Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #4 - New York, New York! 🗽💖

Hello, darlings! It's Monday, and you know what that means – it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC post! 💖

This week I'm absolutely bursting with excitement. Last week, I finally took the plunge and headed to the Big Apple! I can't believe it's been a whole seven days, it feels like a lifetime ago I was saying goodbye to my beloved Derbyshire and boarding that plane. But now, my dears, I am here! 🗽

Of course, no trip to New York would be complete without my trusty pink tutu – a classic tutu for a classic city! It was so much fun twirling my way through the streets of Manhattan, with the iconic skyscrapers towering above me. Honestly, the pink really stood out amongst the sea of grey suits and cabs – the best bit? Nobody batted an eyelid! The New Yorkers are much more accustomed to fabulousness than you might think, bless their cotton socks!

Anyway, back to the trip itself…

From London to Manhattan

It was all so exciting! I even got a special window seat for the flight – a rare treat! And you wouldn't believe the outfit I wore: a dazzling pink floral dress, a delicate lace cardigan, and of course, my pink tutu as a finishing touch. I had every intention of striking a fabulous pose in the airplane window for a cute Instagram, but those pesky safety instructions were being read at the exact time my carefully planned tutu-posing session was set to take place. Drat! Perhaps another day.

New York City airport, however, was a total breeze. I simply sailed through customs and immigration and had a quick spot of breakfast at one of the cutest cafes – fluffy blueberry pancakes and lashings of maple syrup. Perfection. 💖

Once I arrived at the hotel, I realised it was time for a little fashion emergency! As I opened my suitcase, I discovered a small disaster had unfolded during the trip – a rogue bottle of perfume had broken loose, leaving my pristine white ballet shoes dotted with sticky purple blotches. Oh, the drama! I just couldn't be seen dancing around the city in my new-found floral dress and my sullied shoes. What a tragedy! Luckily, the hotel staff were absolute darlings. They rushed me over to their best dry cleaner with promises that they’d have the shoes gleaming as bright as new by the end of the day. Phew! I wouldn't want to be seen wearing anything less than spectacular, you understand.

And speaking of spectacular, there's no other way to describe the moment I first stepped onto the New York City metro! Now, you lot know how much I love our London tube, but honestly, there's nothing quite like a jaunt on the NYC subway! It's a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds and, frankly, a good deal of mayhem. 🚇 It truly gives a whole new meaning to “transport” as you journey from place to place. One moment, you're squeezed next to a charming gentleman wearing a full fur coat with a huge red beret, the next you're rubbing shoulders with a hip-hop group in a full tracksuit! Truly unforgettable. But perhaps the biggest thrill is the actual stations themselves, many with incredible architecture. I could quite happily spend a day just gazing at the stained glass, tiled walls, and mosaics, as if it's a whole other exhibition all on its own!

And that’s what brought me to today, the 3rd of July 1995 – my second day in New York City! This afternoon I'm meeting up with a dear friend at the Ballet School of America. There's no better way to spend a Monday afternoon than to surround yourself with fellow ballet enthusiasts, taking a lovely barre class! I can't wait to chat, stretch, and pirouette.

I've already found myself feeling right at home. There is truly no place quite like New York City – the energy, the hustle and bustle, the endless array of people and places! It's truly overwhelming and exhausting, but absolutely breathtaking in its sheer volume. It’s the kind of place where your day starts before you even leave your bed – a whirlwind of exciting experiences waiting to happen at any corner. And, my darlings, you can just feel the excitement bubbling beneath the surface – just like a pot of bubbling pink frosting waiting for its crowning moment!

I am absolutely buzzing, and so I shall be ending this week's post with some top tips to make the most of your stay in this amazing city:

Emma's Guide to New York City (Pink Tutu Edition!) 💖

Here's a little peek at how I've been conquering this beautiful city! If you're coming here for a visit, make sure to:

1. Wear a Pink Tutu!

I truly believe in my mission: every day is a chance to spread the joy of the pink tutu! Honestly, you can get some really stunning tutus here. There's an amazing store near Times Square – the owner even did a whole show-stopping fashion spread in their newest pink and green ruffled creation!

It is simply my greatest hope to bring the grace and joy of a tutu to this amazing city, so wear a pink tutu on the subway, take photos by the iconic "I Love NY" sign in your finest tutu, strut down 5th Avenue with your very own personal pink tutu entourage! Go wild, girls! Let’s bring pink joy to the city that never sleeps! 💖

2. Catch a Broadway Show! 🎭

You simply cannot visit New York without seeing a show on Broadway. From the legendary “Phantom of the Opera” to the incredible “Cats”, there’s a show for every taste. I personally just saw “The Lion King" - I have to tell you, I actually teared up during the "Circle of Life." And of course, my favorite was the costume design. You’ve never seen a pride of lions like that one, trust me. The craftsmanship was incredible! And who wouldn't be touched by the performance of Rafiki, the magnificent baboon, a character who dances, acts, sings…all whilst wielding a stunning red tutu – very similar to my own in spirit! I just knew we'd be kindred spirits – in our own unique way, both spreading joy, a little pink, and of course, a touch of grace.

3. Don't Miss Out on a Ballet Performance! 🩰

Yes, this is a city filled with the best of the best when it comes to performance. And speaking of ballet, there’s an amazing ballet company performing this weekend at the Metropolitan Opera House! And, trust me, if the “Pink Tutu Queen” is recommending a ballet performance, it’s bound to be an absolute treat. I always love seeing the intricate costumes, the precision movements, the stunning choreography – all those details that make me swoon. Don’t worry, darlings, I'll be there! I am very excited to get all decked out for the occasion! 💖

4. Go Shopping in New York's Hottest Spots! 🛍️

Of course, we’ll be talking about my fashion findings soon enough. The city is absolutely overflowing with incredible vintage shops, chic boutiques, and, of course, those huge department stores that can make your head spin! I just love those shops with their elegant glass displays, those perfectly-curated window dressing ideas, those exquisite mannequins - some dressed in the latest designer gowns, others sporting daring, trendy street styles. The possibilities, the inspiration, are absolutely boundless!

Oh, the memories I've already made here! The incredible street performers on Times Square, the delicious cheesecakes from that iconic shop… It feels like I'm living in a fabulous movie – my own little Pink Tutu adventure.

Well, I think that’s enough from me today! Don’t forget to check back next week for another update from New York City! Until next Monday, keep shining bright, darling readers, and stay fabulous! 💕

Lots of love,

Emma 💖
