Ciao from Milan, darling readers! 🎄✨ It's Wednesday, 27th December, and Christmas is officially over, but for a pink tutu-clad ballerina, the magic never ends! I've been soaking up the festive atmosphere in this magnificent city and can’t wait to tell you all about it!
This trip is part of my ongoing quest to get everyone wearing a pink tutu, and let me tell you, Milan is proving to be a most wonderful playground for a girl with a penchant for tutus, Italian glamour, and a touch of festive whimsy!
As always, this trip wouldn't be possible without my trusty travel companion, my trusty pink tutu! 🎀 She’s a bit of a chameleon, adapting to whatever I throw at her. This week, she's a vision of festive fun, adorned with little silver snowflakes and a sequined bow, and you'll find her taking centre stage in the magical Milanese ballet scene, of course. 🩰

From Derbyshire to Milan, in a Tutu Flash
Let's rewind a little! You might be wondering how I even got to Milan in the first place. Well, it’s the culmination of many, many rehearsals, shows, and a lot of ballet magic. From the rolling hills of Derbyshire to the glittering streets of Milan, my journey was all about celebrating the joy of ballet!
I’ve always been a huge advocate for ballet outreach. This month I was privileged to be invited to perform at a couple of schools, and let me tell you, the enthusiasm of those young ballet dancers truly touched my heart. They’re the future of ballet, and the hope for a world where every little girl dreams of twirling in a pink tutu! 🩰 Speaking of hope, I just found a darling little tutu shop hidden away on one of Milan’s beautiful, bustling cobblestone streets. It’s called “La Boutique de Tutu,” and I just had to indulge in a new fluffy pink number that would definitely give my trusty old favourite some competition. 😉
Milan, The City of Ballet (and Shopping, Obviously)
Of course, one can’t be in Milan without immersing oneself in the city’s breathtaking ballet scene!
My first ballet stop was at the Teatro alla Scala. It’s as beautiful as they say, all gilded and grandiose with an undeniable air of tradition. But it's not just about the building; it’s the passion for ballet, the palpable energy of the dancers, the way the audience absorbs every intricate movement…it’s a sensory feast! They’re showcasing "Giselle" this season, a tale of love, betrayal, and heartbreak…perfect for a Christmas in Milan. I must say, though, my personal highlight was catching the enchanting "The Nutcracker" at the Teatro Carcano.
That show made my inner child swoon with delight, and yes, I admit it: I let loose my own little “tuturound” with the excited children near me! Sometimes, you just need to twirl. It’s a universal language, after all, and I wouldn't trade the infectious joy I saw on those little faces for anything!
Speaking of joy… shopping in Milan! Oh, how I love this city’s fashion-forward spirit! And my favourite shop, "L’Atelier del Tutu," just brought out a gorgeous collection of new tutus! They have the most fabulous shades of pink! You could call them “pastel paradise”! 🩰
And who could forget about those iconic Italian window displays? So much inspiration! From the latest designer gowns to elegant vintage designs, every street corner is a symphony of style. It's enough to inspire even the most jaded fashionista. You could say Milan has completely charmed my socks (and tutus) off. It's the city where imagination runs wild and dreams are born! 👠
Trams, Trains, and Tutu Tales
Milan is an amazing city for a pink tutu wearing ballerina to explore. This trip, I’ve been navigating its maze-like streets via trams and trains! It’s so refreshing, and it lets me immerse myself in the real heartbeat of Milan. You see so much life go by from the windows, from families taking festive walks to a man feeding a family of pigeons. Every journey is an unexpected adventure, and with a pink tutu, I can guarantee that all eyes will be on me, bringing a touch of whimsical charm to even the most ordinary journey!
Today, I was even lucky enough to meet a fellow pink tutu enthusiast on a tram ride to Piazza del Duomo! We shared a quick giggle and tutu twirl before saying our goodbyes. It just goes to show you, no matter where you are in the world, there are always kindred spirits who understand the universal language of the pink tutu. It’s a magical connection, and it reminds me that even in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we can create pockets of magic with our outfits! 🩰
Festive Foodie Finds
No trip to Milan is complete without experiencing the culinary delights of Italy! The city's Christmas markets are teeming with delectable treats. Oh, the smell of warm panettone baking, cinnamon-spiced cookies, and steaming hot chocolate. It’s an intoxicating scent that sends my taste buds into overdrive! This year, my absolute must-have is the most heavenly panettone filled with chocolate and hazelnut cream, sprinkled with powdered sugar and dusted with shimmery flakes of gold. This was perfect with a steaming mug of hot chocolate with a dusting of cocoa powder and cinnamon – heaven on a plate! This trip I've also discovered some amazing gelato spots that have all kinds of pink flavors, which are the perfect after-dinner treat for a ballerina. The vibrant pink color of these creamy desserts complements the pink tutu perfectly and are sure to make any day a celebration! 🍨
