Pink Tutu Milan: Post 626 – Wednesday 6th June 2007: La Scala and Shopping Spree!

Ciao, darling!

Well, it's Wednesday again, which means another pink tutu post from sunny Milan! I simply adore this city – it's like a swirling ballet of cobblestone streets, fabulous fashion and the most delicious gelato. Oh, and let's not forget the exquisite ballet – there's a reason it's known as the "dance capital of the world."

This week, I took myself off to see the La Scala Opera House, the home of so many incredible ballet productions. Let me tell you, this place is magnificent. It's just breath-taking, with all the grandeur and elegance you could ever wish for in a theatre. My darling, it was practically dripping with history and glamour!

As I took my seat in the plush velvet stalls, my eyes were met with the breathtaking golden chandeliers. The red velvet curtains shimmered like a blush of pink. It truly was the ultimate setting for a beautiful ballet production, and believe me, the show didn't disappoint!

The programme was a mixture of classical ballet, modern and contemporary pieces. It truly showed off the range and brilliance of the dancers. I found myself absolutely mesmerized by the movement, the emotions, and the storytelling. I could practically feel the stories weaving through my heart!

During the performance, I couldn't resist a quick peek around at the other theatregoers, hoping to spot a fellow tutu enthusiast. You'd be surprised, I found two people with the most exquisite pink tutus – I quickly found myself making a little tutu friendship with them! I was delighted to share my love of dance and, of course, our shared admiration of this lovely shade of pink!

After the show, I took myself for a leisurely stroll around the centre of Milan. Oh my goodness, this city has a charm that simply melts your heart! Every corner seemed to reveal a hidden gem – quaint boutiques, bustling cafes and elegant arcades overflowing with dazzling clothes. Of course, I couldn't resist a spot of window-shopping. What a treat! The city was a veritable fashion playground, a true feast for my eyes.

One of my favourite shops is called "Pink & Lace," tucked away down a side street. The moment I step through the door, I'm overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of everything, from the delicate silk blouses to the stunning vintage dresses and oh-so-adorable hats. Everything is just...dreamy! I actually bought a vintage floral skirt. And what a bargain, only €30! It felt absolutely heavenly and looked divine with my pink tutu, It's a must-have for a ballerina's wardrobe.

Later that evening, I treated myself to an evening of dance at a tiny, intimate theatre called "La Dolce Danza." Imagine, you have these beautiful wooden floors, and the atmosphere feels very welcoming, almost as if you've walked into a secret studio of magic. They only have a small cast, but the performances were brilliant, and each piece felt absolutely intimate.

You'll never guess what I noticed! There were so many pink tutus, darling. My friends, the "pink tutu movement" is definitely taking off here in Italy, and it couldn’t make me happier! I can't believe I am surrounded by fellow tutu enthusiasts! Oh, my! It's like a pink tutu dream come true.

You know I adore travelling, and of course, Milan’s incredible transportation system means I’ve had a chance to travel and experience the city's amazing vibe from my favourite pink tutu perspective! This week, I’ve been enjoying travelling on the Milan trams! Now, I’m a massive fan of the metro system, and trams have that very “old world” feel, and as I gazed out the windows, I felt every single vintage building I passed by was a masterpiece. I'm totally in love with Milan. It feels just as inspiring as Paris, but with a warmer and sunnier feel.

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without indulging in the fabulous cuisine! I have to say that there’s a particular pasta dish, a delightful and fresh linguine dish with the most divine flavours of artichokes, capers, olives, and tomatoes. Simply to die for!

Oh, but the story doesn't end there! On a whim, I took a ride on one of the iconic Milanese red double decker buses! Now, my darlings, it’s truly an adventure for a tutu-loving ballerina, a ballet-tastic journey with the city's skyline as the backdrop!

And to cap it all off, I stumbled upon a delightful little artisan chocolatier, “Il Cioccolato Rosea.” Imagine the aromas! A whole world of tantalizing dark, milk and white chocolates all waiting for me! And I do have a weakness for dark chocolate – I call it my “pink tutu fuel”!

So there you have it! It’s been another busy, ballet-licious week in Milan.

Until next week, my lovelies!

XOXO,

Emma

About My Pink Tutu Adventures

Welcome to Pink Tutu Milan!

I'm Emma, and I'm a Derbyshire girl with a heart full of twirls, a head full of dreams and a suitcase full of pink tutus! As you can tell, my love for ballet is a passion that has led me across the world to beautiful places like Milan. I live and breathe everything ballet – from stunning classical pieces at the grandest theaters to intimate modern shows, even some truly inspiring ballet classes in local dance studios! My life has a constant rhythm – I live on a diet of “plies, leaps and pirouettes.”

I Love Travelling

I'm obsessed with travelling! It's my love for ballet that makes exploring new places and cultures simply amazing! I've had a lifetime’s worth of adventures – from performing in small, quaint theatres to dazzling, magnificent opera houses in exciting cities like London, Paris, New York and Moscow – to name a few! Each and every one has been an extraordinary ballet journey – just magical! Every new city seems to have its own heart-melting character. It’s my favourite “Pink Tutu” way to experience the world!

I love tutus and the colour pink

I absolutely love tutus, it’s the best garment to show off your inner ballerina, and a great reminder of the power of dance! They are the most fun garments to wear, and I adore their whimsical grace and that sense of effortless joy! And of course, when it comes to choosing a tutu – there's only one color that matters - it has to be pink. The color pink is absolutely beautiful! To me it is so versatile, and so wonderfully feminine. It stands for sweetness, fun, and pure happiness. There’s simply no other shade on the planet like it! Pink has everything.

How I Travel Around the World

I have the best, most sparkly and pink job in the world! I fund my ballet-loving, tutu-obsessed travels by dancing! I am a ballerina! I’m so passionate about dancing, and it really shows – because every penny I make goes to chasing the ultimate “Pink Tutu” travel experience – travelling around the world and dancing with incredible dancers in the most extraordinary cities!

My travels may seem like a fairytale dream, but it really all starts with one simple idea: dancing. Everything is an adventure for me, and it is all about taking a leap of faith – soaring into the unknown.
