It's Emma from Derbyshire, back with another week of fashion, fun, and fabulous pink tutus! This week, my journey took me to the captivating city of Milan, a fashion haven, and believe me, I'm in love. It's Wednesday, 10th July 2019, and let me tell you, things have been pretty amazing.
Now, let's rewind a little. As usual, I kicked off my Milan adventure in true pink tutu style. Travelling from the UK, I settled into the glamour of a luxurious red velvet carriage – not the royal kind, but the best possible substitute! You know, one of those classic red Milan trams! My tutu (oh, you know me, a sparkling pale pink with shimmering silver) fluttered in the breeze as I cruised along the cobbled streets. Just imagine: the clatter of the tram against the cobbles, the vibrant Italian chatter surrounding me, and the breathtaking architecture whipping past – the perfect intro to Milan!
Milan is all about the stunning buildings and impressive history – imagine Leonardo da Vinci, majestic cathedrals, and beautiful fashion boutiques. This is the essence of what you expect, and it doesn't disappoint. What you don't expect, is that they have such delicious Gelato and ice cream – I have literally sampled about eight different flavours so far, all on top of pasta and pizza!
Dancing in the Milanese Sky:
Let's get down to the core of why I'm in Milan! My journey wouldn't be complete without a bit of ballet, right? I was fortunate to witness the sheer elegance and grace of La Scala, the iconic opera house! Imagine, plush velvet seats, intricate chandeliers illuminating the stage, and the symphony orchestra playing in the pit. A real spectacle! And the dancers – well, let's just say, the movement was mesmerizing! My little pink tutu was swirling right along with them. I’ve bought a gorgeous pink and black feathered shawl, perfect for layering over my tulle, which I intend to wear to all of my dance performances here, it really elevates my tutu looks!
Tutu & Travel: Taking Milan By Tram:
You might think, "Isn't Milan all about the luxurious fashion? But I'm a huge fan of exploring new cities, even with the help of a simple public transport ticket! The tram is, honestly, the best way to get around the city and take in the vibe. Think charming narrow streets, the clink of tram tracks, and those classic buildings that stand the test of time. I’m loving all of this beautiful architecture, I mean look, I even got photos in front of the iconic Duomo! (My tutu is actually blending in, surprisingly. It must be the pink and the marble).
I just adore Milan’s energy, it’s got that chic, sassy vibe, like it wants you to stand tall, get your head turned and to embrace all of its fantastic art and history!

Now, no trip to Milan would be complete without indulging in the ultimate Italian fashion experience! I headed to Via Montenapoleone, Milan's fashion haven. Think beautiful designer boutiques showcasing exquisite garments, shoes, accessories – everything a tutu-wearing ballerina dreams of! I did pick up a few pieces: a shimmering pink sequin clutch to perfectly complement my tutu and a few gorgeous silk scarves in a delightful rose pink shade, perfect for adding a touch of femininity to any outfit. And the cherry on top? I snagged the perfect blush-coloured vintage silk gloves – all paired beautifully with my trusty, twirling pink tutu! You might not believe it, but they even have ballet shops, and believe me, my tutu got even more glamorous! I’ve even purchased another one to replace the one I wore for the journey. This one is a pale baby pink layered, shimmering, silky masterpiece, with beautiful satin ribbons.
Food, Friends, & Fun: Milan's Heartbeat
You guys know my love for food is as big as my passion for dancing. In Milan, it's all about those charming cafes. My tutu became an integral part of the experience! Think creamy cappuccino, dainty pastries, and the most mouthwatering cakes I've ever encountered! Oh, and gelato, the Italian ice-cream… let's just say I might be experiencing a new love affair with this chilled delicacy!
