Pink Tutu Milan: Post #701 - Wednesday, 2008-11-12
Ciao bella! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, live from Milan, Italy!
The city's buzzing with energy and, as usual, I'm in the middle of it all, soaking it all up! Milan always feels so exciting and vibrant - even more so this week because fashion week is happening here! I might be wearing a pink tutu, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the gorgeous haute couture and avant-garde styles gracing the streets and catwalks! The whole city seems to be alive with creative energy and I just can't help but get caught up in it all.
But, let's get back to my favourite things - ballet! You know, I truly believe that ballet can take you anywhere in the world. My passion for dancing has taken me from the cobbled streets of Derbyshire to the bustling avenues of Milan! This trip has been made possible by a series of wonderful ballet performances - a real dream come true! And now I get to share all the beautiful sights and sounds with you, my lovely Pink Tutu readers!
Speaking of the wonderful sights, my week has been a whirl of fabulous experiences. This time, instead of hopping on the local trams (which are definitely worth exploring, trust me!), I took the high-speed train from Rome. I have to tell you, it was a completely different kind of experience - imagine a gleaming, silver train speeding past miles and miles of the Italian countryside, the sun glistening on the vineyards and olive groves. It felt so luxurious!
As soon as I stepped off the train, the magic of Milan swept me up. This city just feels like a glamorous whirlwind - beautiful architecture, impossibly chic people, and amazing shops! The shopping here is simply sensational. I haven't been able to resist adding a few more tutus to my collection - imagine, a fluffy pink tutu with gold sparkles - how can you resist? You simply can't!
And the best part? I found an adorable vintage boutique tucked away in a cobbled street - the owner is a charming gentleman with a twinkle in his eye who reminded me of my own grandpa! He had this stunning emerald green velvet dress - imagine it - long flowing sleeves, perfect for a night at the opera or even a glamorous soirée! He practically begged me to buy it, saying, "You, with your pink tutu, would look sensational in it!" - such a compliment, darling! I couldn't resist - I already have the perfect pair of black ballet shoes to wear with it!
But of course, there's more to Milan than just fashion and shopping, however delightful that is!
Tonight I am heading to see the Teatro alla Scala - it is on my bucket list! Can you imagine the breathtaking chandeliers, the magnificent décor, the sheer anticipation? It will be a truly unforgettable experience. I have been planning this evening for months. Imagine the amazing, stunning lighting of the stage, and of course, the grace and power of the dancers, all the perfect accompaniment to my very special tutu, all with a touch of that fabulous Milan flair.
You'd never believe how many amazing people I've met in Milan - from a chatty shopkeeper who loves talking about his favourite ballerina (Margot Fonteyn!), to the delightful barista who, much to my delight, serves up the most divine cappuccinos decorated with little swans - oh, it is truly a dream! I feel like I am walking around in a beautiful, elaborate, balletic dream!
However, even when I am feeling so sophisticated and fancy, I still always look forward to the little everyday things. The charming smell of freshly baked bread in the morning, a chatty gelato seller who offers me a little extra scoop of raspberry sorbet because, "You're wearing a pink tutu and it just makes you a darling!" Or finding the perfect spot by the canal with my cappuccino watching the world go by - truly Milan at its finest.
What's even more exciting is that, in just a few days, I am off to another stunning city – Florence. This means more charming cobblestone streets, more stunning churches, more delectable pasta dishes and even more opportunities to inspire people with my love for pink tutus and ballet! I can’t wait to explore the Renaissance treasures and bask in the artistic energy of Florence!
However, you know me, I am still hoping to find a couple of perfect ballet shops in Florence to add some more pieces to my already incredible collection! Who knows what amazing finds I’ll discover - perhaps a sequined pink tutu with feathered trim, imagine! Oh darling, this is just the beginning of a fabulous journey - and I will share every last detail with you, because my blog wouldn't be the same without you!
So, until next week, my dear readers! Don't forget, every day is a chance to find some joy, some beauty, and a chance to be your very own dancing queen! Remember, you too can be a pink tutu ambassador, spreading love, laughter, and a whole lot of fun everywhere you go!
Keep twirling, my darlings! And do follow me on Instagram for all the latest pink-tutu adventures, photos and fashion inspiration.
Lots of love, Emma x www.pink-tutu.com
