Pink Tutu Milan - #959

Wednesday 2013-10-23

Ciao Bella!

Well, here I am again, back in Milano for my weekly dose of fashion, ballet, and of course, pink! This week's trip is even more special than usual - I'm here for a show! The Scala Opera House! The pinnacle of Italian opera, and a total must-do for any ballet-mad, fashionista traveller! I'm all aflutter, honestly! The thought of those plush red velvet seats, the gilded ceiling, the roar of the crowd… oh, the excitement!

Of course, a pink tutu outfit is absolutely essential! The sheer amount of choices I had this morning made me want to buy everything - but then I realised my suitcase would never manage it all, especially if I planned on shopping later! So, I had to be brutal.

The winner for today is a dreamy, fluffy, powder pink tutu – the perfect touch of sweetness. It floats around me like a ballerina dream cloud. Paired with a sequined crop top, a chunky knit cardigan (just in case!), and my trusty ballerina flats, I feel ready to face the Milanese day.

Speaking of, I'm taking the tram to my ballet class this morning - I love this way of seeing the city! The view from the windows is a whirlwind of terracotta rooftops, stylish ladies on Vespa scooters, and a glimpse into Milanese life that only the trams can offer. It's the perfect way to soak in the local atmosphere. There's always someone with their nose buried in a book, or a pair of hands furiously tapping on a phone – Milan is such a busy city but the tram journey always makes it feel a little more peaceful for a moment.

Today’s class was all about grace and precision. As the sun streamed through the windows of the studio, we danced through a series of pirouettes and leaps, perfecting the delicate art of the grand jeté. You'd be surprised at how exhausting beauty can be, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

After class, I wandered through the streets, taking in the city's vibrancy. Every street corner held a new wonder, every storefront displayed a symphony of colours. I couldn’t resist a detour into a tiny boutique that sells vintage lace and velvet ribbons, perfect for adding a touch of Victorian charm to any pink tutu creation.

In the afternoon, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with my friend Isabella for a coffee. She's a local blogger and she introduced me to this amazing cafe where they have a secret menu of handcrafted cakes! We had a right old gossip, too! She even promised to help me with a little DIY project for tomorrow's Scala performance - she knows where to find the most incredible feathers in Milan! I can’t wait to see what we come up with!

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a spot of shopping! After all, it’s one of the fashion capitals of the world, with some of the most fabulous designers and stores you could ever imagine. Today’s finds include a beautiful pair of scarlet-red satin gloves, and a pair of high-heeled ballerina flats adorned with the most intricate silver sequins! Who can resist a little sparkle?!

And now it’s time for dinner! Isabella is taking me to a little family-run trattoria where they do the most delicious pasta – the smell alone is making my stomach rumble!

And speaking of food, one of my favourite things about Milano is the abundance of markets! From the fragrant mounds of herbs at the local market, to the brightly coloured fruit and vegetables – Milan’s markets are a kaleidoscope of delicious delights! And of course, there's always something yummy to eat! My favourite thing to try in Milan is gelato! You can’t beat a gelato on a warm summer evening! (And actually even in autumn, too, if you’re a brave soul like me!).

I'm heading back to my hotel for a little pre-performance pamper! My room is a tiny haven of pink – I’ve been making little decorations with ribbons and glitter to create a ballerina-style boudoir, perfect for all the ballet dreaming!

So, tomorrow is the big day, the performance at the Scala! I'll be sure to share all the details on the blog – a glimpse of the opera house's splendor, my chosen pink tutu ensemble, and of course, the breathtaking performance itself!

Until then, remember… there’s always room for a little pink in your life!

Lots of love,

Emma
