Pink Tutu Milan: Post #831 - Wednesday 11th May, 2011: The City That Never Sleeps... or Does it?
Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, your Pink Tutu blogger extraordinaire, and this week finds me in the heart of fashion-forward, romantic, and utterly enchanting Milan, Italia. My toes are already tingling with excitement, as this city whispers promises of captivating performances, decadent gelato, and of course, unparalleled shopping experiences.
This is my 831st post, and honestly, darling, sometimes it feels like I've been writing this blog since the invention of the tutu itself! It seems a lifetime ago since I was a wide-eyed, Derbyshire girl, clutching my trusty pink tutu, dreaming of Parisian streets and grand ballet theatres. But dreams have a way of becoming reality, and I'm here to tell you, every moment is pure magic.
Travel in Style:
I arrived in Milan just this morning, taking a picturesque train journey across the Italian countryside. The landscape was a vision of emerald fields, red-tiled rooftops, and fluffy clouds sailing across the azure sky. And did I mention the sheer joy of getting to Milan Central Station, a marvel of architecture itself? I had to take a picture for my Instagram - imagine my pink tutu against that intricate ironwork!
But this week, Milan will see me hopping onto those charming trams - it's a way of life here, you see! A hop, skip and a jump across the city in an open-top carriage is a true romantic escape. There’s no place I'd rather be than buzzing around on one of those little red trams, watching the cityscape whizz by. I even wore my new pink tutu and a pair of comfy, sparkly ballet pumps for the ride, making the journey even more stylish!
Milan: City of Dreams
Of course, this isn't just a holiday. I’ve arrived in Milan, specifically, because I have a fantastic opportunity to perform at the Teatro Dal Verme this weekend. Imagine: a gorgeous old theatre, gilded ceilings, velvet seats, and a stage lit to perfection - what's a girl to dream for?
But before my big moment, I'm soaking in the magic of Milan, which is already a symphony of sounds, sights, and sensations.
I started the day by venturing out into the Piazza del Duomo, that magnificent cathedral standing tall, and its imposing square pulsing with life. It’s the perfect backdrop to enjoy my favourite morning beverage - an iced cappuccino, adorned with swirls of foamy loveliness - and a warm croissant that simply melts in your mouth!
Pink Tutu and a Pinch of Milanese Chic:
What is a girl to do, however, but visit a store after a coffee and a pastry, right? After all, Milan is the birthplace of so much exquisite fashion! Today, my mission was to find the perfect accessories to go with my newest Pink Tutu for the big show on Saturday.
I wandered into a shop just off the Piazza, and it was a whirlwind of colour, design, and beauty. There were these elegant pearl necklaces and sparkling earrings that screamed 'I'm ready for the stage' in the best way! I treated myself to a matching set and an extravagant silk scarf. And because nothing completes a Pink Tutu ensemble like a statement piece of headwear, I found the most stunning pink bow – a massive, ruffled creation in the softest, fluffiest silk, that's simply impossible to resist.
Let’s be honest, darlings - shopping in Milan is like entering a fantasyland, full of extravagant dresses, statement jewellery, and bags that could house an entire miniature ballerina academy. It's the city that knows how to make you feel like a star! And for me, well, this is what it’s all about! I just can’t help myself, you know!
A Ballet Lover's Dream:
Today was the opening of a new dance festival at the Teatro alla Scala, one of the world's most famous opera houses, and I just had to get myself a ticket. It's a must-see, of course! Seeing the exquisite La Scala from the inside is every dancer's dream. It's so beautiful!
After the show, I dined like a true Milanese at a lovely restaurant called the "La Scala". (They must do that here, right?)
And guess what? They had a whole section of their menu dedicated to ballerina-inspired dishes! It was absolutely delicious. They call it “Le Ballet” and there's everything from “Tour en l'air” soup, (I believe that means "Whirlwind" in Italian), to "Pas de Deux" risotto, and even a "Grand Jeté" dessert, all inspired by classical ballet movements! Now, that’s my kind of dining experience.
Dreams Come True in Pink:
I'm absolutely thrilled with how my trip to Milan is going so far! But remember, darling, this is just the beginning. You can bet I’ll be sharing all the behind-the-scenes fun and fashion finds of this city of enchantment. Next week, I’m even going to take a cooking class to learn some classic Milanese recipes (don’t worry, I'll keep you posted!).
Until next time, stay tuned for more adventures from the heart of Italy. Remember: Life's too short to not wear pink - and tutus, darling, are simply timeless.
Bisous and twirls,
Emma xx
