Pink Tutu Milan - Blog Post #1324: Ciao Bella, Milano!

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers!

It’s Wednesday 20th October 2020, and I’m writing to you from sunny Milano, Italy! The Italian sun is shining and I can already feel the warmth on my face as I sip my cappuccino at this cute little cafe, watching the locals rush past. And of course, what else am I wearing? Yep, you guessed it… a pink tutu! Pink and Italian sunshine… the perfect combination, wouldn’t you say?

This week's blog is a special one, all about my exciting adventures in Milan! It’s a city I’ve wanted to visit for years, and I’ve finally made it! I'm here for the whole week, and I’ve packed my trusty pink tutu in my suitcase (it fits perfectly!) as well as my fanciest pair of pointe shoes. This week is all about exploring, shopping, and seeing as much ballet as I possibly can!

You know how much I love a good ballet performance. It’s one of the things I’m most passionate about, and it’s even what fuels my travels! I’m always looking for ways to keep the pink tutu twirling and bring a little bit of joy to the world, and what better way to do that than with a good old-fashioned ballet show?

So, let’s talk about what I’m up to in Milano, shall we?

My Milan Itinerary

Today was a day of exploring! I took a beautiful tram ride from the city centre out to the stunning Duomo, with its iconic marble facade and breathtaking spire. I think my eyes are still twinkling after the view from the top! It truly was a fairytale, like stepping into a storybook! The detail on the exterior, the mosaic floor, it's simply breathtaking.

And of course, after a day of exploring, what better way to end it than with a delicious pizza? The Italian cuisine is one of my favourite things in the world – it’s like every meal is a celebration. I particularly love pasta (it reminds me of my childhood pasta lunches with my Nan), and I had the most incredible lasagne with creamy ricotta and fresh basil that simply melted in my mouth!

Tomorrow, it’s time for some ballet fun! I’ve got tickets to see “Giselle” at the Teatro alla Scala. Can you even believe it? I've heard such incredible things about this theatre and I cannot wait to see it come alive! They say it’s the best place to experience an opera or ballet performance in all of Europe – I’ll have to tell you all about it when I’m back!

I plan to get into my most fabulous tutu and maybe even some glitzy accessories for the occasion, after all, who doesn't want a little extra sparkle for ballet! I will let you know all about the costumes, the stage sets and all the things I notice at this iconic venue in next week’s blog.

My Shopping Adventures

You know me, I love to shop. There’s something about finding the perfect piece of clothing – a little twirl-tastic number in my favourite shade of pink, maybe even a pair of chic ballet pumps… that makes my heart sing! I’m absolutely in love with Milan! It’s like the home of high-fashion in Europe – a fashionista's paradise, with beautifully curated shop windows displaying incredible clothing and accessories. There's just so much inspiration for outfit ideas everywhere you look! This is definitely a city that deserves to be enjoyed in your favourite pink tutu!

I've been planning to create some new, sparkly additions to my Tutu Collection, and Milan’s vibrant streets are the perfect place for finding those unique pieces. I’m thinking a glamorous, glitzy top for my “Giselle” experience. Think sparkling sequins and maybe even some ostrich feathers, what do you think?

You guys know, pink tutus can really be dressed up or down, so I want to try out some fun ways to style a pink tutu while I'm here in Milano, especially in places like the chic Via Montenapoleone, filled with elegant boutiques and luxury brands, as well as Via della Spiga known for its trendy shops. I may just need a couple more suitcases for all of the amazing shopping I'm going to do! I promise to post plenty of photos of my finds on Instagram this week!

Ballet Street!

The best part is, I'm already getting to experience some of the “Ballet Street” style that Milano is famous for! It's so exciting! I'm even thinking about getting involved in one of the classes while I’m here - maybe something contemporary or even ballet en pointe? Just think, it could be the start of an exciting new ballet adventure! I mean, ballet en pointe is something I’ve always wanted to learn properly – imagine my Instagram feed in a few days if I manage it! And I'm dreaming of maybe even finding a group of fellow tutu lovers and taking a spin together. I'll share any news with you, of course, in my next post.

Pink Tutu Milano… what’s it like?

This week, it's about soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying all of the sights, and dancing the night away at the world-famous opera house!

Of course, there will be pink tutus aplenty. I’m going to be incorporating them into everything I do, as usual! This city’s vibrant culture is just begging for a touch of pink. So watch out, Milan!

Travel by Train

Something else that's been super exciting in Milan? Riding on their famous red trams. I love these trams! They're just so iconic and remind me of classic movies, all those beautiful images I have seen, and with the way that the tracks seem to go on forever, they are reminiscent of fairytale scenes in books! They’ve been a part of my travels for years. Whether I'm whizzing past scenic countryside or weaving through bustling city streets, trams and trains always add to the experience for me. It's one of the things I love about this part of Europe, exploring new cities and charming towns and getting a feel for the authentic pace of life. There’s nothing quite like the gentle rhythm of the journey, the rumble of the wheels on the tracks, the beautiful scenes going past, that all really adds to my travels! Plus, a good train ride gives me a chance to sketch out some new Tutu looks for the week!

Pink Tutu Tips for Travelling

For all my fellow Tutu Twirlers heading on adventures around the globe: Always pack an extra bag, especially if you’re going on a shopping spree! A big suitcase (even bigger than normal to fit your extra pink tutus) is absolutely a necessity for those fashion finds!

It goes without saying… you should wear your pink tutu! Every trip needs a dose of colour!

Fashion Update! A look at this week's outfit

This week's look for Milan is, of course, all about pastel pink and beautiful Italian details. I'm combining my new blush-coloured satin tutu, with some lace detailing at the top, with a pair of delicate, floral printed white top. It looks stunning with a classic blush-pink scarf with hand-painted detail to top off the outfit.

For a little touch of bling, I've added some shimmering ballet shoes in a pearl-white shade, and of course, some pink crystal earrings!

I've always said… why just wear pink when you can sparkle pink!
