Pink Tutu Milan: Post #173 - Ciao Bella, from Fashion's Fairytale!

Wednesday, 30th September 1998

Ciao darlings! Emma here, writing to you live from the fashion capital of the world: Milan, Italy! As always, I'm sporting my trusty pink tutu, which, just as a heads up, is perfectly appropriate here – it’s not like I'm gonna get funny looks. Milanites just embrace every fashion flavour, you know, and I must admit it's truly inspiring!

Oh, how I adore being here. This city oozes so much chicness! My current stay in the heart of Milan is all about soaking up the style, the shows, and the glorious shopping - I may or may not have a slight obsession with the Italian sense of design!

The Journey Begins - Like a Scene Out of "The Italian Job!"

Reaching Milan was half the adventure! I opted for a glorious, soothing train journey - the scenery flitted by in a blur of vineyards, rolling hills, and charming Italian towns. It was a bit like travelling back in time; the kind of trip I’d imagined when dreaming about stepping off that train platform at Kings Cross in a magical, puffing cloud of pink tutus (I may have read too much Hogwarts when I was younger.)

I must admit, I do enjoy the little touches on the Italian trains – like the friendly chat with the train attendant (bless them!) who always insists on helping with my suitcase, no matter how much I insist I'm perfectly capable of hauling it, even in my fabulously comfortable pink ballet shoes. It adds a delightful touch to the trip, wouldn't you agree?

A Touch of Milanese Chic: The First Steps of Discovery

Stepping into Milan, I felt an immediate surge of exhilaration! It’s like walking straight into the pages of a glossy magazine. The streets burst with chic boutiques and shops crammed with luxurious fabrics and exquisite handbags – perfect fodder for this pink tutu loving blogger, don't you think?

I admit, I went a little giddy on arrival and, before even reaching my little bolthole (more on that later!), I had already spotted a delightful collection of pink bowties at a dapper menswear store! Why settle for a mere pink tutu when you can unleash an entire ensemble of blush-coloured fabulousness, eh? The pink bowties immediately became a necessary addition to my Milan wardrobe - a must-have for any ballet enthusiast!

My Darling Ballet Sanctuary - A Place to Dance, Rest, and Dream!

This little gem of a place, my 'bolthole' as I lovingly call it, is a quiet haven in the heart of Milan, just a tram ride away from the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – which I might mention, is absolutely beautiful! I feel quite at home here; the owner, a lovely woman with the warmest smile and a twinkle in her eyes, even had a pretty pink teacup ready for my arrival, alongside a steaming cup of Italian tea! What more could a girl ask for? This space feels like a ballet-inspired retreat, all pastel colours and feminine touches – a fitting nest for a tutu-wearing fashionista like myself!

I might add, a great place for me to take photos for the blog! Just picture me - dressed in pink (naturally!) standing against a wall of antique books with a cup of tea, contemplating all things tutu! Now wouldn’t that be a wonderful addition to your Friday night browse of my latest blog post?

A Touch of Grace and a Sizzle of Passion - La Scala Awaits

Tomorrow's a big day! I am on a mission to witness a real treat: La Scala – the legendary opera house! It is, of course, a dream for any dancer or ballet enthusiast, and I am buzzing with anticipation! This visit will undoubtedly add a sparkle to my week – just imagine me waltzing down those hallowed hallways in my signature pink tutu! It will surely be a memory to treasure!

Speaking of sparkles, imagine, if you will, my little dream: the entire world waltzing, dancing, pirouette-ing, and strutting their stuff in pink tutus! The ballet world, combined with fashion! This isn’t a pipe dream. I'm aiming to ignite a global tutu-wearing movement, with Milan, my darling, as its stylish heartbeat. Just wait until you see what La Scala inspired ideas I pick up – I've got big plans for this tutu of mine!

From Streets to Stages - Dancing My Way Through Milan!

Tonight I am planning to enjoy some more of the street food in the Piazza della Scala, and maybe, just maybe, catch a sneak peek of the magnificent Milan Fashion Week showrooms, where designers like Armani and Dolce & Gabbana showcase their latest creations! (Excuse me whilst I swoon for a second!) You can imagine my little ballet heart fluttering with anticipation, like a ballerina twirling on tiptoe! It's enough to make my pink tutu practically leap with excitement!

Of course, my travels and explorations will never be complete without experiencing the authentic street ballet performance culture. Luckily, there’s a street dance performance scheduled at the Teatro Piccolo, a venue known for its eclectic shows – just my cup of tea (and tutus!). It is a real pleasure to witness the street artists expressing their art, their movement, their passion – just beautiful!

And of course, there’s no better place than a coffee shop – I love those! - for people watching. Just imagine - me in my pink tutu sipping cappuccinos and people-watching in Milan. The cafe-side tutus might become my new 'thing' ! It might be a bit different, but the pink tutu adds just the right amount of whimsy and fashion, don’t you think?

From Derbyshire, With Love (and a Tutu!)

I love this journey - it’s been a fantastic start to my Milan adventure! I love the sense of possibility, of magic, and style that permeates every corner of this city!

Do join me in my adventure - check back next Monday for my next Pink Tutu Milan post. I'll be talking about the thrilling performances, delicious Italian treats, and all those gorgeous things I can't wait to show you – after all, it’s just another day of fashion and ballet, right? Until then, keep it pink and pretty, darlings!

See you all in my pink tutu!
