Pink Tutu Blog London: #1314 - A Friday Whirlwind in the Capital! 🩰
Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, back from another fabulous trip to London! It’s Friday, which means it's time for your weekly dose of pink tutu magic and all the delights London has to offer.
This week, I felt a particular pull towards the city, as if the vibrant energy of the capital was beckoning me back with open arms. After all, London is the ultimate stage for a pink tutu-wearing ballerina, wouldn’t you agree?
And you know what else? My travels are all thanks to my love for dance! I’m thrilled to say I recently snagged a fantastic performance opportunity in the heart of Derby, a little jaunt from my Derbyshire home, that's going to be funding this London adventure. That’s right, I'm living my dream! Performing and exploring! And as a true ballerina at heart, you can bet I wore a different pink tutu for every performance, of course! 🩰
So, without further ado, let’s step aboard the train and journey into my London escapades.
A Train Journey Straight into Pink Tutu Wonderland
The train journey was a symphony of calm in itself. The rhythmic clicking of the wheels on the tracks always manages to lull me into a blissful state, which I call ‘pink tutu trance’ – a kind of meditative reverie where the world melts away, and all I see is a flurry of pink twirls and joyous pirouettes!
While the train sped through the English countryside, my mind danced with images of all the magical places London would offer me: bustling theatre districts, dazzling shops showcasing the latest fashion trends, and even perhaps, a hidden tea room serving up a pink tea with a sprinkle of pink rose petals. Oh, how I love daydreaming!
Stepping onto the Stage of London's Streets
London never disappoints! As I stepped off the train, my heart swelled with excitement. There was just so much to discover and so much pink to embrace!
Firstly, the streets of London felt like an endless runway. I saw fashion trends that were bold and vibrant, classic and elegant, quirky and playful - but it was a playful polka dot dress paired with an emerald green fedora I really loved. My senses tingled with excitement - just imagine the possibilities for a perfect outfit for a pink tutu ballerina!
I wandered through Covent Garden, a hub of energy where street performers brought life to every corner. I couldn't help but get caught up in the joyous spirit, and my feet just had to move! I found myself twirling and swaying to the music, a ballerina on a London stage. I mean, who can resist a bit of impromptu ballet in a place like Covent Garden, right? 😉
The London Theatre Scene - A Dream for Every Tutu Ballerina!
One of my absolute favourite things to do in London is catch a show. London's theatre scene is a treasure trove of theatrical delights, and this Friday was no different. I had heard amazing things about "Les Misérables" and its legendary soundtrack, so I decided to go see it at the Sondheim Theatre.
Now, I must tell you, the performance was utterly magnificent! It was a dazzling display of storytelling through music and movement, and the entire cast brought such passion and talent to every role. Every tearjerking scene, every moment of triumph, it felt like I was transported to a whole new world.
After the show, I just had to have a glass of champagne and soak in the magic of the evening. The twinkling lights of the West End, the laughter echoing from nearby restaurants - London is truly a place for creating lasting memories.
Finding My Pink Tutu Soulmate at Liberty
You can never visit London without indulging in a little shopping spree! Now, I am a sucker for a good sale, especially if it includes a new pink tutu! My little secret: London’s Liberty department store is one of my go-to spots. The stunning building itself feels like stepping into a beautiful dream - think ornate architecture, delicate floral prints, and oh-so-charming window displays! It's just so delightfully elegant!
As I stepped inside, the aroma of flowers and the luxurious soft fabrics greeted me, filling my senses with an exhilarating joy! There's just something special about Liberty.
However, it wasn't the typical kind of tutu that I was on the hunt for. You see, my London tutu-dreams went beyond a classic ballerina look - I was envisioning something edgier and a little bolder for this adventure. Imagine my delight when I spotted a pale pink, feather-light tutu, layered with an iridescent silver gauze! It shimmered in the shop light and immediately drew me in, just as if it were calling me. It was a pink tutu with a rockstar edge - a true find!
It’s not every day you find the perfect tutu! With my newfound pink tutu soul-mate tucked under my arm, I strolled out of Liberty and on into the heart of London, feeling ready to conquer the city in style.
Afternoon Tea With a Dash of Pink Magic
No trip to London would be complete without a proper afternoon tea! I’d read about The Savoy hotel’s famous tea service and had been eager to try it for myself. Now, if you're like me and appreciate a good dose of luxurious indulgence, then you know that afternoon tea is truly a British classic.
As I sat at a perfectly set table, bathed in the warmth of natural light, I savored each moment of this quintessential British experience. The delicate finger sandwiches, the delectable scones with clotted cream, and the array of perfectly brewed tea blends all contributed to a truly decadent experience. But, of course, a classic afternoon tea with a pink tutu twist wouldn’t be complete without a few splashes of pink - and you’ll never guess where I found it…
The Savoy was a dream of an experience but I couldn’t resist searching for some pink to add a little flair to my afternoon. After exploring London's streets, I had stumbled upon a small, unassuming tea room that was filled with so much charming beauty - like something straight out of a storybook. Inside, nestled amongst vintage china and dainty pastries, was a rack of hand-painted pink teacups! Each one was so whimsical with detailed pink floral designs. Imagine the joy, sipping tea from a delicate, pink china cup! I purchased one and savoured a cup of lavender tea.
The Ballet Heart of London - Royal Opera House
My London adventure wasn't complete without a visit to one of my absolute favourite spots in the city, the iconic Royal Opera House. It is a temple to dance and theatre and embodies the timeless elegance and refinement of London's cultural heart. Even from the outside, it emanates a certain majesty and grace that’s both awe-inspiring and unforgettable.
While I didn’t catch a performance on this trip (that would require booking way in advance, I'm learning that ballet tickets are a bit like gold dust!) but just stepping inside felt magical. Just a whisper of the performances past still hangs in the air.
Of course, I couldn't resist striking a few poses, twirling under the glorious chandelier, feeling like I had become one with the history and the heritage of the Royal Opera House. It's the ultimate pilgrimage for a ballet dancer, right?
