Pink Tutu Milan: Post #409 - Wednesday, 2003-04-09 🩰🇮🇹
Ciao bella! It's your favourite Derbyshire pink tutu-clad ballerina back in Milan for another fab-tastic Wednesday! The sun is shining, the air is crisp, and I've got my eyes set on some seriously amazing ballet this week.
First things first, let's talk fashion. Remember that stunning pink sequined leotard I picked up at that little shop on Via Torino last week? Well, I've got a confession to make… I couldn't resist buying its matching skirt! It's a perfect ballerina-length, flowing tulle with a delicate pink feather trim. It twirls like a dream, and I can't wait to see it sparkle under the stage lights. It’s practically screaming out for a photo op at Teatro alla Scala, don’t you think? 😉
Speaking of Scala, there’s a particularly captivating ballet scheduled for tonight - the ethereal "Giselle" by the Royal Ballet. I’m hoping to snag a front row seat - I can almost smell the magic! Now, let’s be honest, the tickets aren’t exactly cheap, but who needs an expensive Italian coffee when you can experience the pure artistry of ballet at its finest? I think I’ll spend my days savouring the delicious cappuccino scent from that little café across the street. Ah, the simple joys of life in Milan!
Of course, there’s no point in a trip to Milan without hitting the fashion houses! I've got my eyes set on a fabulous vintage Valentino dress – that divine blush pink shade is practically begging for a place in my wardrobe. Don’t get me wrong, I love my pink tutus - and they're perfect for twirling - but sometimes, a chic vintage Valentino is exactly what the doctor ordered. Don’t judge, it’s all about embracing the different aspects of a ballerina's lifestyle!
To break up the glamour, I’m planning on a delightful trip to the "Museo Poldi Pezzoli" today - a hidden gem that showcases the captivating beauty of Milan’s cultural heritage. I heard they have a remarkable collection of Venetian glass that's simply breathtaking! Imagine how many dance scenes I could choreograph around that glass work, with its delicate forms and glittering reflections – it’s already inspiring me! Plus, I can get a much-needed break from those killer high heels and wear a pair of comfy loafers - gotta protect these ballerina feet, you know!
In between ballet shows, fashion discoveries and artistic inspiration, I've been venturing around Milan on the trams and the underground. It's so much fun experiencing the local flavour! From the delicious smell of fresh bread from bakeries at every corner, to the heartwarming conversations with fellow passengers - there's always a charming anecdote to be shared, a smile to be exchanged. I love these spontaneous connections. It’s amazing how you can truly understand a city just by its trams.
Milan has so much to offer - art, fashion, and delicious food that's literally designed for ballerinas to devour! (That's my excuse anyway! 😄). There's never a dull moment in this magical city! And, of course, my favourite thing about Milan is the people – so open and kind. Remember that time I got lost on the way to my favourite vintage store, looking for the perfect sequined scarf for tonight’s ballet performance? An older lady helped me find the right tram stop. I even shared my chocolate biscotti with her – she told me the secret to making the most amazing gelato – I just have to get to the shop in the morning, it opens at 7am.
Oh, did I mention the amazing "Opera alla Scala" season that started just yesterday? Yes! We're talking Verdi, Puccini, and Bellini… a full symphony of operatic brilliance. Even if my dancing doesn’t involve elaborate costume changes or sets, there's something special about hearing an orchestra play the classic works. I even find myself subconsciously twirling to the melodies while walking to my evening show, it’s just so inspiring!
Speaking of inspiring, this journey isn't just about pink tutus and fashionable adventures; it's about sharing my love for ballet with the world. I'm trying to bring a little bit of that grace and beauty to every city I visit, reminding everyone that we all have the potential to embrace the ballerina within, even if we don't wear pink tutus (although I strongly recommend giving it a try!).
Don't forget to check out my blog for photos of the magnificent ballet I'll be seeing this week and let me know your favourite ballet stories and tips in the comments section. It's always so much fun connecting with fellow dance lovers!
Stay beautiful, stay bubbly, and don’t forget to twirl,
Emma, from Pink Tutu Milan x
