Pink Tutu Milan: Post #424: Milan - City of Style, Where Even the Trams Wear Pink (almost!)

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your Pink Tutu girl, and guess what? I'm in Milan, Italy! This incredible city has been calling to me like a beautiful aria, and I finally answered! This is Post #424 on the Pink Tutu Blog, and believe me, it's gonna be a doozy. I mean, this place, this city, it's practically overflowing with pink! But first, a little background: as many of you know, I just love a good travelogue, especially if it involves a delightful tram journey, maybe a slice of focaccia for a snack, and of course, a good ballet show. This week, Milan's become my canvas for a dance of discovery!

A Pink-Fueled Journey Begins!

You might remember I left the UK last Wednesday morning, making a rather quick journey from my home in Derbyshire. After a couple of hours in a comfortable, air-conditioned train (which I swear played a rather impressive rendition of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, though it could've been the air conditioning playing tricks on my ballet-loving brain), I found myself stepping onto the platform in Milan's Stazione Centrale.

Let's just say, it's love at first sight! There's this feeling, you know, in the air... a sense of sophistication, glamour, a definite "chicness" that Milan just oozes. Right away, I felt inspired. Milan, you see, is not just about catwalks and designer bags. It's about the art of living, and I truly felt it in the air, in the music, and even in the rhythm of the trams.

Of course, the trams weren't actually pink. I mean, who could resist a hot pink Milanese tram, right? Swoon. But, I promise, I saw pink everywhere - a dazzling blush on the walls of an old palazzo, a delicate rose in a flower stall, the pink glow of a sunset over the Duomo. It's almost as if Milan itself is a big pink box filled with delicious things! And who's to say those trams wouldn't get a glamorous pink makeover one day?

Speaking of the Duomo, I couldn't help but visit this iconic landmark. I found myself gazing at the intricate marble details, lost in its beauty. My camera had a real field day snapping pics of every nook and cranny - just imagine the outfits I can pair these with for my Instagram, oh darling, the possibilities! And you know me, a beautiful setting deserves a grand ballet performance, right?

It was on this particular day, 23rd of July, Wednesday, that a magnificent spectacle unfolded - The Teatro alla Scala. The show featured an amazing adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet', a tragedy set to a poignant and moving ballet score. Oh, the costumes! A kaleidoscope of pink and red, each twirling, jumping, leaping, as they told the story of two star-crossed lovers.

The Ballerina and the Bow Tie

Let's talk about fashion! There is a distinct, unmistakable, oh-so-fabulous Italian style here. I couldn't help but notice all the chic Milanese ladies, effortlessly elegant in their outfits, from their chic tailoring and flowing dresses to their amazing accessories, including a lot of stylish bowties. Who knew a bow tie could be so glamorous?

Don't worry, darlings, I wasn't left out. The pink tutu was front and center, naturally. Milan's a bit like a theatrical stage; every street, every corner, every corner cafe is filled with this delightful, inspiring energy. It's as though every woman here is a protagonist in a fashion fairytale! It certainly gets my creative juices flowing, especially with my signature pink tutu in tow, you can be sure I was the "prima ballerina" in a fashion-focused Milan! And just like in the "Swan Lake" air-conditioning, I swear the fashion boutiques and windows all gave me knowing winks!

Fashion Faves!

Naturally, a little shopping was in order. I am always on the lookout for perfect outfits for ballet performances, even more so with the grand Teatro alla Scala having so recently charmed my socks off! There's a little hidden gem just off Piazza del Duomo, it's like a hidden oasis of pure fashion loveliness, filled with designers like Gucci, Prada, Versace. And, guess what, I managed to find a little something pink in every store! Don't you love it when a shopping trip is almost a personal mission? This wasn't just shopping for me, darlings; this was research, understanding the flow of Milan, and figuring out how it can flow into my ballet outfits! Imagine pink velvet boots worn under a blush pink tulle skirt... the thought makes my heart flutter.

I have this intuition that you all need a little bit of "Pink Tutu Milan" magic in your lives. Think: soft, graceful pinks for a whimsical day out, fiery red accents for a passionate night, or maybe a subtle blush to add a touch of charm to a simple outfit. You just need to find your way to be "Pink Tutu." That's what I am discovering all over Milan: being yourself is the most powerful thing.

Onwards to New Adventures

Well, this pink-loving ballerina needs to wrap it up for this week. My little Italian adventure has just begun! There's more pink in Milan, and more excitement for you all to discover! Next week, we'll be exploring more hidden gems in Milan, including a special spot that’s become my “pink oasis.”
