller theatres like the Bush Theatre or the Donmar Warehouse, each a different window into the world of London Theatre. I’m definitely planning a return trip so I can see more theatre performances, or maybe I’ll catch an indie ballet show or take a dance class while I’m here too. After all, it’s never too late to perfect your pirouettes and grand jetes.
To finish my night, there’s only one place I could be: The Dorchester Hotel. One of the most glamorous hotels in London. This afternoon, it’s the setting for the perfect high tea. If you’re looking for a classic and opulent London experience, The Dorchester Hotel is the perfect stop. The Afternoon Tea is a splendid affair, served with champagne in a sun-drenched lobby or even outside on the terrace. Today, it’s all about tiny sandwiches and delicious pastries, served on tiered plates and paired with fresh scones and clotted cream in the grand tradition. This is London glamour at it’s best.
London’s beautiful restaurants don’t disappoint either. My friend, Beth, and I went for a delicious meal at Dishoom, a fantastic restaurant which celebrates the streets of Bombay with delicious, spiced Indian cuisine in a warm and inviting setting inspired by a 1950s Bombay coffee shop or ‘Irani’ cafe.
So there you have it, my adventures in London. This city is filled with charm, elegance and cultural gems. A real city of contrast which never fails to enchant and inspire me. It never ceases to amaze me. You never know what you might stumble across, but always be sure to look around, be open to adventure and capture it all with your camera. The perfect pose, of course, is in a pink tutu!
