Pink Tutu Milan: #1308 – Where The Streets Are Paved With Style and a Touch of Pink (2020-07-01)

Hello lovelies! 🩰

Emma here, writing to you from the heart of Milan, the fashion capital of the world! I'm so excited to be here, soaking in the sunshine, the sights, and most importantly, the pink!

This week's post comes to you from my latest ballet adventure. My travels are fuelled by the magic of ballet – every performance, every pirouette, is a stepping stone towards the next thrilling destination. And what better destination than Milan, where elegance meets opulence and pink takes center stage!

Now, I know what you're thinking – Milan isn't exactly known for its love of pink. They've got a bit of a reputation for all things chic and sleek, with neutrals dominating the streets. But I say, why not add a splash of pink to every corner? Just a sprinkle, you know, enough to bring a smile to everyone's faces!

And let's be honest, pink isn't just a color. It's an attitude. It's about confidence, about embracing your inner child and making a statement that says "Look at me! I'm ready to twirl through life in my pink tutu!" 😉

And twirl I did! As soon as I stepped off the train at Milano Centrale, I felt a surge of energy, a creative spark that only Milan can ignite. I was ready to explore, ready to see the city through rose-tinted spectacles – or should I say, pink tutu-tinted spectacles?

I decided to start my Milanese adventure with a ride on the iconic Milanese trams. A journey through the city's arteries, observing its pulse, its rhythm, its fashion. It's incredible to watch people flow by in their impeccably tailored outfits. Every man in a crisp suit, every woman with a stylish scarf and an air of confidence.

But in the midst of all the understated elegance, I noticed a small group of young women, clad in tulle skirts, pink bows adorning their hair, each carrying a whimsical feather boa. They giggled as they approached the tram stop, their laughter echoing through the street. It was a sight to behold – a touch of ballet magic amidst the hustle and bustle. I knew then that my mission to make Milan a pink tutu-loving city had just gotten a little bit easier!

As the tram rattled through the city, I noticed that a touch of pink began to creep into my view. A soft pink rose nestled amongst the greens of a flower stall, a vintage pink bicycle, the rosy blush of a ceramic teapot displayed in a window. The pink, I realized, was everywhere if you just knew where to look. It was just waiting to be embraced.

Speaking of embraces, I couldn't resist visiting Palazzo Morando – an opulent 18th-century building now a stunning museum, filled with fashion and textile history. I practically skipped through its grand halls, each room a symphony of beauty, each exhibit whispering stories of elegant fabrics, intricate embroideries, and sartorial delights.

The fashion displayed here is nothing short of captivating! Imagine gowns draped with shimmering silks and beaded lace, jackets sculpted with exquisite tailoring, and hats adorned with feathers and jewels. Each garment was a masterpiece, a testament to the human desire to express ourselves through style.

But my favorite piece, hands down, was a gown in a blush pink hue. It hung from a silk mannequin, a perfect form in perfect pink. It felt almost otherworldly, like it had stepped out of a fairytale. I knew then that I had to have it. Well, maybe not have it exactly – but I definitely had to admire it. It was the perfect representation of how pink can elevate elegance and transform an everyday garment into a piece of art.

I took inspiration from the vintage designs and the graceful silhouettes – a lesson in simplicity, elegance, and the power of color. After all, a good tutu doesn't need much to be stunning. A little pink goes a long way.

Speaking of "going a long way," the Milanese tram network is a delight! I felt like a character out of a classic novel, weaving through the cobblestone streets, my pink tutu rustling softly with each gentle sway of the tram. It was an absolute pleasure, I must say.

After exploring the captivating exhibits at Palazzo Morando, I felt a twirl in my steps, a need for some fresh air, and a delicious lunch! I decided to wander towards Brera, the art and fashion district. This neighborhood is known for its charming courtyards, quirky shops, and chic restaurants, perfect for a leisurely lunch, a little shopping, and perhaps, a street performance to inspire.

Milan's streets were alive with people enjoying the sunshine, grabbing coffees, browsing through art galleries, and even breaking into spontaneous ballet routines! Yes, you heard that right! There was a young woman, a veritable vision in a black leotard, dancing effortlessly in front of a cafe, her elegant movements drawing cheers and applause from the onlookers. She radiated an ethereal charm, making the everyday world seem like a stage. It was the kind of spontaneous performance that makes your heart soar.

And I was hooked. I couldn't resist joining in! (Remember, my motto is 'Life's too short for a boring wardrobe,' so, of course, I twirled alongside!) 🩰 We formed a miniature ballet troupe, twirling and leaping in perfect sync. Even the trams honked their horns in appreciation.

We embraced the joy of dance and shared a moment of artistic camaraderie, right there on the vibrant streets of Milan. This was it. The perfect intersection of fashion, art, and pink! It was a moment of true magic – the kind that leaves you feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to embrace the world with a little extra flair.

As I walked down Via Montenapoleone, the ultimate hub of luxury, I was amazed by the sheer opulence. Designer boutiques shimmered under the golden afternoon sun, mannequins posed in the latest fashion, and a gentle hum of high-end shoppers filled the air.

Milan truly is a city where every corner bursts with style. It's a symphony of textures, a collection of textures, and an absolute paradise for those who adore all things beautiful.

But amid the glamour and grandeur, I found myself seeking a little bit of history and a taste of the authentic Milan. My journey led me to the magnificent Castello Sforzesco. Its ancient walls whisper stories of bygone eras, of knights and nobles, of love and loss, of the rise and fall of empires.

As I explored the courtyard and the museum inside, I imagined the city through the centuries, the changes it has witnessed, the characters who have walked these same paths. The history of Milan felt so palpable, like a ghostly presence clinging to every corner, reminding me that we are but temporary occupants of a timeless tapestry.

Of course, my journey wouldn't be complete without a stop at the iconic Teatro alla Scala. This legendary opera house is considered one of the world's most prestigious venues for music and performance, a true sanctuary of art and culture. I imagined the famous dancers and singers who have graced its stage, the whispered secrets and the roar of the applause. It was a dream come true for me, standing there, dreaming of future performances and grand openings.

But even a pink tutu aficionado needs some pampering, and so, I embarked on a delightful escapade through Milan's exquisite shopping districts. Via della Spiga, with its boutique fashion and glamorous vibe, and the grand shopping arcades of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. I was enchanted by the art deco elegance, the shimmering chandeliers, and the array of exquisite shops, each offering its own unique blend of Italian artistry and flair.

Milan is indeed the queen of the sartorial world, and every shop window, every store front, every fashion show, seems to be a declaration of this ultimate truth.

It's time for me to leave you with a pink-filled hug from the heart of Milan. I am so grateful for this trip. The experiences, the inspirations, the discoveries, all woven together to create a memorable experience for my little pink tutu soul.

My mission, of course, is ongoing! I hope that you'll join me on my journey. Every step, every adventure, every dance moves me closer to spreading a little bit of pink throughout the world, one tutu at a time!

Remember to check back next Monday for my new blog post. Until then, take care, be fabulous, and embrace your inner ballerina!

xx,

Emma 🩰
