Pink Tutu Milan - #624 - Wednesday 2007-05-23

Ciao, darlings!

It's Wednesday, and that means it's Pink Tutu Milan day! I'm back from another whirlwind of ballet, shopping, and delicious Italian sunshine, ready to share all my adventures with you.

As you know, Milan is a city that simply buzzes with energy. This week has been particularly electrifying, with the city getting ready for "Milan Fashion Week", a week-long celebration of everything fabulous in the world of fashion. While I may not be a catwalk queen, I’m certainly a fan of all things sartorial, and Milan never disappoints!

This week, my darling pink tutu has graced the hallowed halls of Teatro alla Scala (I even got a little wave from the conductor, how's that for a fangirl moment!) and the vibrant streets of Brera. But before I reveal all my juicy Milanese secrets, let's rewind and chat about how I got here, shall we?

The Derbyshire Dales to the City of Fashion

The journey to Milan is always an adventure in itself. This time, I travelled from my quaint home in Derbyshire, a beautiful, rolling green countryside dotted with charming villages, through the bustling city of Manchester. It’s fascinating to compare the contrasts - one moment you're amidst the tranquil Derbyshire scenery, the next you're swallowed up by the bustling, industrial heartbeat of Manchester. I especially love catching a train journey during golden hour, the setting sun bathing everything in a warm, romantic glow.

Speaking of romantic, my travelling ensemble for this adventure was a lovely shade of blush pink - it's always nice to feel a little bit special when you're journeying to such a glamorous city! And, of course, I couldn't leave home without my faithful pink tutu. Who knows where I might bump into a ballerina, and it's always handy to have your signature piece to hand!

I find that the simple act of putting on a pink tutu instantly transforms me from a slightly weary traveller into a confident, twirling, world-ready princess!

Exploring the City of Fashion

And that, my dear readers, is how I arrived in Milan, brimming with excitement and ready to conquer! This city is a haven for any aspiring ballerina like me. I can't get enough of the incredible energy that fills the air here. Every street corner seems to whisper "fashion" and "ballet."

I started my week with a visit to the Brera District (a treasure trove for lovers of all things stylish and artistic). I lost myself amongst the cobbled streets and antique shops, searching for the perfect little pink accessory for my next performance (and discovering some exquisite hand-crafted shoes and hats! I think my collection just grew a little bigger...)

The afternoon brought the highlight of my week, a beautiful ballet performance at the Teatro alla Scala. The performance of “Swan Lake” was breathtaking. Seeing such talent on stage, every movement a symphony of elegance, is truly magical.

The evening was then spent in Navigli, the charming canals of Milan, savouring the delicious taste of Italy while people-watching and enjoying the balmy evening. Who needs the Parisian chic when you can have the Milanese romance? (Well, not quite who, we love a little Parisian chic as well, don’t we! ;))

From Ballet Class to Fashion Shopping

Speaking of ballets, let's chat about the lovely dance class I took earlier today. The studio I attended was right by the bustling Porta Garibaldi train station. It was just the perfect way to shake off my travel fatigue and invigorate my mind and body for the rest of the day! And of course, I made sure my pink tutu was there, adding a dash of feminine energy to the class. After all, it wouldn’t be Pink Tutu Milan without it!

The rest of the day was spent at one of my favorite Milanese fashion haunts, an enchanting shop nestled in the charming Quadrilatero della Moda. This is the true beating heart of Italian fashion - a place where you can find exquisite designs, stunning textiles, and unique vintage pieces that would make even the most discerning fashionista swoon. I walked away with a glorious, shimmery dress for my next big night out in Milan (what's a ballerina to do but embrace all the sparkling beauty this city offers!).

A Night of Music and Dance

And now, it’s time for the grand finale of my week! Tonight, I’ll be indulging in some fantastic, live music. I’m very much looking forward to soaking up the vibrancy of Milan’s nightlife scene. There’s just so much going on, it’s truly impossible to get bored here. And as a special treat, I will also be watching a delightful street ballet performance at Piazza Duomo. Who knows, I might even spontaneously bust a few moves myself!

As I wrap up this blog, the sun is beginning to set on another extraordinary day in Milan. The sky above the city glows with the hues of the twilight, casting a golden light across the ancient buildings. It’s a beautiful scene and the perfect backdrop for a peaceful evening.

And now, a little question for you, my dear readers: Have you ever tried on a pink tutu? Do tell! Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments section below. I always love hearing from my lovely followers!

Until next week, my dears, stay twirling!

Lots of love, Emma
