This week I’m posting from Milan, as usual, a little later than usual as I’ve been having a blast exploring every nook and cranny this beautiful city has to offer. My recent performance at the Teatro alla Scala was simply breathtaking! The energy of the crowd was electrifying, and the response was truly incredible. A standing ovation for a humble ballerina from Derbyshire – how wonderfully surreal! After my performance, I took myself for a well-deserved ice cream (vanilla bean, of course, with a little pink strawberry swirl - who can resist a pink treat!). And while I savoured my frozen delight, I started to ponder about the journey I’ve embarked upon with Pink Tutu.
It’s amazing how wearing a pink tutu, something considered unconventional and quirky, has sparked such a heartwarming and supportive community. Every performance, every travel adventure, every post - it all leads back to that one beautiful pink symbol: my love for ballet and all things lovely, a celebration of everything that makes us feel good. It's about finding joy in the simple things, about letting your inner child run free and twirl to the rhythm of life! So thank you to each and every one of you, my amazing readers! My Milan: Where Ballet and Fashion Collide!
This week I’m back at my favourite spot, my tiny but oh-so-stylish little flat in the heart of Milan! From here, it’s easy to slip on my trusty pink trainers (yes, even my trainers have to match!) and take a jaunty little walk to the city’s beating heart. I can practically feel the rhythm of life in my pink-painted toenails - it's almost as though the city itself is moving to a graceful waltz, and I'm caught up in the swirling beauty of it all.
One of the things I absolutely adore about Milan is how fashion seamlessly weaves its way into the daily rhythm of the city. Every single day, I’m amazed by the sartorial spectacle around me! The city just bursts with a unique sense of chic elegance - it’s as though Milan is the leading ballerina in a dazzling show, with everyone in the audience captivated by the elegance and finesse on display.
Just a quick peek around the corner and I’m met with an unexpected runway: a woman strutting confidently down the street, sporting an impeccably tailored suit, her silhouette a masterpiece of classic elegance. I can practically hear the swish of her silk skirt and the click of her stiletto heels, each step a precise, perfectly timed ballet movement! And then, just moments later, I bump into a stylishly dressed group of friends, their outfits echoing the vibrancy of Milan itself - bold colors, playful textures, and just a hint of artistic flair - a tribute to the artistic spirit that infuses every corner of the city. It’s as though the city's pulse, beating to the rhythm of style and sophistication, somehow resonates with my own ballet-loving heart.
But while Milan may be famed for its impeccable style, the heart of this enchanting city beats for a much deeper artistic passion. And guess what? This love affair has been going on for centuries! The iconic Teatro alla Scala, an institution revered by both locals and ballet aficionados across the world, is just a stone’s throw away from my flat. Just yesterday I had a most incredible treat. A morning session of yoga in the gardens of Palazzo Marino (a stunning structure with pink-hued marble - how could I resist?!) was followed by a delicious lunch of pasta and a fresh salad (pink lemonade, of course!), before a blissful ballet session in the exquisite Teatro alla Scala. Talk about a dream come true!
And this isn’t all! The city's passion for ballet translates into a rich calendar of breathtaking performances! Ballet street theatre? Absolutely! Every Friday, the Piazza del Duomo pulsates with energy as local dancers take to the streets, transforming public spaces into open-air performance arenas. From elegant contemporary pieces to classical ballets, the performances are an incredible fusion of passion, artistry, and captivating beauty, all free to enjoy! This fusion of culture and artistry, the sheer exuberance of life in this vibrant city – it just fills my soul with joy!
Pink Tutu Travels: My Italian Ballet AdventuresI can't forget the iconic "Sforzesco Castle" nestled in the heart of the city. With its intricate stonework and historical legacy, the castle is an incredible sight! I recently took a leisurely afternoon stroll through the gardens, its vast green expanse punctuated by sculptures, fountains, and grand stone walls - an incredibly beautiful and historical backdrop for any ballerina, including this pink tutu-loving one!
Milan is like an open book, inviting me to uncover its hidden gems, secret treasures, and fascinating stories. And it's these very special experiences that are the heart of #PinkTutuMilan!
