Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #72: Tutu-ing Around the Big Apple 🍎

Hey everyone, it’s Emma here from www.pink-tutu.com and it's Monday, which means it's time for another exciting adventure in the Big Apple! This week, I’m going to share with you all my fantastic experiences from last Monday, 21st October 1996 – it was such a fabulously pink-tastic day!

As usual, my day started bright and early with a much-needed cuppa and a slice of toast (just a tad less pink than my tutu, of course!). I headed out the door, feeling rather glamorous in my newest pink tutu – it’s a dreamy, shimmery affair with a touch of lavender that just makes me feel so…ballet! My journey to the studio was, as usual, via the iconic New York City Metro. It’s such a great way to see the city and, frankly, people can be quite the fashion show – although none of them were sporting a tutu (yet! wink wink).

My morning was a glorious whirlwind of graceful leaps, delicate pirouettes and oh, so much barre work! It was all part of the class at my favourite studio in the West Village, run by the divine Madame Rosalia. Her teachings are a blend of the traditional and the contemporary, creating an atmosphere that is both rigorous and fun. Madame always tells us, "Dance with passion, dance with grace, but most importantly, dance with joy!". That’s what I do – every step a symphony of pink joy!

After my class, I felt invigorated and ready for some fabulous shopping – a girl’s gotta have a new accessory or two for the perfect pink tutu, right? My first stop was a vintage clothing store in Greenwich Village, tucked away on a cobbled street with brightly painted buildings. This place was a treasure trove! The owner was a lovely lady with an eccentric fashion sense, a bit like me actually. She led me through a sea of colourful fabrics and sparkling jewels, and helped me pick out the perfect feather boa – a deep pink of course, with a touch of turquoise to match my mood!

With a happy heart and a newly acquired feather boa, I decided to explore a bit more. I happened to stumble upon a charming little park hidden away from the city's bustling streets. It was peaceful and tranquil – a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of New York. As I wandered through the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves, a sense of inspiration sparked within me! It reminded me of a recent visit to a local Derbyshire park, full of leafy greens and autumnal colours, the air tinged with the scent of wood smoke. Back home, it was just a few miles away, but I felt that familiar tug in my heart, the longing for home, and my beloved Derbyshire landscape, with all its natural beauty.

Later that evening, I treated myself to a delightful show. You know how I adore theatre, ballet and performance in general – anything that puts a spring in my step, so I headed over to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Tonight, I saw a breathtaking ballet performance, the dancers, all graceful and ethereal, pirouetting under the glistening spotlight. My favourite was a captivating ballerina with the most expressive movements; I felt a sense of shared joy, understanding and inspiration through the language of ballet. Watching her was like watching a story unfold, filled with intricate emotions and heartfelt gestures. There's just something about a ballet performance that captures the beauty of the world and evokes so many emotions.

You know, sometimes I wish I could dance the night away like that. But let’s face it, sometimes life calls for a good pair of comfortable flats and a hot chocolate! Luckily, my apartment in Greenwich Village is just around the corner from this cute cafe with the most heavenly hot chocolate! So, after enjoying my dance at Lincoln Center, I grabbed a warm mug and settled in with a good book.

I know what you’re thinking… Emma, it's the 21st October - there's no way you went out without some Halloween vibes. And you are so right! Even though Halloween is a few weeks away, there was already an undeniable spooky-sweetness in the air. A charming little bookstore near my apartment had transformed their storefront window into a delightful display of vintage Halloween decorations – a gothic ghost hanging beside a smiling jack-o-lantern, and bats flying in formation with the moon as their witness. It truly sparked my creativity and left me yearning for a costume, a perfect pink-tinted one, of course!

My Monday in New York was filled with artistic inspiration, fabulous fashion finds and warm, welcoming experiences. I think it's safe to say, my tutu-clad adventures in the Big Apple are in full swing.

That's all for this week! Keep a lookout for more updates next Monday - I might be in a new outfit, who knows? Perhaps it will be a vibrant new tutu, or maybe I’ll wear my gorgeous new pink and turquoise feather boa with a funky vintage dress, just like my beloved Derbyshire! But I promise one thing - it'll be pink-tastic!

Until next week, everyone! Stay sparkly, stay beautiful and, most importantly, remember to live life in a pink tutu! 💕

Love, Emma
