Pink Tutu Milan - Post #156: A Ballet Bonanza in the City of Fashion!

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu Princess, and I'm bursting with excitement to share another week's adventures in fabulous Milan, the fashion capital of the world! As you know, I'm a firm believer that a girl can never have too much pink or too many tutus, and Milan has been an absolute haven for both.

Today is Wednesday, June 3rd, 1998 - the perfect day for a blog post about all the beautiful things I've been soaking up this week. Buckle up, my loves, because we're about to dive into a world of dance, fashion, and pure joy!

Milan by Tram: A Pink Tutu Odyssey

This week has been all about exploring the city in true Pink Tutu style. One of my favourite things about Milan is its fantastic tram system. Honestly, it's a dream come true for a ballerina like me! You just hop on and whizz past beautiful buildings and cobblestone streets, the city buzzing around you like a melody. It’s the perfect way to get your bearings and soak in the atmosphere. And let's not forget, it's the most glamorous way to travel in a pink tutu.

On Monday, I rode the tram all the way to the Teatro alla Scala. Can you imagine, darling? The Teatro alla Scala! This grand old theatre is famous throughout the world for its opera and ballet performances. It was like stepping into a scene from a fairy tale - majestic, glittering, and so incredibly elegant. I just felt like a true princess, complete with my pink tutu, of course. I even caught a glimpse of a famous opera singer on my way in! I think it was Pavarotti himself, or perhaps it was Plácido Domingo. I'm not too sure, but I’m not letting myself believe it wasn’t! It felt that grand, anyway.

That night, I was treated to the most exquisite ballet performance. They had a production of Giselle, and it was just magical! The choreography was stunning, the costumes were gorgeous (especially those ethereal white tutus in the second act - sigh!), and the music…well, it just sent shivers down my spine. There was this one male dancer, with a beautiful leap and so much charisma, it made me practically swoon! My little Derbyshire heart is still fluttering, darling. It’s fair to say that, from that point on, my life in Milan has been even more dreamy.

Ballet Class, Ballet Street and a Dress You Wouldn't Believe!

I wouldn't be true to my Pink Tutu mantra if I didn't sneak in a ballet class this week! I found a fantastic studio right next to the Duomo, and let me tell you, it was quite a treat. It was just me, the beautiful ballerina instructor and three other lovely dancers - so cosy! We practiced all sorts of moves - pliés, pirouettes, jetés, oh my!

Afterwards, I felt utterly invigorated, like I could conquer the world in my pink tutu. That’s why I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around, exploring the city’s incredible architecture. Did you know that the Duomo has this incredible stained glass window that reflects light into the most incredible patterns, giving the impression that the cathedral is actually made of spun glass! The beauty of it almost took my breath away.

After that I went to Milan’s famous Quadrilatero della Moda, which I found to be every fashionista's paradise! And what’s a fashionista like me without my pink tutu, right?! As I ambled around the stylish streets, soaking up the chic atmosphere, I spotted a dress... my darlings, it was a dress made entirely out of silk roses, a colour as pink as my favourite tutu! Can you believe it? I must have gasped! I couldn’t possibly leave Milan without trying it on and it turned out to be my perfect new addition to my Pink Tutu wardrobe!

From Derbyshire to Milan: Finding the Magic

But even amidst all the Milanese grandeur, my heart yearns for my little Derbyshire home. The beautiful green rolling hills of my home county remind me how small we all are compared to the universe. Still, here in Milan, surrounded by beauty and glamour, I find myself more determined than ever to spread my Pink Tutu love.

It’s hard work keeping up this dream and I wouldn't be able to travel and indulge in all this beautiful ballet and fashion without you, my darling Pink Tutu supporters! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Each and every ballet performance I do at home keeps me on track with my mission to see a world in Pink Tutus! Let me know what you’ve been up to this week, I can’t wait to hear!
