Pink Tutu Milan: #1794 - A Dance through the Duomo

Buongiorno, darlings!

Emma here, reporting live from the heart of Milan, Italy, in a tutu the colour of a sunset over Lake Garda. It's a blustery Wednesday morning, but my spirit is bright - after all, I'm in one of the world's most vibrant cities, and there's no place I'd rather be!

This week in Milan is all about exploring. This vibrant city holds secrets in every cobblestone, and I'm determined to uncover them all, starting with…

A Dance of Architecture

Milan's grandeur never ceases to amaze. Today's itinerary involves a wander through the heart of the city, starting with the awe-inspiring Duomo - a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and one of Italy’s most iconic landmarks.

Stepping inside is like entering another world. A hushed hush falls as you gaze upwards at the intricate mosaic ceilings and stained-glass windows, casting dappled patterns on the ornate stonework. Every detail, from the delicate carvings to the imposing columns, is a testament to the passion and artistry of generations past. It's a feeling you have to experience to truly understand!

Now, I can't possibly talk about Milan without mentioning the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Think soaring arches of glass, high-end boutiques lining the walkways, and an undeniable feeling of elegance and style. This shopping paradise feels like a grand stage set, where every shopper becomes a participant in the city's glamorous ballet.

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without indulging in a bit of fashion. This afternoon, I’m taking a delightful detour to Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga. Prepare yourselves, my dears, for a whirlwind of luxurious boutiques, the aroma of bespoke fragrances, and a visual feast of fashion unlike anything you've ever seen. I promise, this will be a feast for your eyes - and maybe your shopping bags too! ?

A Passion for Pastel

Now, I'm known for my love of all things pink, and the vibrant pink hue of Palazzo Reale had me feeling like a little girl in a candy shop. Imagine a building the colour of a strawberry milkshake, adorned with exquisite sculptures and an aura of royal grandeur. A dream, I tell you!

And wouldn't you know it, they were showcasing a ballet exhibit featuring designs by famous fashion houses - it was just the inspiration I needed for my next dance routine! This exhibit highlighted the intersection of art and movement, and the costumes were utterly enchanting. It made me want to pirouette in front of the beautiful paintings within the palace. And yes, I may have done just that (with a few extra twirls, of course)!

But it wasn’t all about the grandeur of the city, darlings! This week, I took a break from the haute couture and ventured into Brera district - a charming neighbourhood filled with cobblestone streets, charming cafes, and artists' ateliers. I'm always searching for unique fashion finds and, honestly, a well-worn tutu just begs for a touch of vintage. The little boutiques hidden amongst the cafes offer a treasure trove of styles and unique accessories, perfect for adding a touch of personality to your look.

This afternoon, I’m hopping on the tram to Porta Romana where I’ve found a fabulous vintage shop I can't wait to explore!

A Bite of Italy

Milan is an explosion of sensory delight. The air buzzes with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and simmering pasta, and the local markets teem with colours, textures, and flavours from all over Italy. And darling, the food!

I sampled the most decadent Milanese risotto this morning, creamy and comforting with the perfect hint of saffron. Later, I’m going to be trying a plate of Polenta Con Funghi, a comforting dish of polenta with mushrooms and cheese. Just writing about it makes my stomach rumble.

Oh, and no trip to Milan is complete without enjoying a gelato in the Piazza.

Speaking of piazza… I've fallen head over heels for the Piazza dei Mercanti - a truly magnificent square. The intricate architecture, the bustling atmosphere, and the sound of laughter echoing off the buildings create an electric energy. And to add to the magical ambience, there's even a little church that looks like a tiny gingerbread house, perfectly complementing the charming energy of the square!

From Pink Tutu to Pink Shoes

This evening, I’ll be watching a ballet performance by the Teatro alla Scala. This esteemed ballet company offers a truly enchanting experience. It’s going to be an elegant evening filled with breathtaking dance and exquisite artistry - something that should not be missed when you are in the city!

The thing is, even with my ballerina life and busy schedule, there’s always room for a little fashion inspiration in Milan!

I picked up some stunning pink ballet shoes today, with delicate detailing and just the right touch of glamour. They feel like they’re custom-made for pirouettes! And who knows? Maybe my latest finds will inspire me to write my next dance routine. It seems I’m constantly finding new ways to merge my love of dance and fashion!

Milan, you are a treasure trove of artistic expression. Your energy is electric, your people are passionate, and your fashion is, well, utterly fabulous. This week, I’m dancing my way through your streets and indulging in everything that makes this city so captivating!

And my dear readers, I urge you - when you visit, grab your own pink tutu and embrace the joie de vivre of Milan!

Until next Monday, stay sparkling!

Emma xx
