Pink Tutu Milan: #628 - Ciao Bella! The Milan Ballet Bonanza

Wednesday 20th June 2007

Buongiorno, my lovely pink-tutu-loving friends!

It's your favourite Derbyshire girl here, Emma, back in Milan for another whirlwind week of ballet, shopping, and of course, the all-important pink tutu wearing! The Italian sunshine is already warming my cheeks, and the smell of espresso is wafting through the streets, beckoning me towards a café for a quick cappuccino.

Speaking of caffeine, I had the most fantastic performance last night - a delightful mix of contemporary and classical ballet. I love how the Italian dancers move with such incredible grace and power. You really have to see it to believe it! I think it's safe to say my dancing muscles are already feeling quite fatigued, but hey, that's what happens when you're constantly twirling around in a pink tutu!

Let me tell you about the glorious adventure that brought me to this vibrant Italian city. As always, I'm funding my travels through the magic of ballet. You see, I believe in making your passion your work. And what's more exciting than travelling the world, spreading the joy of pink tutus, and performing for enthusiastic audiences? I think it's rather dreamy, don't you?

This week, I'm staying in a delightful little hotel near the Duomo, Milan's iconic cathedral. Its spire pierces the sky, reaching towards the heavens, just like a ballet dancer reaching for a perfect arabesque. I spent my afternoon yesterday exploring the cathedral’s magnificent facade, marveling at the intricate carvings and the awe-inspiring beauty. Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a visit to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the city's architectural masterpiece. It’s like walking through a glass-covered dreamland, filled with elegant shops and restaurants, making it a true shopping paradise. I spotted the most exquisite silk scarf yesterday, its fabric shimmering like a thousand tiny pink diamonds. It was practically calling my name!

I absolutely love the hustle and bustle of the Italian cities. From the friendly chatter at the market to the joyful symphony of car horns in traffic, everything is full of life! I’ve already walked countless kilometres, hopping on and off the trams, always looking for the most charming streets and hidden cafes. My trusty camera is always close by, capturing every delightful detail - the intricate mosaics adorning the pavements, the quirky vintage signs above the shops, and of course, the vibrant colours and playful street art that decorate every corner of this wonderful city.

Talking of colour, did I mention the beautiful blooms I spotted in a little flower stall in the bustling Piazza del Duomo? Oh, the glorious, bright orange and yellow roses! A true ode to Italian charm. They would make the most delightful adornments for any ballerina's hair. Imagine the impact!

Tonight, I'm headed to the Teatro alla Scala, Milan's world-famous opera house. The ballet will be Swan Lake, one of my all-time favourite ballets, and the fact that it’s in such an opulent setting is beyond exciting! You can almost imagine the chandeliers twinkling in the grand hall and the music cascading from the high ceiling, filling the whole room with magic. The energy of this city is simply contagious.

One thing I've discovered here is that the Milanese people truly understand the joy of embracing fashion! They have this innate chic, effortlessly elegant style that just seems to exude sophistication. And where there’s fashion, there’s inspiration! You know, for a pink tutu-loving ballerina like me, that’s the ultimate fuel for creativity. I spent the morning today at a delightful vintage clothing boutique nestled amongst the bustling streets. Imagine the thrill of discovering an original tulle skirt, adorned with delicate lace, just begging to be transformed into the perfect pink tutu! You can imagine I've already found myself adding some wonderful additions to my collection.

I love how you can get a truly international flair in this city. The locals blend a classic Italian elegance with a youthful and contemporary fashion sense, always staying on top of the latest trends. Milan is where fashion trends are born. It’s simply electric!

But it’s not all just fashion and frocks, darling! The real joy of exploring a new city is discovering its soul. There are hidden pockets of history everywhere, quiet courtyards where the air hangs heavy with the scent of jasmine and honeysuckle, and charming little cafes with old-fashioned, wicker chairs and tables spilling out onto the street, serving the most delicious, steaming coffee and creamy gelato. I love finding these little pockets of beauty, sipping my espresso and watching the world go by, observing the city’s rhythm, absorbing its beauty. It’s a pure joy that’s impossible to describe.

Don’t worry, darling, I haven’t forgotten about you, my dear Pink Tutu followers. I’ll be sure to document all my adventures here, share my fashion finds, and inspire you to embrace your inner ballerina – in pink, of course! It's the only way to be. After all, a life in a pink tutu is the life for me. You only have one chance to dance!

Keep a pink tutu in your wardrobe, my friends! See you next Monday for another peek into my pink-tutu-filled world in beautiful, exciting, glamorous, and oh-so-fabulous Milan!

Emma, signing out!
