Pink Tutu Milan: Post 780 - A Day in the City of Fashion & Flourishes! (Wednesday, 2010-05-19)

Ciao Bella!

It's me, Emma, your Pink Tutu girl, back from a whirlwind Wednesday in Milano, and let me tell you, it was truly tutti frutti! It feels a bit like a dream, a delightful blur of cobbled streets, the scent of fresh espresso, and, of course, so much pink! You see, today I took the Italian fashion to heart and incorporated it into my own Pink Tutu look – think a bubblegum pink tutu paired with a little black dress (from that darling shop in Como, remember?!) and a pink-feathered hat that wouldn't be out of place at a glamorous soirée!

We left Derbyshire last Friday, you see, so we could immerse ourselves in the magic of Milan for a whole week! I adore Italy, it’s all about the graceful living, the delicious food, and of course the beautiful art! It was the perfect start to my tour - who could resist the opportunity to dance under the Tuscan sun!

This week we were lucky to have been offered a prestigious position at the famed La Scala, which just feels so wonderful, you know? We did a wonderful street ballet show outside their building, so many passers-by stopped to take photos - you can see some of them in my 'Photos' section. I truly love sharing the joy of ballet and bringing a little bit of sparkle to people's lives!

Breakfast in Milan

It's impossible to resist the siren call of a true Milanese breakfast - espresso, croissant, and all with the aroma of the local bakery swirling around you. There's a simple elegance to it, much like the beautiful Milanese ladies who glide past, dressed in chic coats and towering heels. It's just gorgeous!

Trams & Tutus

We're all about making travel fun, so today's transport was the famous Milan tram, the 'Tram 1', which trundles around the city centre, taking you to all the best places. Now, you wouldn’t think tutus and trams would be a natural match, but believe me, it works! It's all about having fun with fashion and challenging those old-fashioned notions about ballet wear! People on the trams seem to love the pink! They all stop to watch and sometimes clap and wave.

La Scala: A Ballet Dream Come True

This afternoon we went to the world-famous Teatro alla Scala, which is a complete contrast to our humble Derbyshire village! The magnificent opera house is steeped in history and is the most luxurious and opulent place I have ever visited, but it feels welcoming and intimate too. Just being in the presence of such magnificent grandeur is simply magical. There's something truly special about experiencing such breathtaking beauty and art. It was like being in a fairytale, and with my pink tutu shimmering in the soft light of the theatre, it made me feel like a real ballerina princess!

I've got a full week of performing here, I just had to see how beautiful and glamorous Milano was on the Tuesday, the day before my shows. I love to experience my surroundings as fully as possible when we travel to places, it helps to inspire our moves on stage. We are lucky to be staying in a beautiful historic town outside Milan with many cute cafes, and some real fashion houses, for which it's famous of course. There are always fashion parades. We had a picnic lunch by the stream the other day and we tried the local wines at an enoteca. This has been a very magical experience for us.

The performance here tonight will be different from our usual street show, I have arranged to meet another Pink Tutu dancer called Chiara. We will be doing a duet! I'm nervous, excited, thrilled and slightly apprehensive about sharing the stage. I think we shall call it, “Milanese Sunset." I'm going to get to know Chiara better and learn what inspires her to wear her tutu! We've got some real interesting choreographies worked up and hopefully, we can create some exciting things together.

Pink Tutu Fun at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

To be honest, the fashion scene in Milan just had to be seen to be believed, so after my show tonight, we popped down to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – it’s an elegant glass-vaulted arcade that's just brimming with luxurious shops. There’s an electric atmosphere as the designers put the final touches to the shops for fashion week. It's like stepping into a wonderland of style and creativity, which makes me dream of one day designing my own pink tutu collection! Imagine – "Pink Tutu by Emma," a range of glittery tutus, tulle, and frills. I can just picture it now, it would be the perfect marriage of ballet, fashion, and, of course, my favourite colour! We all had a nice walk about, had an ice cream and made the most of being in Milan.

Pink Tutu in Milan – A Must Do for Every Ballerina

Milan is absolutely captivating - from the architectural wonders to the stylish shoppers, from the delicious food to the vibrant art scene, it's a place that just sets your soul dancing! For any ballet lover, Milan has to be on your "must-visit" list.

This weekend is going to be busy, as well as performing, we plan to spend some time at the Museo Poldi Pezzoli. It looks fabulous! Then the highlight of our week - a ballet performance by Roberto Bolle - we're very lucky to be going as guests and it's a dream come true! We'll share more about that next week, don’t worry.
