Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2014-02-05 - Post #974

Buongiorno from sunny Milan! ☀️ This week's Pink Tutu post is all about my love affair with this fabulous city - and wouldn't you know it, the first day of my Milan escapade just happens to be the Wednesday before Valentine's Day! It's definitely going to be a week of romance, whether that's for my partner in dance, my adorable fluffy grey cat named Mr. Whiskers (he even gets dressed up in a little bow tie sometimes!), or, well, me! 😉 Pink, of course, has to play a major part in my Milan adventure, so my lovely pink tulle tutu is going to be making a grand entrance on the city's most iconic stages!

Travel Adventures - Trainspotting in the City of Style

My journey from Derbyshire to Milan was an absolute dream! I boarded the Eurostar at St Pancras International, feeling like I was stepping into a glamorous film set. Every train station is a beautiful spectacle - imagine stained glass windows, elaborate ceilings, and even a platform with a whole bar serving champagne and pastries! Of course, the carriages themselves were the ultimate in comfy elegance, and I had a whole row to myself, where I got lost in a delicious Italian romance novel and had a wonderful nap. The feeling of arriving in Milan was pure magic.

The Buzz of the City - Trams, Turrets, and Treasures

As soon as I stepped off the train, I could feel the vibrant energy of the city. Milan is an extraordinary mix of modern and traditional - sleek glass buildings rubbing shoulders with magnificent Gothic cathedrals and bustling squares full of chattering locals. You can hear the gentle hum of trams whizzing past, and catch the smell of freshly baked bread from street-corner cafes.

My favourite way to navigate the city is on the tram! There's just something about the rhythmic rattle and the ever-changing panorama that makes me feel connected to the local life. I hopped off near the Duomo, and just stood mesmerized, watching the crowds bustling around the towering facade.

Pink Paradise: The Shopper's Dream

I have to tell you, my first stop had to be a shopping spree, obviously! After all, I needed a little something to help celebrate the romantic energy in the air. Milan is a haven for any fashion enthusiast. 🛍️

I wandered around the Via Monte Napoleone, and almost got lost in a labyrinth of high-end boutiques, their windows a feast for the eyes. There are just so many gorgeous pieces! However, I eventually settled on a fabulous cherry-red handbag that practically screams “pink-tutu loving ballerina,” with delicate gold detailing. It’s absolutely perfect for my Parisian chic outfit, you'll see it featured later this week! 😉

I then found myself wandering into the charming vintage shops of the Navigli district, where I discovered a delightful, little shop full of vintage silk scarves. I scooped up one with delicate cherry blossom blooms, and, of course, pink silk fringe, perfectly matching my new handbag. What a day!

Opera & Ballet Dreams: A Dance Under the Stars

This evening was all about experiencing the magical world of Milan’s performing arts scene. I treated myself to a beautiful show at La Scala - I know, right? Absolute pinch-me moment! The grandeur of the venue, with its ornate decorations and plush velvet seats, just took my breath away. The ballet, "Giselle," was so incredibly captivating. Every twist, every turn, was just breathtaking. The costumes, the stage sets, the incredible performances - the whole thing left me feeling completely awestruck.

It felt like I was dancing right alongside the graceful dancers. Every twirl and leap echoed a feeling inside me, a love for the artistry of ballet that truly runs deep in my soul.

Pink Tutu-Style Fashion Inspiration

I think it's only fair that you all see the outfits I put together for my day in Milan! This isn't just about dance - it's about celebrating the joy of fashion, and being comfortable in your own style!

Look #1: Chic Street Style

For my first day, I paired a classic, slim-fitting black pencil skirt with a vibrant blush pink silk blouse, flowing beautifully from a high neck into billowing sleeves. This simple look felt classic yet elegant, but what really took it up a notch was my statement, rose gold necklace – delicate chain and a pendant that glimmered with delicate tiny gemstones. My favourite pair of ballet flats with delicate bows also added to the chic charm. You can imagine how delighted I was when I saw the adorable new vintage scarf perfectly complementing my handbag.

Look #2: Romantic Dinner Attire

I couldn't go to Milan without embracing a little romantic flair. So, when the sun started setting, I got all dressed up for dinner! A stunning dark plum velvet top paired beautifully with a sparkling, pink-tulle skirt - its movement caught the light perfectly, creating an effect reminiscent of swirling pink clouds. I topped it all off with a small, delicate gold locket, engraved with the phrase “Dance to Dream.” It felt like a real fairytale!

Food for Thought: Indulging in Italian Flavors

Milan’s culinary scene is as delicious as it is visually captivating. The streets are filled with inviting bakeries overflowing with artisan bread and colorful pastries. I’ve sampled some absolutely mouthwatering pasta dishes - carbonara so rich and creamy it melted in my mouth. This evening, I had the most amazing risotto - perfectly cooked, every grain infused with saffron. And let's not forget the gelato. A taste of the most amazing pistachio gelato was pure bliss, creamy and intense with a hint of salt - heavenly.

Embracing the Italian Way of Life

One thing that truly captures the essence of Milan is the ‘dolce vita’ - a way of life centered around taking time for yourself, savouring good food and good company. It’s an energy I'm truly embracing. Just strolling around the city, taking in the architecture, watching people relax in cafes with steaming mugs of cappuccino, really inspires me. This is where life happens, where moments of joy are captured in every glance and every smile.

*And, of course, it’s no secret, I have already planned a few more shopping excursions this week. After all, one can never have enough pretty things! *
