Pink Tutu Milan: Post 514 – The City That Never Sleeps, Especially When There’s a Tutu in Town!

Ciao bella! It's Emma here, back from a whirl-wind tour of Milan! And I'm here to tell you, this city truly has it all: art, culture, fashion, food - and oh, so many pink-tutu opportunities! 😉

This week's adventure started in Derbyshire, as always, a bittersweet goodbye to my loved ones (who can resist a pink-tutu hug goodbye, eh?). The train journey down was as picturesque as ever, the rolling English hills bathed in sunshine, almost like a backdrop to a romantic ballet scene. You know, those parts where the ballerina spins endlessly, yearning for something beyond the green countryside? Yep, that was me! 😉 But luckily, Milan was calling.

Arriving at Milano Centrale station, I felt a thrill of excitement. The air hummed with a cosmopolitan buzz, a blend of Italian charm and international style. My trusty pink suitcase (it really does fit all my tulle!) trundled along, my ballet bag balanced perfectly on top, ready for the adventures ahead. I was, of course, wearing a new pink tutu - a lovely soft, blush shade that blended in perfectly with the blush-toned buildings in the city.

The first order of business was, naturally, to find a fantastic flat, because what's a pink-tutu adventure without a place to put your ballet shoes? Thankfully, my flat, a chic little apartment in the Brera district, is utterly divine - all antique furniture, soft pastel tones, and enough space to practise pirouettes in the morning light.

The real adventure, though, begins on the street, and what a vibrant, exhilarating, enchanting experience it was!

My first day in Milan was a whirlwind of pink-tutu delight. You can't underestimate the power of a bright pink tutu - it truly gets heads turning in this city of fashion! 😉 The highlight, however, was my morning trip to the La Scala, a historical temple to the performing arts, an opera house that's a national icon. I waltzed through the foyer (after a few spins, obviously!) feeling a sense of privilege that this amazing building was part of my story. It's incredible to think that legendary dancers like Anna Pavlova and Vaslav Nijinsky have danced on that stage! My pink tutu was practically begging me to step on it too. I had to promise myself I would one day perform there - in the pinkest tutu ever created! 😉

In the afternoon, I was ready for some serious shopping, naturally. Milan is a mecca for fashion, and this was an opportunity to upgrade my pink tutu collection (a mission I am eternally dedicated to, you see).

Via della Spiga is pure fashion heaven! From Gucci to Valentino, it's a haven of exquisitely crafted fabrics, bold designs, and just the most beautiful colour palettes. There were so many possibilities - I can see my next tutu with delicate lace details, maybe some soft feathers… The possibilities are truly endless, you know! Of course, a fashion tour can be rather tiring, but there's something so special about wandering those high-end shops, observing the sleek Italian ladies, and getting that creative spark! I feel inspired, you know, that the power of fashion is also the power of joy.

And, let's not forget the food! I indulged in all the delightful flavours Milan has to offer: from mouth-watering risotto with fresh parmesan to the most decadent tiramisu, made with layers of velvety soft espresso cream. Every mouthful was an absolute treat!

But of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a trip to the Duomo! It’s simply breath-taking, towering over the city in a majestic display of gothic architecture. Imagine my delight, a glorious stained-glass window, glittering with jewel-tones that could only have been imagined by an artistic god!

As the sun began its descent, painting the sky in warm hues, I hopped aboard a tram (did I tell you I adore Milan trams?) and journeyed back to my apartment. The city lights began to flicker on, turning Milan into a glistening jewel box.

The evening was a delightful experience - I finally got to see a performance by the Teatro degli Arcimboldi! What a night! The talent was extraordinary, their movements captivating, and the story was just pure emotion. Ballet is my love language, and to witness a passionate performance was just a treat. I'll be back for more shows for sure.

Here’s my quick run down of the ballet, so you don't miss out. The story is about the challenges a young woman faces in trying to become a ballet dancer, inspired by the incredible dancers from La Scala Opera house - this story resonated deep within me, and as a fellow ballet lover, it was simply spell-binding. The emotions conveyed were poignant and thought-provoking, reminding me of the sheer determination it takes to achieve dreams. The costumes were amazing - they truly added to the story-telling and visual splendour of the ballet. The finale was absolutely breathtaking; the ballerinas executed the moves with elegance and grace, while the orchestra played its final chords. I stood for the final standing ovation - the entire audience was on its feet, swept away by the energy and emotion. And let me tell you, in Milan, you really feel like you’re a part of the show, connected by the magic of ballet.

So there you have it! Another fabulous trip to Milan. What a magical week - full of vibrant cityscapes, delicious Italian food, incredible ballet performances and some amazing fashion moments. Now I need a new pink tutu, but first, some Italian sunshine and a nice long nap.

Till next week, my fellow ballet and pink-tutu lovers! Until then, may your twirls be flawless and your outfits fabulous!

Yours in pink,

Emma
