Pink Tutu Blog London - Post #1406: Friday 2023-08-11 - A Tutu-tastic London Adventure! 🩰👑
Hey there, Tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, back from another exciting adventure, this time in the heart of London town! As you know, I love a good train journey (especially when it means I can wear my pink tutu with pride) and today's trip was no exception. It's always a little surreal, boarding a train from my little corner of Derbyshire and arriving in London, a city brimming with excitement, fashion, and – you guessed it – pink! Pink tutus, that is. 😉
My little pink tutu, named "Pip," and I are definitely a pair, inseparable on our adventures, and Pip was looking particularly radiant today with a delicate sprinkle of diamanté sequins, ready to twirl through the streets of London.
So, what was on the agenda for this Friday adventure? Well, you know me, it was a mix of the arts, some shopping for my tutu wardrobe, and a dash of London sightseeing, all while spreading the pink tutu gospel!
Morning Delights - Dance & Delight!
We started the day at the beautiful Royal Opera House, not just for the fabulous ballet performances they host (because, let's be honest, the tutus are a big draw!) but also because it's a treasure trove of beautiful shops and restaurants. I love to wander around the stalls filled with the latest in dancewear – think fluffy pink ballet skirts and sparkling headbands! It's the perfect excuse for a spot of shopping therapy before I head into a class or performance.
Shopping Splurge in Bloomsbury
Today, we needed to get to Bloomsbury, a beautiful neighbourhood that's home to some of the coolest independent shops and, naturally, a fabulous selection of boutiques bursting with pink. I had my eye on a particular vintage shop that I'd read about in a fashion magazine, hoping to find the perfect new tutu for a big show I'm doing in a couple of weeks. I knew it was tucked away in a charming cobblestone street, and there it was – a wonderland of floral fabrics and velvet trims.
Imagine my joy when I discovered a glorious vintage pink tulle tutu, so full and swirly that it could have belonged in a 1950s ballet. I can't wait to wear it on stage, swirling and leaping with every step, creating a burst of colour for the audience to enjoy! I can almost hear the applause.
London's Iconic Architecture and Culture
The sun was shining beautifully today, so it seemed like the perfect time for some classic London sights. The British Museum is an absolute must-see, filled with fascinating historical treasures from across the world. I always spend ages lost in the intricate carvings and paintings, feeling like I'm transported to different eras and cultures.
The National Gallery was our next stop. Of course, no visit to London would be complete without seeing these masterpieces. It's one thing to see pictures of Van Gogh’s sunflowers in a textbook, but it's entirely another to stand in awe before the original! It really makes you think about the talent and artistry of the painters and, more importantly, appreciate their dedication to the craft.
Tutu-licious London Evening
We decided to head over to Covent Garden for the evening, for a fantastic performance of 'The Nutcracker'. London is always abuzz with captivating shows, but for me, a ballet performance is truly a special event. Watching the dancers glide across the stage, so graceful and captivating, always sparks inspiration in me, making me want to get back to my own ballet class! And with Pip twirling proudly next to me, I was reminded that even in the most sophisticated venues, a touch of pink tutu can make any experience even more special.
After the show, we went for a bite at a cosy restaurant called "The Ballet Box." Everything about it was perfectly fitting for a ballet lover - there were even miniature ballerinas decorating the tables! I devoured a decadent dessert, filled with fluffy meringues and sweet fruit – just the thing to end a perfect day.
My London Fashion Tips - The Pink Tutu Style!
Now, I know what you might be thinking, “Emma, how do you make the tutu look chic in the midst of all this city sophistication?” Good question! It takes a little imagination, but it's certainly possible to wear your tutu with panache even when exploring London's trendy boutiques or glamorous museums!
The Key: Embrace the Contrast
My philosophy? Pair that gorgeous, frilly pink tutu with a little touch of city chic. Think tailored coats, bold statement shoes (I love a good pink loafer or a platform boot!), and classic accessories that play up the tutu’s sweetness. It's a winning combo that says, "I'm elegant and fabulous, and I know it!".
Tip: The Colourful Twist
For London, the colour palette for your pink tutu ensemble should be all about vibrant hues. Imagine pairing a blush-pink tutu with a rich emerald green bomber jacket or a cobalt blue blazer. Trust me, this vibrant combination screams sophistication, fun, and, most importantly, a touch of pink tutu magic.
