Pink Tutu Milan #647: October 31st, 2007 - The City of Dreams in Pink!

Ciao bella! Emma here, your favourite Derbyshire lass, back from a whirl of Milan adventures, ready to share the latest Pink Tutu tales.

Now, it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Milan blog post without some fabulous fashion, and this week, the fashion scene in Milan is bubbling with colour, creativity, and an undeniable touch of pink (naturally!). As I skipped down Via Montenapoleone, a glorious burst of sunshine illuminating the sleek boutiques, I couldn't resist slipping into the utterly divine Palazzo Marzotto for a spot of afternoon tea. This building, oh darling, it's a vision! A veritable symphony of neoclassical elegance, adorned with intricate carvings and frescoes. Imagine this - sitting on plush velvet chairs amidst gold gilded mirrors, surrounded by the chatter of Milan's fashionable elite, a delightful scone and a delicate cup of Earl Grey in hand, and ... a gorgeous, pink tutu tucked under my coat, ready to reveal its magnificence at the most opportune moment. 😉

Speaking of magnificence, the Teatro alla Scala - Milan's famed opera house - is staging Verdi's Aida this month, and you know I couldn't resist! The music, the grandeur, the costumes…it's simply breath-taking. A truly grand opera experience.

While on the subject of breathtaking experiences, how's this for an evening to remember - a mesmerising performance at the Teatro Dal Verme, showcasing the renowned dancer, Daria Klimentova, in a truly stunning display of grace and artistry. This theatre, housed within a striking Renaissance palace, transports you to another era – an era of beautiful, ornate detail and the enchanting stories spun by a thousand dancing feet. It's simply magical. And let’s be honest, Daria looked sensational in a sparkling pink tutu, a perfect compliment to her ethereal grace!

A Pink-hued Shopping Spree in Milan

This weekend, I’m planning a full-fledged shopping spree! Now, I’ve been following fashion designer Valentino for years. I’m especially partial to the "Pink Princess" dress. They always manage to strike the perfect balance between playful, elegant and a little bit daring, just like yours truly! It seems the pink tutu bug is catching! I even spotted the most beautiful rose-pink vintage hat at "L’Amica delle Donne," which has become a favourite haunt for unique vintage pieces. (It’s quite the find - this hidden gem on Corso Matteotti is the ultimate stop for vintage lovers.)

Milan, it’s fair to say, knows how to deliver when it comes to gourmet delights. I am utterly smitten with the most divine pistachio ice cream at “Grom.” A taste sensation – the flavour, oh so perfectly sweet, creamy, and delicate. The gelato is creamy enough to almost melt in your mouth, the pistachio a beautiful shade of emerald green, an absolute joy. It makes every moment an absolute joy, and, of course, every bit of deliciousness enjoyed in my pink tutu, a beautiful combination of sweetness and style!

A Day Out in Milan

Today was filled with Milanese delights. First, a wonderful walk through the sprawling and serene Parco Sempione, a breath of fresh air in the heart of this dynamic city. I’m completely captivated by its lush gardens, grand architecture and captivating museums. Of course, I stopped to admire the Sforza Castle, its impressive towers rising high against the azure sky - it's truly majestic. And can we just talk about the stunning views of Milan from atop the castle? A must-see for every Milan visitor!

Next, the Castello Sforzesco where a rather fascinating exhibition called "Milan, Fashion, and Art” is showing off the work of the celebrated fashion house of Moschino! It was such a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of fashion and art. So exciting, so stimulating, such a perfect expression of creativity! They're both incredibly expressive forms! They also know a thing or two about creating fashion statements - and they're not afraid to experiment with colour and form - a little bit like my favourite pink tutu doesn’t it? 😉

As the day winds down, the golden hues of the setting sun casting their warm glow on the city, I’m savoring every moment. Milan is bursting with so much to discover! And speaking of discovering, the most beautiful pink tutu I've ever seen is right here at "Boutique Boutique." Just as well I'm here in Milan, I think to myself. I just can't get enough of tutus. They’re like the best friends you never had, only more fabulous, if that's even possible! I adore how a pink tutu just adds that extra dash of pink whimsy to life. You really do feel like a ballerina princess - that’s definitely my secret style weapon when I need a confidence boost, which, if you've ever been to Milan, you’ll know there’s plenty of opportunity to need a boost! This tutu, with its tiers and layers of delicate fabric, a shade of pink so vibrant, so bold, it feels as if it’s alive, its own breathing, pulsating entity. If only they made tutus that were a little more, well, comfy I’d probably wear one every day, especially on those journeys by tram - such a comfortable way to get around - a little slower than a train but the city slides by so charmingly as the tram tinkles its little bell.

An Italian Feast of Pink & Pink Tutuland

On Saturday night, after exploring the Piazza del Duomo - this is definitely the highlight of Milan. It’s just such a magical, beautiful place. So much of Milan's charm stems from this enchanting square - I wandered off to discover some hidden gems, a few of Milan's best kept secrets, those restaurants and trattorias offering real home-style cooking, oh it’s so delicious - and oh, so plentiful - those plates! So, after a lovely dinner at the "Il Ristorante della Rosa,” I’m ending the day by joining friends for a concert in a hidden courtyard in the heart of Milan, where a pianist is playing his heart out – a truly romantic night, filled with melodies and starlit skies! I’m planning to surprise everyone with my tutu – and as we get together and sway with the music – I can't help but smile – I can feel everyone beginning to “think pink” as we lose ourselves in the magic of the evening, the sounds, the light.

You see, for me, Pink Tutu Milan is more than just a fashion statement; it’s about living life to the fullest, with style, joy, and a hint of pink magic! As for tomorrow, my little tutu is itching for a big day out. Perhaps a visit to the Fondazione Prada, exploring the stunning contemporary art – its modern and intriguing design just makes me want to "tutu" myself up even more. And, then it’s back to the "Museo del Novecento" which is my absolute favourite museum – such exquisite modern Italian art.

Remember, every day's an adventure, and you don't need a special occasion to slip into a pink tutu and unleash your inner ballerina. And remember, don't forget to pink-ify your world. One pink tutu at a time! Until next time, keep those tutus twirling, and remember to let the magic of pink tutu fill every day with beautiful, exciting, joyous moments. Arrivederci!
