Pink Tutu Milan - #115 - 20th August 1997

Ciao bella!

It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of my Pink Tutu Milan blog! This week has been a whirlwind of tutus, trams and tagliatelle. Milan, you're a dream come true!

Trams, Tutùs and Tremendous Shopping!

It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s Milan. The sun's a sizzling scorcher but luckily, my pink tutu (today’s is a stunning shade of "Bubblegum Blush") is the perfect way to keep cool! It's breezy and airy, but still a statement. Trust me, tutus are not just for ballerinas. I'm making them cool for everyone!

After a breakfast of freshly-baked cornetti (delicious!) at my little favourite cafe by the Duomo, I took a stroll down Via Montenapoleone. I don't know about you, but the whole "shopping therapy" thing definitely works for me! My mantra this week has been "tutu up, shop till you drop!"

And let me tell you, this street has it all: Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci... you name it, they've got it! While my pocket money isn't big enough for anything by these big brands, the window displays are absolute masterpieces. Just seeing these amazing designs gives me the creative spark I need to work on my own fashion ideas!

I did, however, snag a beautiful pink scarf - a "fuchsia fantasy" I'm calling it. Imagine, silk so soft, it practically melts in your hands! It's perfect to tie around my tutu, and just right for a little dash of extra colour!

Speaking of colour, did you see my latest online shopping haul? A whole box of pink shoes - every shade from "Cherry Blossom Pink" to "Rose Quartz" to "Sunset Blush". I'm literally obsessed with pink, you see. Pink, to me, is like sunshine for the soul! It's cheerful, playful, and incredibly chic.

And who better than a Pink Tutu-clad ballerina to make pink fashionable?

Dancing With the Stars

Later that evening, I was lucky enough to snag tickets to the Teatro alla Scala for a ballet performance of Swan Lake. Talk about glamorous! The theatre is stunning – grand chandeliers, plush red velvet seats, even the staff look impeccably stylish.

Watching Tchaikovsky's masterpiece in this beautiful setting was a dream come true. I spent the whole show picturing myself in a tutu, graceful and strong like the dancers onstage. You know I even wrote down a couple of killer moves to try at class back in Derbyshire!

It was a real feast for the eyes. But not only did it inspire me creatively, it made me think about how ballet really isn’t just about pretty steps. There’s real power and strength underneath all that grace. And what’s more powerful and beautiful than that? Definitely something to think about as I navigate the city of Milan!

Milan's Got Talent

And while I'm on the topic of amazing things happening here in Milan, did you know there are little pocket-sized parks sprinkled around the city? I stumbled upon one in the evening - all twinkly lights, gelato stalls, and children laughing. I think I fell in love with Milan in that moment. It’s full of life and laughter, and yet still carries this beautiful air of sophistication and art.

This is why I always post my Milan blogs on a Wednesday, so I can catch the "sparkle" that happens here.

A Farewell for Now...

Milan, you’ve charmed me once again. But you know what they say? "All good things must come to an end!" My ballet tour continues next week, taking me to Venice. Imagine! Think canals, gondolas, and a million more photo opportunities!

Speaking of photo opportunities, have you checked out my Pink Tutu Milan instagram page? I’ve been sharing all sorts of fun moments and pics from my adventures. Find me @PinkTutuMilan and let’s spread the pink love!

Till next Wednesday!

Yours in pink and tutus,

Emma

*PS. * If you're ever in Milan, make sure to take a stroll along the Naviglio Grande. It's the perfect place for an evening walk, with its pretty cobblestone streets, charming cafes, and atmospheric restaurants. And hey, who knows, you might even catch a street performance – a ballet, of course!

*PPS. * I’ve started a campaign on my website – “Make Every Day a Tutu Day.” Join me and get involved, send your pictures! You can get involved in my "tutu revolution" at www.pink-tutu.com!
