Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 29th August 2007 – Post Number 638

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma here, reporting live from the dazzling city of Milan! I've landed in this Italian fashion paradise and I am positively overflowing with excitement. I know, I know, I've been saying this for weeks now, ever since I got that fantastic opportunity to dance at La Scala, but seriously, Milan is living up to all my dreams and then some!

My journey here was a symphony of stylish transport. I took a little spin on the charming Derbyshire countryside line, watched the fields roll by in a green blur from the window of a little train, then whisked off into the heart of London where I took a red, double-decker bus, complete with that signature, "London bus smell" (a fascinating scent, if I'm being honest).

Then, I finally arrived at the iconic King's Cross Station for that big, red Eurostar that transported me right into the middle of the beautiful and historic city of Paris. As I stepped off the train at Gare du Nord, it felt like stepping into a storybook! And who doesn't love a good Parisian escapade? Paris, darling, is always a whirlwind of chic boutiques, delicious pastry shops, and the most charming cafes imaginable. It's just so romantic!

Of course, no Parisian escapade would be complete without a touch of haute couture. I indulged in a little window shopping in the most glamorous of streets and then treated myself to a hot chocolate and a piece of decadent, perfectly crafted macaroon at a cafe nestled amongst the iconic Parisian landmarks. Paris always reminds me how fabulous I am!

But the best part of my trip through France was the breathtaking high-speed train ride down into Italy. The landscape became a blur of vineyard-covered hills and sparkling turquoise water as we zoomed south. Finally, after what seemed like a lifetime of waiting (it was really only a couple of hours!) the train pulled into Milano Centrale station.

I don't think I've ever felt so welcomed. Stepping out into the sunshine of the Italian city, I felt the energy coursing through me, ready to explore. The air vibrates with the sounds of laughter and the music of a thousand street musicians. The streets are buzzing with life, full of stylish Italians going about their day, from impeccably dressed fashionistas to charming local artisans setting up shop for the day.

As I stepped onto the pavement, it was as though my little pink tutu just radiated its own unique spotlight in this grand, gorgeous city!

And Milan hasn't disappointed one bit. I have the most fabulous flat, with a balcony overlooking a street teeming with life and sunshine. The view is a million shades of colour - creamy white houses, sun-soaked terra cotta roofs, the lush green foliage of trees, all adorned with colourful awnings, fluttering banners and a myriad of potted flowers. I know, I know, I’m absolutely living my best life right now, and my favourite pink tutu has a little smile all of its own!

My little haven is a hop, skip and a jump from Teatro alla Scala, a grand building of historical significance that has become synonymous with excellence in ballet and opera. You know, I can hardly contain my excitement! The theatre itself is a masterpiece - think golden balconies, shimmering chandeliers, and a stage that could probably house an entire opera company. They’ve made space for me to dance though and this is something I'm still trying to get my head around!

Before my rehearsal today, I found a wonderful little vintage boutique crammed with the most incredible clothes. Think delicate lace, floral prints, and vintage glamour. I’m convinced it’s got a perfect tutu for every single ballerina, but I couldn’t leave without a vintage floral tea dress - it’s simply irresistible!

So here I am, perched on my balcony overlooking this vibrant city. The day is bathed in golden light, the air is filled with the scent of fresh pasta and basil, and I am absolutely surrounded by my beloved pink tutu and its delightful sister, the tea dress, ready to take on Milan in a burst of color and style. What's the biggest challenge facing me now? I need to convince as many people as possible to join the pink tutu movement, starting right here in the heart of the fashion capital of the world!

Until next week, my darling readers,

Your favourite pink-loving ballerina,

Emma xx
