Pink Tutu Milan - Post 1196: Wednesday 2018-05-09

Ciao bella! It’s me, Emma, back from the dazzling city of Milan, and my oh my, you won’t believe the week I’ve had!

This week has been a whirlwind of tutus, tramcars, and Teatro alla Scala, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You see, darling, Milan is a city that pulsates with a rhythm all its own, a city of elegance, culture, and, yes, pink tutus. It’s a city that truly understands the language of grace, and believe me, a pink tutu speaks volumes.

A whirlwind of Tutus:

This past week, my darlings, I was lucky enough to be asked to perform a solo piece at a special gala event at the Teatro alla Scala. Oh, how I love that theatre! Its velvet seats, ornate details and, of course, the magical atmosphere, all wrapped up in that air of sophistication and excitement…it simply fills me with inspiration. To think I got to be a part of this for a night! It was simply a dream come true. The piece itself was a modern dance piece in a beautiful lilac chiffon dress, it was like a ballet but a more abstract feel. The response from the audience was amazing.

As always, the audience seemed captivated, their applause filled with pure joy, but what really made this evening special was the lovely woman who approached me afterwards.

“Darling!” she exclaimed, with a big smile and a twinkling eye. “Your performance was breathtaking! Absolutely beautiful!” Then, as if a sudden thought occurred to her, “Have you considered pink? Pink would have been divine in this performance, especially with those exquisite moves.”

She said it so kindly, so thoughtfully, with that twinkle in her eye. It reminded me of what I love so much about Milan – people just get it! Here, people appreciate style, elegance, and the importance of adding a little splash of colour and personality. In fact, her comment reminded me of my dear Grandma Betty back in Derbyshire, who used to say, “You’re not properly dressed unless you have at least a touch of pink”. We're not all the same, we all have different styles. It doesn't mean someone's taste is not as good or their outfits less valid. I feel the pink tutu can really lift a performance - just a splash, or the full glorious effect - like wearing a statement necklace.

A touch of Pink:

Speaking of pink, you know how much I adore all things pink, so needless to say, I embraced every opportunity to splash a bit of pink into my Milan adventure! From the pink gelato that I devoured under the arches of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the delicious pastel pink cannoli I shared with a friend in Piazza della Scala (those pistachio flavoured cannoli were something special) to the beautiful, pink rose embroidered silk scarf that I found while exploring the little hidden gem shops that line the streets of Navigli , the whole experience was positively bathed in pink!

Trams and Treats:

Of course, what would a Milan adventure be without some exciting rides on the local trams? I love the feeling of wind in my hair as I speed past all the bustling shops and stylish cafés. This time, however, I decided to elevate the experience with a special twist.

I found the cutest little baker’s in Brera. They specialise in baking adorable pink cake pops that have a delicate rose flavoured cream centre and I was so pleased with how they complimented my new scarf, just enough pink to really pop without being too OTT! And the people of Milan? Absolutely lovely! The moment they caught a glimpse of my pink tulle confection, they couldn't help but smile. It really brought out the best in everyone.

The tram journey brought me right to the front door of Teatro alla Scala, and what a sight to behold it was. The grandeur, the sheer elegance – oh, I simply adore everything about this iconic theatre. And the best part? A brand new ballet season is about to kick off! You bet I’ll be back in Milan, tutu ready, to see a few more dazzling performances, but in the meantime, it's time for me to make some more amazing memories back in the UK before I jet off again soon to find more tutus and inspiration.

What's Coming up?:

On my to-do list for today: a delicious meal at "10 Corso Como". This is a design space and it houses a well-known cafe and a very cool bookshop called "Libreria 10 Corso Como", but of course, my eyes are set on their gorgeous clothes, and some shopping is a must! And after that, there's the glorious Teatro del Piccolo to explore - they have a real family atmosphere there, a bit of a gem of a theater, one of the few in Milan to retain that unique vibe of 'let's put on a show'! You will see, in a future post, more pictures from today, I’ve got so many.

Till next time!
