Pink Tutu Milan - #109: A Dreamy Day in Milan

Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in Milan, my current playground for pink tutu dreams! And what a week it has been! I feel like I've been waltzing through the streets of this magnificent city, twirling my way into new experiences and absorbing every ounce of beauty and inspiration. This week, we're talking sunshine, tutus, trams, and a smidge of history, because, let's be honest, who can resist a little culture in between shopping sprees?

Before we dive into all the fun, don't forget to hop over to www.pink-tutu.com to catch up on my other Milan escapades. You know how I love sharing all my adventures with you! It's Monday morning and my heart is already pounding with anticipation for this week's post. Let's just say, a little sunshine in Milan tends to bring out the best in everything - the shopping, the food, the architecture...and let’s not forget those dreamy pastel skies.

But back to where we left off - today is Wednesday, July 9th, 1997. And Milan is absolutely buzzing with summer vibes. Just the other day, I found myself enjoying a lovely, warm morning on a charming corner in the heart of Milan. I couldn't help but feel a bit like Cinderella at a ball, as I strolled down the cobblestone streets in a vibrant, electric pink tutu with delicate, ruffled layers, which swirled with every movement. Honestly, who needs a glass slipper when you have a tulle skirt that flows like a dream?

Speaking of dreams, you know how much I love ballet, and this week's post wouldn't be complete without sharing a little about my ballet experiences. Last night, I treated myself to a performance at the iconic Teatro alla Scala. I’m pretty sure this historic theater is considered to be the pinnacle of opera, ballet, and dramatic arts here in Milan. Oh, how my heart did sing! It was a truly magical night, and every note and every step brought a fresh wave of emotions washing over me.

My journey to the theatre wasn’t quite as glamorous as a scene from Swan Lake, however. I'm all for a good adventure and sometimes that involves squeezing into crowded trams (a bit more crammed than a typical tutu, you could say!). It was a delightful, vibrant, and slightly chaotic trip through the city, observing life unfold around me. But it was all worth it in the end. Imagine - an evening spent with the beautiful world of ballet, just for a little pink tutu-wearing ballerina!

After the ballet, I couldn't resist stopping at Ristorante Il Salotto for a delicious plate of gnocchi alla Sorrentina, which is essentially potato pasta smothered in a heavenly, sweet, tangy tomato sauce. It’s my favorite! I don’t think there's anything I love more in life than savouring amazing Italian food, especially while wearing my beloved pink tutu.

And then came the afternoon! A delightful mix of shopping, strolling, and more importantly, appreciating Milan’s remarkable architecture. There's nothing quite like taking in a classic cathedral like the Duomo di Milano, right? It’s a breathtaking structure, all marble and spires reaching up to the heavens. I even caught myself picturing graceful ballerinas dancing among the clouds around those spires - talk about a theatrical setting for a dance performance!

Speaking of dance, did I mention my secret dance mission? Let's just say I've been working on getting everyone in Milan (and the rest of the world) into the whole "pink tutu" craze! It's my lifelong ambition, and every opportunity to promote it is met with utter joy. This week I've had a delightful encounter with a group of lovely children who I've convinced (I think!?) that tutus aren't just for dancers anymore! The joy and surprise in their eyes when they see themselves wearing these fluffy creations are more than enough reward. Now I’m starting to imagine them taking to the streets of Milan, twirling in their bright pink tutus!

Remember, life is too short for ordinary clothing! And you can tell by the energy in this city that everyone loves to dress up! Every street corner here in Milan offers something truly unique, whether it’s an exciting new trend in a local shop or a chance to admire the incredible street style around me. Sometimes you never know what exciting new fashion finds you're going to find right on the street!

Of course, my obsession with fashion is a huge part of why I love to travel. But it's also my love for exploration and getting to know a place truly from the inside out. That's why I'm such a fan of using public transport in new cities, even in those moments when the journey itself requires a little extra patience (as those crammed tram experiences teach you!). To me, it's about savouring those "real-life" moments and getting a peek into everyday life for the locals.

Every time I step on a tram or a train, I imagine the story each individual around me could tell about their lives and their city. You never know who you might bump into or what inspiration you might encounter on your way to the ballet, or while exploring the local cafes for a delicious afternoon tea.

My life, I'm afraid, isn't all tutu twirls and trams, even if that's what I tend to focus on! For me, a healthy dose of reality helps fuel the dreamy side of life. And believe it or not, being a travelling pink tutu enthusiast also involves quite a bit of hard work. While it may look like pure joy and spontaneity, there's actually a whole lot of behind-the-scenes action, planning, and (more importantly) budgeting going on, and it definitely wouldn’t be possible without the beauty of ballet performances. It’s how I’ve managed to fund my incredible adventures, and even though it can be challenging, seeing so many happy faces makes every tiring moment worth it!

Now, here's a secret you can tell everyone! I’m also currently putting together an exclusive online shop that’s specifically for my followers - the pink tutu dreamers and the fashion enthusiasts! The plan is to offer limited-edition pieces of gorgeous clothing, from ballet-inspired creations to items with an elegant Italian touch, all while upholding those bright, colorful vibes you’ve come to expect from your favourite ballerina blogger! (Hint: Think pink! Lots of pink!). Stay tuned, I’ll be sharing more about the launch of this new exciting chapter very soon!

The sun is starting to set, and the warm evening breeze is carrying whispers of adventure for me. So for now, I’ll bid you farewell! Remember to hop on over to www.pink-tutu.com and catch up on all my exciting stories from Milan, or check out my other blogs for insights from cities around the world! I’ll be back with another tale soon, brimming with stories and filled with plenty of pink. Until then, ciao bella!
