Pink Tutu Milan: #1445 - Wednesday, February 15th, 2023
Ciao, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad travel enthusiast, and I'm writing to you from the beautiful, bustling city of Milan! This week's adventure feels a bit like stepping back in time, as I've embraced the city's timeless charm, complete with cobbled streets, hidden courtyards, and grand architecture. But before we get lost in the Milanese magic, let me fill you in on a little secret...
Pink Tutus and Opera!
You might think it's a little incongruous, pairing my favourite fluffy pink tutus with a classical opera setting. But let me assure you, it's the perfect blend of Parisian chic and Milanese elegance! Last night, I donned my new powder pink tutu (which, by the way, has the most beautiful fluffy layers, perfect for twirling) and headed for La Scala, Milan's famous opera house.
Stepping into La Scala was an absolute dream! The grand architecture, the velvet-lined seating, the sheer buzz in the air – it felt like stepping into a world of luxury and sophistication. But beyond the glitz and glam, what truly resonated was the music. Verdi’s "Rigoletto" transported me to another time, another world. The emotions poured out through the powerful voices and the vibrant orchestra.
Afterwards, I popped into a delightful café across the road from the theatre. Nestled under the twinkle lights of a Parisian-style canopy, I enjoyed a cup of the richest, most decadent hot chocolate I've ever had! The perfect ending to a truly unforgettable evening.
Milan, a City of Style
This week, Milan has been overflowing with fashion, from the catwalks of Fashion Week to the vibrant streets. There's no doubt that Milan is a city that truly understands the power of style. I, of course, was drawn to the chic boutiques and vintage shops, seeking out new treasures to add to my wardrobe. You'll be seeing plenty of those new finds in my upcoming posts, darlings.
One of my favourite discoveries was a delightful little boutique in the heart of the Brera district. I stumbled upon it whilst browsing for antique furniture - a rather different pastime, you may say, but that’s the beauty of Milan! I found myself entranced by the exquisite silk scarves, delicately hand-painted with scenes from ballet. How could I possibly resist?! I couldn’t – and now they’re my newest favourite accessory.
Finding My Pink Tutu Dream
For this week's ballet class, I thought it was time to make my pink tutu dreams come true. Imagine my delight when I found a vintage shop bursting with pink! A magnificent pile of pink tulle and lace lay dormant waiting to be unleashed – I was like a child in a sweet shop! A whirlwind of snipping, stitching, and crafting later, I had created a custom pink tutu worthy of the grandest of ballets. I know you’re all going to adore the photos I'll be sharing soon!
I can't tell you how much I loved the experience of designing my own tutu – a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful things come from personal creativity. My Milan trip has so far been a wonderful mix of artistic expression, cultural immersion and a dash of pink tulle – a true dream come true.
* Tram Ride Treats*
Milan is a city best enjoyed by exploring its streets. Luckily for me, Milan's tram network has provided the perfect platform for discovering hidden gems. I love taking long rides on the trams, gazing out of the window and feeling the heartbeat of the city around me. The trams feel almost like rolling galleries showcasing Milan’s beautiful architecture – every corner is a postcard.
And let’s not forget the dolci! One of my absolute must-tries during my Milan adventures? Gelato, of course! Now, I’m not talking your standard, run-of-the-mill ice cream – I'm talking artisan gelato with exotic flavours, decadent toppings, and textures that melt in your mouth. There is one stall just off the Duomo which creates the most delightful concoctions – let me know if you’d like to go together!
A Dreamy Journey Awaits
For my dear Derbyshire readers, I wanted to give a special shout-out. Milan, you see, feels a little like home. This beautiful city has an undeniable charm, just like the rolling green hills of Derbyshire – I’ve often felt that those two places are deeply intertwined. If you ever get the chance to visit Milan, come find me at one of the dolci stands and tell me all about home!
As always, my dears, it's a pink tutu-tastic adventure for me here in Milan, and I'll be sharing all the latest happenings in the coming days. So stay tuned for more from my journey, and until next time, don't forget to dream big and twirl your way into your dreams!
Love and sparkle,
Emma
