Pink Tutu Milan: Post 640 - Ciao Bella from Milan!

Wednesday 12th September, 2007

Helloooo darlings! It’s your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing travel blogger Emma, checking in from the fabulous city of Milan! This week I've been twirling my way through cobblestone streets, gazing at stunning architecture, and of course, soaking up the amazing fashion scene.

Let me tell you, Milan is like a dream for any girl who loves clothes! The shops are positively bursting with beautiful creations, from designer labels to vintage treasures. And as always, my favourite colour is well represented - oh, the pinks I've seen! I snagged the most gorgeous fuchsia scarf at a little boutique in Brera - I just knew it would look absolutely divine with my new, blush-pink tulle skirt (more on that later!).

But enough about my shopping sprees (for now, at least!). My journey to Milan started with a little bit of a travel tale. You see, my usual ballet gigs back home in Derbyshire were a bit quiet this week, so I decided to use the time for some exciting exploration. Instead of the familiar countryside, I boarded a train from my little village straight to Milan, all tucked up in my comfy little pink travel tutu.

I adore train journeys! There's something so romantic and whimsical about hurtling through the landscape. The scenery is a blur of fields, villages and tunnels. And you know me - I’m never without my pink notebook, filled with scribbles of ballet choreography ideas, and thoughts for blog posts, all the while dreaming about tutus and elegant shoes!

A Magical Night at La Scala

After settling into my quaint little Airbnb apartment (yes, I have one in each city, tucked away, ready for when I return, filled with pinks!), I set out to see what Milan had to offer.

Now, what would a Pink Tutu adventure be without a trip to the Teatro alla Scala? I had a very special evening lined up with a beautiful ballet production of “Giselle”. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of seeing this timeless masterpiece. It's full of romance, drama, and of course, some amazing ballet. Seeing Giselle's ethereal grace and expressive movements up close truly brought tears to my eyes!

Let’s just say the audience at La Scala knows how to appreciate a show! I saw some of the most breathtaking haute couture dresses – gowns so magnificent they would make any ballerina envy! It wasn't just about the outfits, though; everyone in the theatre radiated elegance and appreciation for the arts. I was filled with such joy watching these passionate souls come alive as the story unfolded.

Pink Tutu Ramblings through the Duomo

Milan is known for its majestic Duomo, and let me tell you, it is even more magnificent in person! Imagine a symphony of stone, soaring skywards with intricate carvings, stained glass windows glowing with colour, and golden spires reaching towards the heavens. And to add to this already captivating scene? My little pink tutu, twirling through the Piazza del Duomo, adding a touch of whimsy and joy to this grand old square!

There were tourists from every corner of the globe snapping photos of the Duomo, and even though they probably wouldn't have recognised my pink tutu as something unique and fabulous (sometimes, you just have to have your pink tutu moment!), it didn't stop me from dancing my way through the cobblestones and into the heart of the city. I really felt a sense of connection with the people I met on this trip! After all, isn't it something that unites us? That desire for a bit of magic, joy, and beauty in the world?

Finding Inspiration in Milanese Street Style

But this blog wouldn't be complete without a few words about Milan's legendary street style, right? Now, you might think I'm obsessed with pink, and well…you’re absolutely right. But it’s a testament to Milan that I actually found myself smitten with the entire colour palette this time around! The city is a whirlwind of texture and colour, with fashionistas experimenting with everything from sleek black-and-white to vibrant pops of neon.

And honestly? The Milanese women look fantastic. They just know how to carry themselves and dress with effortless chic, and they’ve totally inspired me to push the boundaries of my own wardrobe! I’ve always had my signature pink, but this trip has really shown me that there are so many different ways to play with colour and texture! And when I get back to the UK, you’d better believe that I'm gonna have a go at channeling the Milanese flair in my own way!

Speaking of back home, I've gotta go - my suitcase is packed to the brim with fabulous finds, and my pink tutu is already itching for its next adventure! It's time to say "Ciao Bella" to Milan for now. I’ll be back soon for another dose of Italian charm! Until then, keep dancing and keep your sparkle!

Remember, every girl looks beautiful in a pink tutu - so don't be shy! Let's keep the magic going!

XOXO,

Emma xx
