Pink Tutu Milan - #484 - Wednesday 15th September 2004 - Milan, darling!

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, back with another weekly installment from the fashion capital of the world - Milan! You guys wouldn't believe the whirlwind week I've had, it's been utter fabulousness!

First off, let's talk about this stunning city. Milan is simply brimming with life and glamour. From the chic boutiques to the historical buildings, every corner is a picture postcard begging to be captured. I practically got lost in the charming side streets, the cobblestones whispering stories of centuries past, and each shop window a tempting display of luxury and design. And speaking of luxury, let's talk about the food! The cafes are filled with the aroma of freshly brewed espresso, and every restaurant I've stepped into has been a feast for both the eyes and the tummy. You know I had to indulge in the legendary Milanese risotto – heavenly!

I've been spending a lot of time at Teatro alla Scala, you know, the legendary opera house. Not only is it visually spectacular, with its ornate interiors and gold-trimmed balconies, but the performances are divine! Last night I was swept away by a mesmerising ballet of exquisite grace and emotion, it made me long for the dance studio. My little tutu was itching to be back in action!

This week, I decided to explore Milan on the iconic tram lines. It's such a charming way to soak in the city, especially since the tram rides are so affordable! And you just can't beat the window view. I felt like I was travelling through a glamorous storybook. I managed to snag some incredible vintage pieces from a tiny shop in a bustling marketplace, nestled right beside the tram lines – vintage shops are my weakness! One piece I just couldn’t resist was a divine cherry red silk scarf, a true statement piece that I couldn't wait to add to my ever-growing wardrobe.

Now, let's talk about something near and dear to my heart - the fabulous fashions of Milan. Honestly, you guys wouldn't believe the outfits people are wearing here! It's a mix of bold statements, impeccable tailoring, and of course, the undeniable Italian flair for elegance. I spotted a lady walking her adorable Chihuahua with a sleek, fuchsia silk dress, an absolutely breathtaking cherry red leather jacket and the most incredible pair of red pumps I’ve ever seen. I have to admit, it inspired me. She made pink tutus look like child's play! I even stopped a stylish gent, his outfit just screaming Milanese fashion. He was sporting an emerald green double-breasted suit with a perfect shade of lavender shirt, the kind of combo that can only be achieved in this city.

Speaking of bold statements, remember my little pink tutu challenge? It's picking up steam in Milan! A couple of ladies actually stopped me mid-day to chat about the challenge and one lady even had a pink tutu on her dog! Can you believe that? That's what I'm talking about - spreading the love for the pink tutu! Who knew this vibrant little piece could start such a lovely chain reaction.

Speaking of pink tutus, you guys might not know this but, there's a truly fantastic pink tutu shop just around the corner from where I’m staying in the Navigli area. It's literally a pink paradise! It sells absolutely every shade of pink imaginable - blush, salmon, baby pink, magenta, hot pink... You name it! Of course I had to pick up a brand-new tulle tutu to wear for my afternoon ballet class - you can’t be a tutu fanatic and pass up the opportunity to explore pink in all its glory. I felt like I stepped into a ballerina's dream.

Speaking of ballet, I was lucky enough to secure a spot in the most prestigious ballet class in Milan this morning, nestled inside the heart of this buzzing city! Can you believe that?! Imagine me, right in the middle of Milan, in a tiny room above a local shop, doing plie's with the city bustling outside. The teachers were amazing - they made the class feel truly special, like we were sharing in some incredible secret that no one else knew about! You know, as fabulous as I'm trying to be in my pink tutu - there's no place more magical for me than that room with all those wonderful ballerinas! It truly makes me feel like I’m living my best life!

As the sun began to set, I found myself in a quaint little piazza with the scent of freshly baked pastries lingering in the air, surrounded by chattering locals and melodic Italian music. It was the perfect ending to an utterly unforgettable day in this magnificent city. I've spent every moment of this week soaking in the vibrant colours, the incredible energy and the breathtaking sights of Milan, with my little pink tutu, reminding me to stay playful and bright even in a city of sleek, high fashion. I think I’ll need a lot more than one week to capture the magic of this city, darling.

Keep shining, everyone. Don't forget to get out there and wear pink tutus. And as always, thank you for coming on this incredible journey with me! Until next week, when I'll be blogging about the city of Florence, this pink tutu will be keeping up its pinkness! Ciao for now!
