Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday 2019-10-30 - Post #1273
Ciao Bella!
This week, the Pink Tutu has taken flight and landed in the fashion capital of the world – Milan! This gorgeous city is practically bursting with beautiful architecture, divine fashion, and delicious Italian food. Oh, and the ballet! Let me tell you, there's no better place to catch a show. I've been here just a few days, and already, I'm completely smitten.
Milan is a vibrant city full of history, art, and culture. Just walking the streets is an adventure! I mean, how many other cities can boast cobbled squares, impressive Duomo, and chic boutiques in the same breath? It's no wonder fashion houses have made it their home, with the fashion week taking place twice a year and the city just pulsating with an exciting energy.
But before I dive into my Milan adventures, let's get a little personal, shall we? I mean, you know, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu post without a dash of girly chit chat.
A Little About Me: The Girl in the Pink Tutu
For those who are new here (Welcome!), I’m Emma. And, you guessed it, I have an unyielding love for pink tutus. Think of me as a twenty-something Derbyshire girl (yes, from the heart of England!), who’s a bit obsessed with ballet and all things sparkly. I spend most of my days dancing in a tutu, choreographing routines, and (of course!) searching for the perfect pink ensemble.
Honestly, there's just something magical about twirling around in a fluffy pink tutu. It's a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of whimsy, and a whole lot of fun. Plus, it just makes me feel so confident and empowered.
As a professional ballerina, I spend my days performing across the globe. Every show brings something new: new venues, new cities, new cultures, and sometimes, new people to inspire to embrace the wonder of a pink tutu!
Funding My Dreams with Ballet:
One of my favourite things about being a dancer is that it enables me to travel. Because I fund all of my trips by performing, it means each journey is more than just a trip, it’s an opportunity to make my dreams come true. This week in Milan, it meant the chance to catch a ballet performance in this extraordinary city.
My Milan Ballet Adventures:
Milan is renowned for its impressive Teatro alla Scala, an opera house famous for its rich history and stunning acoustics. But I wasn't just here to marvel at its grandiosity. I wanted to experience the magic of a ballet performance.
I caught the exquisite production of “Giselle.” And, oh my! The costumes were absolutely breathtaking, the set design was enchanting, and the performance was simply divine! The dancers were captivating – their every move, graceful, fluid and emotive.
Travel by Tram:
My first few days in Milan have been an absolute whirlwind. I started my Italian adventure on the Trenitalia high-speed train, zipping past charming villages and stunning landscapes on my way to Milan.
It's one of my favourite things about travel. I've always preferred public transport. Especially in Europe. Imagine it – comfortable carriages with large windows showing the passing scenes. In Italy, it feels like an enchanting scene out of a movie.
And the Milanese trams? Honestly, they were an experience! It’s so easy to hop on, so I made sure to travel on them throughout my time in Milan – it gave me a chance to experience the local life and admire the charming, historical buildings while sipping my caffe latte (that's coffee for you non-Italians).
Shopping Heaven in Milan
Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without indulging in the city’s extraordinary fashion scene. I spent hours wandering through the cobblestone streets, checking out the luxurious boutiques on the Via Monte Napoleone and the designer ateliers on the Via della Spiga. It was like being in a fashion dream.
What was a favourite? Honestly, everything caught my eye – I had to remind myself, 'less is more', to keep from taking home more clothes than I could ever wear! I did, however, discover a pair of chic pink heels (in true Pink Tutu fashion) that matched a fabulous dress with pink accents.
A World of Ballet:
Milan isn't just a fashion capital, you know. It’s home to a flourishing ballet scene, which adds another dimension to the beauty of the city. I love how the different styles of ballet come together in the theatre, whether it's the grand steps of Russian ballet or the intimate precision of the Royal Ballet. Every performance is a new discovery.
Food for the Soul
After the Ballet? Well, nothing beats a hearty Italian meal, or even just an amazing slice of pizza. This week, I discovered a hidden gem – a small family-run trattoria down a side street. It had the most authentic pasta – creamy pesto, fresh pasta, and oh, that wonderful Italian bread! I might have just tasted heaven in each bite. The only challenge? Deciding what to order because there are just so many amazing dishes!
Ballet Dreams in a Pink Tutu:
To be honest, the one thing I find a bit sad about travelling for ballet, is how short it all feels! You find yourself immersed in a beautiful city and then you’re back on a train or plane, heading to your next performance.
But every city brings a new memory. I always make sure to pack my camera, ready to capture each breathtaking sight, each stunning building, each extraordinary street performance, each captivating stage performance, and each inspiring view of the city. Because I don't just capture moments, I capture the essence of these beautiful experiences.
As always, a heartfelt thank you for joining me in my Milan journey, dear readers. I’ve left Milan with a new understanding of the importance of creating my own memories and living in the moment. What can I say? The city is like a ballerina spinning through time. I'm sure to return soon to experience more of this incredible city's magic.
A Special Message to You:
Remember, every day is an opportunity to embrace a little bit of whimsy and magic in your life! Whether it's twirling in a pink tutu around your living room, or catching a ballet performance at a local theatre, remember there is a spark of magic inside us all waiting to be ignited! And a reminder, I’m still encouraging you to #WearAPinkTutu. Every tutu inspires someone to live their life with a little bit more sparkle, a little more confidence, and a lot more joy. So, go ahead – make the world a bit brighter!
