Pink Tutu Milan: Post 470 – Whirlwind Wednesday!
Buongiorno, darling dancers! It's Emma, your pink tutu-clad correspondent, writing to you live from the magical city of Milan! As you know, I adore my weekly Milan blog posts, where I get to share all my adventures in this fashion-forward, culturally rich city. This week has been a whirlwind of ballet, beautiful sights, and some rather fabulous shopping!
As you know, I fund my travels with my passion, which is dancing, so naturally, I've been on the stage quite a bit this past week. First, let me tell you about my absolutely exquisite performance at the Teatro alla Scala. I waltzed through "Giselle" like a pink cloud, and the audience loved it.
I simply adore Milan's grand theatres! Their ornate architecture is truly a delight to the eyes, and they make the whole performing experience even more magical. I swear, when I stand on those stages, I feel like I'm in a dream!
Speaking of dreams, after my performance, I treated myself to a delightful "aperitivo" at one of those charming cafes that are tucked away down Milan's winding back streets. I found a little haven in the heart of the city, a delightful little square called Piazza del Duomo. Surrounded by the incredible Milan Duomo Cathedral, I felt as if I'd stepped into a fairytale!
A Fashionista's Paradise
Of course, a visit to Milan isn't complete without some serious retail therapy! My mission this time was to find the perfect pink tutu for my upcoming performance at the Royal Opera House in London! Oh, it will be such an adventure! And for that special event, I had to be certain that my attire matched the excitement of the occasion.
Milan never disappoints in its vast selection of beautiful boutiques and ateliers. I adore their dedication to craftsmanship and detail! It makes my inner ballerina positively giddy! This week, I spent a morning in the Quadrilatero della Moda - a labyrinth of fabulous shops packed with haute couture and the latest fashion trends.
After hours of delightful browsing and some serious self-indulgence, I came away with a brand new tutu! It's a breathtaking concoction of delicate tulle, delicate beadwork and – of course - the most fabulous shade of pink imaginable. I can hardly wait to twirl onstage in it!
Taking It to the Streets
There's nothing I love more than finding ballet inspiration in the everyday! On Wednesday morning, I stumbled upon a street performer who was twirling in the most fabulous flamenco-inspired costume, adorned with the brightest red and the most fabulous layers of swirling skirts! I found myself entranced, watching the way she moved, the rhythm of her steps, the expression in her eyes. It was captivating, and for a moment, I felt like I was on stage, too!
I learned so much from that woman's performance. Ballet doesn't have to be just a performance in a theatre – it can be everywhere, in the city streets, in the movements of the everyday. That's the true beauty of dance, I think! It can make even the most mundane moments a bit more magical.
Later that day, I hopped on a tram - those electric green ones that you see everywhere! – and travelled through the heart of Milan to find a traditional ballet school tucked away in a charming old building. I was so eager to learn about their programme, their teaching methods, and how they nurtured a love for the dance in their young students.
I felt a familiar joy wash over me as I watched the children dance. They were all so different – tall, small, slim, sturdy - but the love for the dance shone through each of them. It was truly inspiring! And it reminded me why I love to teach so much. To watch those budding young dancers discover their talent, to help them reach their full potential… there's no greater reward.
A Taste of Milan
To round off this magnificent Milan adventure, I went to a fabulous restaurant. A charming trattoria tucked away in a peaceful cobbled street near the stunning Piazza della Scala. Of course, the deliciousness was the star of the show! We began with a vibrant carpaccio - wafer-thin slices of beef - paired with some fresh, creamy burrata cheese, and a crisp, delicious salad.
Then came the main event! A divine tagliatelle pasta, sprinkled with the freshest herbs and smothered in a thick, creamy sauce made with mascarpone, spinach, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. My taste buds were dancing a joyful jig!
A Final Word
This whirlwind trip to Milan has been filled with such incredible moments: breathtaking dance performances, exhilarating shopping adventures, the inspiring dance of life on the city streets, and culinary delights to warm the heart. I can't wait to see what the next adventure holds, but until then, I’m off to share these enchanting experiences with you, darling readers. Don’t forget to spread the love of pink tutus wherever you go. It's my dream for the whole world to twirl!
Until next week, darling dancers! Keep spinning!

To my wonderful readers, a few notes on this week's Milan escapade!
- Wednesday, 9th June 2004 was a significant date for Milan, as it marked the Milan Fashion Week! Of course, fashion was front of mind, which is why our fashionable Emma indulged in a bit of retail therapy!
- The " Giselle" performance at the Teatro alla Scala mentioned was very likely part of Milan Fashion Week’s grand opening event. It wouldn’t be out of place for a show to be staged, incorporating a ballet performance and a fashion show to truly set the stage for the spectacle of fashion!
- Our " aperitivo " in Piazza del Duomo offers a fascinating peek into Milan’s culinary tradition.
- The mention of " the Royal Opera House in London" suggests Emma’s journey takes her from the excitement of Milan's fashion world to another global center of artistic excellence: London.
- Our visit to the "Quadrilatero della Moda" hints at a journey to the very heart of Milan’s luxury fashion scene.
- And the description of the "traditional ballet school" shows us a glimpse of the depth and tradition of ballet in Italy.
This all combines into a captivating narrative that mixes the thrill of the Italian fashion scene with the artistic wonder of ballet! Emma's passion for dance is contagious, and her desire to spread the love of tutus, her playful, endearing spirit makes her a joy to follow.
So stay tuned for next week's post and join Emma on her dance-filled journey through Milan! And never, ever forget to embrace your inner ballerina, wherever life takes you!
