Pink Tutu Milan: Ciao Bella!

Post #1443: A Pink Tutu Pilgrimage to La Scala

Wednesday 1st February 2023

Ciao, my darling ballet bunnies! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, Milan-loving Emma here, back with another whirlwind blog post. Today, I’m channeling my inner ballerina princess with a trip to La Scala, one of the most iconic opera houses in the world. You might know this glorious building from the opening scene of “Call Me By Your Name,” where it graces the film as a magical and inspiring setting.

My heart skips a beat every time I see it. The intricate detail on the facade, the sheer elegance of the whole building... It’s enough to make any fashionista and ballet fan weak at the knees. Today, I’m embracing all things La Scala and pink-tutuing my way around Milan!

A Little Bit of Derbyshire in Milan

This trip wouldn't be complete without sharing a bit of my Derbyshire roots. It might seem like a world away, the rolling green hills of my home versus the cobbled streets of Milan, but the spirit of the stage stays with me no matter where I go. You see, Milan has this enchanting quality – it breathes art, design, and creativity in every nook and cranny. It makes me think of my childhood in Derbyshire, always trying to find beauty and enchantment in the simple things. Whether it's admiring a dew-drop on a cobweb or imagining a fairy ring in a patch of woodland, that essence of wonder always shines through, and here in Milan, it’s amplified.

Trams, Trains, and Tututus: The Pink-tutu Milan Way

After a hearty breakfast of croissants and Italian coffee, I hopped on a tram towards the Duomo. Yes, I always make sure to pack my trusty pink tutu for these Milan adventures – you can never be too overdressed in this beautiful city.

As I whizzed through the charming streets, I was filled with such excitement. You know that feeling when you can’t stop smiling and bouncing? That’s what Milan does to me. The atmosphere is vibrant, artistic, and absolutely brimming with style. It's a city that speaks to my soul, and today, La Scala is ready to take my breath away!

Shopping Spree: Finding the Perfect Ballet Outfit

Before reaching La Scala, a stop at “La Rinascente” was mandatory. A true mecca for fashionistas, this iconic department store holds everything from couture creations to those fabulous ballet necessities – perfect leotards, fluffy tulle skirts, and of course, a whole section devoted to those magical pink tutus!

Finding the perfect ballet outfit for tonight’s performance is a top priority. I mean, you don't just show up to La Scala looking anything less than sensational! My gaze drifted across delicate pinks, shimmering satins, and beautiful embroideries. I ended up picking a beautiful coral-pink tutu with delicate tulle layers that move with each twirl and a shimmering top adorned with exquisite sequined birds. Just picture an extravagant swan lake ballerina with a dash of my own personality – it’s pure magic!

The Elegance of La Scala

And now, it’s finally time to reach my destination – the iconic La Scala Opera House! Standing before this architectural masterpiece, you can’t help but feel the grandeur. La Scala holds such history and tradition - the famous ballet performances, the unforgettable opera nights, the captivating performances. I felt completely enthralled!

After taking some quick photos (my trusty phone was snapping pictures every second, of course), I was whisked inside. The ornate foyer left me speechless with its chandeliers, intricate sculptures, and beautiful painted murals.

I’m not exaggerating – the grandeur made me want to twirl! I could imagine the elegant ballroom gowns swirling around this room, the tinkling laughter, and the whimsical conversations of a bygone era. It was simply enchanting!

A Ballet Performance to Remember

This evening’s performance was a production of “La Bayadère.” A stunning performance! It was all I had ever dreamed of! It started with the powerful choreography that showcased both the athleticism and the elegance of the dancers. It was mesmerizing, with each dancer showcasing a grace and control I’ve always aspired to. The stage designs, with a mix of rich silks, glittering fabrics, and impressive set pieces were a delight to see.

My personal highlight was the final act with its incredible display of emotion. The tragic love story was breathtaking. I literally sat on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think the last time I’d been so emotionally moved was at a show at The Royal Opera House in London. This was definitely an experience to remember.

Milan, a Ballet Lover’s Dream

And there you have it! Another magical night in Milan! My heart still feels a little giddy from all the emotions of today’s adventures. If you ever have the chance to visit, please do. The architecture, the fashion, and the art - oh my! The streets are vibrant, and the people are warm and friendly, not to mention the amazing food scene – and, of course, the beautiful La Scala opera house! I don't think I can ever truly tire of exploring this magnificent city.

Pink-tututing my Way Through Life

And now, my ballet bunnies, let's talk tutus! Today's journey is a reminder that you can embrace your passion for ballet in any setting, no matter where your adventure takes you. I love how my pink tutu becomes a symbol of my inner ballerina princess.

Here's to always finding beauty, magic, and a little bit of tutu magic along the way. Until next week, keep dreaming pink!

Ciao Bella!
