Pink Tutu Milan: Post #719: Milan Magic, Pink Bliss & Tram Rides

Ciao, darlings! It’s Emma, your pink tutu-clad, ballet-obsessed, fashion-forward travel companion. Welcome to another Wednesday, another #PinkTutuMilan post, landing straight into your inbox like a perfect pirouette!

This week, I've been waltzing through Milan, Italy, the city of style and, well, more style! It's been a whirlwind of cobblestone streets, stunning architecture, and enough shopping to make my head spin – all while keeping a healthy dose of ballet woven into the mix.

The Dance of Fashion in Milan

Honestly, you haven’t lived until you’ve strutted through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in a pink tutu. The swirling, elegant arcades of the Galleria are a fashion lover’s paradise. There’s something about the towering, glass-covered roof and the echo of stiletto heels clicking on marble that just screams "Chic!" (Don’t get me started on the Gucci! 😍).

Of course, no visit to Milan is complete without indulging in a bit of serious window-shopping. From the exclusive boutiques lining the Via Montenapoleone to the vintage treasures nestled in the charming backstreets, Milan is a haven for fashionistas like me. You’ll catch me swirling past the designer handbags, oohing over the couture shoes, and always trying to find the perfect pink tulle skirt for a new twirling outfit.

A Ballet Lover’s Paradise

But beyond the glamorous facades, there's a deep and vibrant ballet scene simmering in Milan. This week, I was absolutely swept away by the Teatro alla Scala, Italy's iconic opera house, which also houses an exceptional ballet company. The stage is breathtaking, adorned with magnificent velvet drapes and a majestic proscenium arch. It's like stepping into a magical, theatrical dream!

Last night, I watched the Sleeping Beauty ballet, and let me tell you, it was pure enchantment. From the precision of the corps de ballet to the breathtaking grace of the lead dancers, it was a spellbinding performance. And you know what? I spotted a few ballet girls wearing pink tutus in the audience too! 🩰 It’s like everyone’s catching on to my favourite style.

A Tram Ride Through History

Another favourite thing to do in Milan is exploring the city by tram! These iconic yellow trams rumble through the cobbled streets like elegant, moving time machines, carrying a chorus of Milanese locals and eager tourists like me. The view from the windows is truly spectacular – charming plazas, vibrant market squares, and the grand Milanese Duomo reaching for the heavens.

Each ride is an adventure, and as I journey from one stop to the next, I find myself captivated by the colourful characters that populate Milan's public transportation. You'll see smartly-dressed businessmen with their sleek briefcases, trendy students chatting animatedly, and, of course, always some lovely old ladies, heads wrapped in headscarves, watching the world go by with knowing eyes. It's like a live, ever-changing street play unfolding before you.

A Taste of Italy, With a Pinch of Pink

It wouldn’t be Milan without indulging in the culinary delights of Italy. I’m talking about creamy gelato, gooey pizza, and perfectly-brewed cappuccinos, sipped at charming little cafes while people watching with my friends, enjoying the warm sunshine on my face and feeling incredibly blessed.

Derbyshire to Milan: A Ballet Dream Come True

Now, I can’t end this post without mentioning where this incredible journey all started. You see, I’m a Derbyshire girl at heart, born and raised in the beautiful rolling hills of the Peak District. You could say my love for dance began there. I took my very first ballet class at the age of five in the village hall. My very first pink tutu came with it. And every little girl in the village was in pink. Maybe that's when my obsession began.

Back then, the idea of travelling the world, experiencing new cultures, and dancing my way through Europe, was just a distant dream. But look at me now! From the village hall in Derbyshire to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, it’s truly been a wild and wonderful ballet journey.
