Pink Tutu Milan: #685 - Wednesday 2008-07-23 - Milan, Darling, Milan!

Bonjour from Milan, my dears!

The sun is shining, the gelato is calling, and this little pink tutu is twirling with joy! It’s Wednesday in Milan, which means another fabulous day of ballet bliss, chic shopping, and a little bit of “la dolce vita” sprinkled in for good measure.

I'm actually writing this from a little cafe overlooking the Piazza del Duomo - the aroma of coffee beans, fresh bread and laughter all mixing in the air, creating a beautiful melody of Milanese life.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, remember that you can join me on this fabulous adventure every Monday over at www.pink-tutu.com. Catch up on all my previous Milan misadventures and prepare yourself for an enchanting journey to a world where tutus reign supreme!

This week has been positively exhilarating! I landed in Milan just as the sun was dipping over the Alps, creating the most glorious hues of orange and gold across the sky. And oh, my darlings, the feeling of landing in a new city? It’s just… magical!

I’ve already devoured some seriously divine gelato in a beautiful pink and white café (pink, of course!), hopped onto a rattling old tram that had that "olde-worlde" charm, and stumbled upon a hidden gem of a shop filled with stunning silk scarves - it was pure, unadulterated delight!

But the real highlight? Well, that would have to be the breathtaking ballet performance I saw last night at Teatro alla Scala! Now, this theatre, my dears, is practically a ballet institution. You walk through the grand halls, the ornate ceiling shimmering with golden lights, and you just know this is where history whispers through the velvet curtains and the air hums with the legacy of giants like Pavlova and Nureyev!

And then, the performance began... The lighting, the choreography, the talent... chef's kiss. The dancers seemed to glide effortlessly across the stage, their bodies forming beautiful, breathtaking lines as they wove stories with every move. It was spellbinding.

Honestly, the beauty of it all left me quite speechless. But, then again, my favourite word is twirl, so perhaps my eloquent days are a tad far between...

I can’t resist a little bit of self-indulgence in Milan, so I just had to pop into a shop that specialises in bespoke pink tutus. My eyes were positively overwhelmed with sheer delight. My love for tutus runs deep and there’s nothing like finding a perfectly tailored, twirl-worthy piece of art that makes you want to throw your head back and laugh like a giddy ballerina.

Of course, no visit to Milan would be complete without indulging in a little retail therapy! The city is positively bursting with shops showcasing the finest Italian designs. From luxurious leather bags, to whimsical vintage treasures, to beautifully hand-stitched dresses - every street is a tempting wonderland for a little tutu-wearing adventurer like myself!

While you're picturing me waltzing around Milan in a frothy, pink cloud of tulle, don't forget I’m here in Italy, and let me tell you - my taste buds are positively dancing with excitement!

Yesterday, I found the most divine little trattoria nestled in a side street, buzzing with local chatter and the delicious aroma of homemade pasta. I savoured a plate of ravioli, each bite a little symphony of flavour. Then, I topped it off with the most exquisite tiramisu – a perfectly decadent ending to my culinary escapade.

Milan has this wonderful ability to make you feel like you're floating through life on a cloud of joyful energy. I find myself grinning like an idiot as I weave through the crowded streets, lost in the magic of it all!

This beautiful city is such an intoxicating blend of history, culture, and a whimsical dose of Italian charm that it's easy to feel transported to another world. I feel like Alice, falling down the rabbit hole into a world where the impossible is possible!

Speaking of Alice, my dearest darling - a secret to sharing! Next week, I'll be diving into a beautiful world of Milanese fashion - all while enjoying an incredible behind-the-scenes tour at one of Milan’s most prestigious fashion houses. Can you believe it? I am giddy with excitement.

Let me know if there’s anything in particular you want me to try when I’m there. Have any suggestions for my upcoming trip to the world of fashion? Just drop me a comment!

Right now, the call of the cafe and my gelato is proving irresistible. It seems my ballet class schedule has just opened up… oh, the luxury of a relaxed schedule and time to explore all the treats Milan has to offer!

Until next time, remember: always strive to find your own magic in every moment, to laugh as much as you can, and don’t be afraid to wear a pink tutu whenever you can. And oh, darling, if you feel a twinge in your heart to explore a new city or chase your dreams – then just DO IT.

With a twinkle in my eye and a flutter in my tutu,

Emma

P.S. This is post number 685 for my Milan adventures - I just *have to say it… this is simply fab-u-lous!*
