Pink Tutu Milan #1148: A Week in the City of Fashion (and Tutus, of course!)
Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the bustling streets of Milan, the fashion capital of the world! This week in Milan has been a whirlwind of ballet, shopping, and gelato, a truly perfect blend of Italian indulgence! It's so lovely to be back in this beautiful city. I always feel like I can breathe easier when I'm here, surrounded by all the creative energy.
But first, let's talk about my travels!
As you know, I’m a firm believer in the joys of train travel, especially through the breathtaking countryside of Europe. The journey from Derbyshire to Milan is always an adventure, with charming little towns whizzing by and the ever-changing landscapes providing endless inspiration. I even spotted a family of deer prancing through a field! Such magical moments!
I boarded the Eurostar at St Pancras International Station in London, and a quick hop to Paris allowed me to relax and indulge in a delicious French breakfast. Then, after a brief changeover at Gare du Nord, I was on a fast train to Milan Centrale, the magnificent heart of this vibrant city. I love arriving at Milan Centrale, with its beautiful stained glass ceiling and majestic statues – a true spectacle!
The first thing I do whenever I arrive in Milan is hop onto a tram, taking in all the bustling city sights – I always have my pink tutu on, so it's sure to attract a few admiring glances! This week, I rode on the number 14 tram, with its colourful graffiti, through the Navigli, which were just beautiful, as the canal reflects all the colours of the twilight.
And speaking of tutus, I’ve found the most fabulous collection of vintage ballet costumes on the Via Torino! These delicate, pastel pink tutus are truly calling to me, I just can’t resist a bargain! Imagine how adorable I’d look pirouetting on the cobbled streets of Milan, my pink tutu swirling and my ballet shoes clicking – it would be absolutely magical!
The Duomo:
Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a visit to the stunning Duomo! The white marble facade, topped with countless statues and spires, is simply breathtaking! The view from the rooftop is worth every climb – you can see the entire city, a majestic expanse of terracotta rooftops and shimmering green parks.
The other highlight of this trip was a truly unique ballet performance. You've got to check out the Teatro Dal Verme – its incredible acoustics are a haven for classical music, and this time I had a ringside seat for a stunning performance by the Teatro alla Scala Ballet - It was utterly captivating, and every twist, every arabesque, filled me with a surge of emotion! This ballet really did speak to my soul.
Milan, like a carefully crafted tutu, is all about the details: the vibrant cafe scene, the intricately designed courtyards, the charming boutiques, each one a masterpiece in its own right! I was charmed by a particularly adorable boutique selling gorgeous handcrafted tutus for little ballerinas – perfect for spreading the pink tutu love!
Milan is a city that's full of surprises – I found a charming secret garden, hidden away amidst the city's bustling streets. This little haven of peace was a wonderful reminder to stop and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us, even amidst the constant buzz of the city. It was almost as if I’d walked into a fairytale, surrounded by vibrant blossoms and lush foliage. The scent of blooming roses and honeysuckle filled the air, making me feel like a fairytale princess. I could have sat in the shade of a lemon tree, enjoying a glass of chilled prosecco all day.
Of course, I couldn't leave Milan without exploring the shopping paradise that is Via Montenapoleone! The designer boutiques here are legendary! The latest couture, shimmering jewels, and exquisite accessories – what more could a fashion-loving girl like myself ask for? It’s truly inspiring to see the endless possibilities that fashion has to offer. I tried on the most divine pink dress that literally had me twirling and dreaming of future red carpets.
For a truly authentic Milanese experience, I always make sure to sample a plate of delicious traditional Milanese pasta – “risotto al Milanese” and “ossobuco” are my personal favorites, so indulgent and comforting! Of course, no trip is complete without a decadent scoop of gelato, the most incredible treat for your sweet tooth!
Milan’s unique culture truly captured my heart. This vibrant city has such a fascinating history, with the Roman Empire, the Renaissance and a fashion history stretching centuries back, all contributing to the cultural tapestry.
Of course, I’m going to keep you updated on my next pink tutu adventure – stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes peek at a breathtaking ballet performance, a review of Milan’s hottest fashion shows and a truly unique shopping spree, I just know you are going to love it!
For now, I must go and explore this enchanting city some more. The world awaits! Until next time, darlings.
With love,
Emma, The Pink Tutu Blogger
