Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1152 - Wednesday 2017-07-05
Ciao bella! 👋 It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina blogger, back from the vibrant streets of Milan, Italy! I've just spent an absolutely glorious week here, a whirl of ballet, shopping and of course, gelato. (Because no trip to Italy is complete without indulging in that creamy, delicious heaven!)
This week's adventures have been absolutely exhilarating! From hopping onto the iconic red trams (have I told you how much I love Italian trams? Seriously, they’re just so stylish!) to the most exquisite performances, Milan has captured my heart once again.
So buckle up, my dearest tutu enthusiasts, it’s time for a trip to Italy with your favourite Derbyshire ballerina! 💖
A Symphony of Style & Swirls: Milano's Dance Delights
The real highlight of my week was seeing “La Traviata” at the Teatro alla Scala. It’s a landmark, a beautiful jewel box of a theatre, full of rich velvet and ornate details that really take you back in time. The show itself was, quite simply, a triumph! The passion of the singers, the elegant choreography, the dazzling costumes – it was a perfect storm of artistry that had me spellbound.
There’s something incredibly special about a live performance. The way the emotion washes over you, how the energy of the dancers resonates in the room – it’s truly magical. And to see “La Traviata” in such a prestigious setting was truly a privilege. I’m already dreaming about which other incredible productions I’ll see here in the future! 🩰
Ballet Classes with Italian Flair
I don’t just go to Milan to see shows, I actually have ballet classes here too! And let me tell you, Italian ballet teachers have a certain... je ne sais quoi. The passion, the precision, the sheer dedication - it really inspired me. This week's class was a real blast – we worked on some really intricate footwork and beautiful flowing movements that were both challenging and graceful. I left the studio feeling absolutely invigorated!
Speaking of Italian ballet, a couple of you sent me emails asking about ballet schools in Italy! So here’s a little insider’s scoop – one of the best is the prestigious “Accademia Teatro alla Scala.” It's located in a beautiful historic building near the Duomo, the architecture alone is breathtaking. You have to audition to get in, so good luck! 😊
Trams, Tutus & Aperitivo Time!
This week’s highlight? Riding the tram in my tutu while singing opera! Now, I’m not the best singer in the world (but I do like to think I can hold a tune!) But when I'm travelling through the charming streets of Milan, on a bright red tram, and surrounded by all those beautiful buildings, a little operatic outburst just feels right!
Don’t be shy, if you ever find yourself on a Milanese tram with a pink tutu-clad Brit singing along to "La Traviata", give me a wave! 😊
Of course, after all that singing, my little ballerina legs needed a fuel-up! I met a friend for aperitivo at a beautiful outdoor café near the Castello Sforzesco. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploration. Aperol Spritzes and endless chatter while watching the sunset, oh how I love the Italian way of life! 🥂
Shopping & Style: A Fashionista's Dream
No trip to Milan would be complete without indulging in a little fashion fix! I admit it – I absolutely adore browsing the boutiques of Via Monte Napoleone. All the high-end brands, the luxurious window displays, the Italian sense of style - it’s an absolute sensory overload in the best possible way.
While my tutu-loving heart enjoys the whimsical world of Gucci and Fendi, I find myself drawn to more independent boutiques and smaller design studios too. I love discovering new labels and unique designs. Sometimes you find the best pieces hidden away, just waiting to be discovered. 😉
This week's fashion discovery? A stunning hand-painted silk scarf that reminded me of a balletic movement in its flowing swirls of colour. I just couldn't leave Milan without it, can you blame me? 🥰
Living La Dolce Vita
As I reflect on my week in Milan, one word keeps coming to mind: dolce vita. The Italian way of life, so full of passion, art, beauty, and indulgence, really resonates with me. I try to bring some of that “dolce vita” back home to Derbyshire with me – a little slice of sunshine, if you will.
And as for the Pink Tutu Mission… Milan is proving to be the perfect inspiration for it! Every time I step onto the tram, or wander past a chic Italian cafe, I feel more determined than ever to share the joy and confidence that wearing a pink tutu brings. It's more than just a costume; it’s a statement of individuality, a symbol of embracing your inner ballerina!
So my lovely Tutuistas, keep on twirling and spreading the Pink Tutu love! ✨
And that, my friends, brings me to the end of another exciting week in Milan! I’m already dreaming of my next trip back.
