Pink Tutu Milan: Post 1178 - Wednesday 3rd January 2018

Buongiorno from sunny Milan, darlings! This week, I'm trading in the brisk Derbyshire air for the Italian sunshine, and my darling pink tutu has found its way into my suitcase once again! You see, when I'm not twirling on a stage or exploring the latest fashion trends in my favourite city (it's London, FYI!), I'm following the lure of all things beautiful, and Milan, with its grand history, its captivating art, and its dazzling shopping scene, calls to me.

My arrival today felt like a warm hug - the aroma of freshly brewed espresso, the charming chaos of the street vendors, and the locals chatting in melodious Italian - all creating a symphony of pure joy!

The Art of Travel, Milan-Style

My first foray into the heart of Milan involved a tram ride – my absolute favourite form of transport. It’s all about savouring the scenery, and in Milan, there’s something wonderful around every corner. The trams themselves are little works of art, their shiny metal glinting under the afternoon sun. Then there’s the glorious cityscape - grand, elegant, with splashes of the most beautiful terracotta roofs you could imagine.

And yes, of course, I wore my pink tutu – a tulle cloud of soft pink that floats around me like a gentle breeze.

This year, I’m trying something a little different – I’m going to be immersing myself in Milanese life! Forget fancy hotels; I’ve opted for a tiny apartment in a quiet, residential neighbourhood. I’ve got a darling little balcony overlooking the street, where I’m planning to sip my morning coffee as the locals weave their magic on their balconies below – growing basil and plump tomatoes, tending their flowers, or perhaps simply enjoying the day.

And speaking of balconies… I simply must find the perfect shade of pink paint! My darling pink tutu would look just fabulous draped over the balcony railing!

Dancing Dreams

Tonight’s agenda? Ballet, naturally! It's all about the grand opening of Teatro alla Scala! The Teatro alla Scala is an absolutely beautiful historic opera house, famed across the world for its spectacular architecture and performances. I’m positively bubbling with excitement.

This evening's show is going to be exquisite. The repertoire - Giselle, with the beautiful and dramatic choreography of Marius Petipa! Oh, how I love the tale of Giselle, a peasant girl who falls in love with a prince disguised as a peasant! It’s such a tragedy – the perfect mixture of passion, beauty, and sorrow! I can already feel the magic in the air!

But of course, my true ballet passion will be unveiled at the prestigious La Scala Academy of Theatre Arts. This magnificent institution, located within a stunning historical building in Milan’s central Piazza Affari, boasts a rigorous program dedicated to the art of ballet. Just thinking about the chance to immerse myself in this ballet haven sends a tingle of excitement down my spine!

A Wardrobe Fit For a Princess (or at least a Tutu-wearing ballerina)

Shopping, naturally, is another item on my Milan itinerary! Today I found myself swept away in a swirl of luxury, silk, and glittering beauty in the glamorous Quadrilatero d'Oro (Golden Quadrangle) shopping district. It’s not for the faint-hearted, mind you. It’s the stomping ground for the elite of Italian fashion - think Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Versace, and a whole lot of luxuriousness that sends me into a state of pure awe.

It's all about elegant, beautifully cut tailoring, dazzling fabrics and timeless style. I'm planning to search out unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for my wardrobe – delicate pink scarves, a silk evening blouse, maybe even a glamorous pink sequined clutch… I simply must indulge!

And don't think I’m forgetting my little pink tutu. Oh no! My quest is to discover the perfect silk flower crown to pair with it. I picture myself wandering the bustling streets of Milan, tutu fluttering, a delicate floral halo crowning my hair… Absolutely perfect!

From Theatre to Train

Tomorrow is dedicated to the iconic Teatro Grande di Brescia. The architecture is simply breath-taking - it's an Italian palace, a dream spun out of marble, wood and silk! This theatre holds so much history and I can’t wait to experience the performance myself!

Oh, and for tomorrow's trip? It’s going to be the elegant and picturesque Trenitalia journey – it’s always such an adventure! My trusty pink tutu, of course, will be making an appearance. A journey, an outfit, a life - it’s all about those delightful, magical moments, wouldn’t you agree?

And don't forget - join me every Monday on www.pink-tutu.com as I share my adventures, my outfits, my dance discoveries, my love of all things pink and my mission to make the world a brighter place, one pink tutu at a time! Until next time!

Love and Tutu Kisses, Emma
