Buongiorno, darlings! It's Wednesday 30th May, and Emma's back in Milan for another whirlwind week of tutus, tutus, tutus! (Did I mention tutus?) I'm so excited to be back in this vibrant city, it's the perfect place for a tutu-loving girl like me to soak up the energy and the glamour.
This week I'm sharing my thoughts on this incredible city, from the mesmerising ballet shows to the delectable gelato, to those utterly captivating trams that whizz me around town with a gentle clink-clank! (Okay, maybe that's just me being excited about everything!).
Remember, darling, this blog is about celebrating the pink, the pretty and all things magical - just like a tutu.
Pink Paradise - Fashion Finds of MilanFirst, I must confess, I am a total sucker for fashion - the way the Milanese dress is simply divine. Today, my first mission was to conquer the shops along Via Montenapoleone. It was a total sensory overload: gorgeous window displays with sleek designs, sparkling boutiques overflowing with stunning fabrics, and, oh my, those shoes! (I must have tried on every pair of sparkly ballerina flats in the whole street! And let's not forget those divine stilettos, my darling. You just must wear stilettos with a tutu – it adds that extra je ne sais quoi)
My quest? To find the perfect tutu. I have a soft spot for a vintage, 50s style tutu, a la Marilyn Monroe. That swishy, full skirt - it just whispers secrets of romance and joy, right? (My shopping haul? I shall reveal all next week!).
From Ballet Street to Ballet Theatre: A Celebration of DanceAnd let's not forget why I'm here! Milan is simply buzzing with dance – from street performers showing off their moves in Piazza Duomo to world-class performances at Teatro alla Scala, it's a real feast for the eyes! Today, I was mesmerized by the street ballet at the Teatro Piccolo. It's so incredible to see how a few simple moves in a dusty, cobbled street can capture hearts and transform everyday life into a piece of art.
Of course, a visit to Milan wouldn't be complete without an evening at the Teatro alla Scala! The architecture, the chandeliers, the sense of history... it was incredible! Today, they had Sleeping Beauty and oh, the beauty of the production was just unreal! Watching the ballerinas, those glorious leaps and effortless grace, was truly an inspirational moment. It reminded me of how powerful dance can be – to take us to another place, another world.
A Feast For the Senses – From Pink Pastries to Clink-Clank Tram RidesThe day simply wouldn't be complete without an exploration of the food! Let's just say, this city knows how to pamper my sweet tooth. Pink gelato anyone? My mission today? A little Italian delicacy - the cannoli, oh, they are to die for! This crunchy, light shell filled with sweet ricotta cheese (and a hint of that magical pink sweetness, of course!) - what more could a girl ask for?
And how can I forget the tram ride? My favourite way to see the city! I just adore the charm of these beautiful old trams – there's a vintage elegance to them, a hint of history in every rumble, and that familiar clink-clank - that sounds so delightful, right? This week I am in a real whirlwind, from my lovely, quiet village in Derbyshire, England (it's a bit slower than this energetic city!), to hopping on and off these magnificent old trams, and even the clink-clank on these little rides adds a sense of rhythm and grace! It reminds me of those delicate steps you learn in ballet - those little tap, tap, tap moves that create something beautifully poetic, a perfect melody!
And then there's the people! I love watching everyone as they navigate their day – from stylish shoppers with a quick pace, to children playing tag in the piazzas. It's all so lively! (Just remember to embrace the magic and pink, darling. You never know, the world is filled with tutu enthusiasts out there. It just takes a little inspiration!)
The Magic of Milan: A Symphony of Sights, Sounds, and, Oh, The Tutus!Milan is a city of contrasts. It's edgy and classic, traditional and modern, a melting pot of art, history, and fashion. But ultimately, it's a place of immense energy and captivating charm, where even a simple walk down the street feels like a scene from a beautiful, pink-tinted movie!
As for me? I'm living my pinkest, most glamorous life, exploring the magical corners of this amazing city!
